A system of storms blew through my city last night that brought with it winds of betwwen 90-100mph. As far as I know there were no tornadoes but from the damage it looks like a small tornado passed through!!

Roof tiles- these are EVERYWHERE! I am so glad that we have Renter's Insurance with wind-damage coverage!!

This branch is at least 6 inches in diameter and was in our front yard... It didn't come from our tree

This branch is even larger and I think that it may have come off of our tree.... This branch was across the street in our neighbor's yard.

Our very heavy cast iron and steel grill: This was tossed about 10 feet from where we had it stored!

Thankfully our insurance will cover the roof and the grill if it ends up being damaged. We haven't gotten a chance to examine either thing very closely. It really is a miracle that there wasn't more damage. Any one of those giant branches could have easily taken out a window or worse. Thankfully our van wasn't damaged either!! It was in our carport and is filthy from having debris blown at it but as far as I can tell there isn't even a scratch on it!

It looks to be more than a storm. I am happy to hear that you are OK.

Wow, looks scary!! Just like the damage storm Kyrill caused over here in Europe a couple of months ago.

Glad that you're all safe!

Ouch! The roof should be the responsibility of your landlord though....usually renters' insurance covers your property and the landlord carries homeowners' insurance that should cover structural damage. You should not be responsible for the roof or any storm damage to the house....

  All I can say for now is... Clean up, clean up, everybody every where, clean up, clean up, every body do your share :p  :D . It looks like a lot of trees lost their limbs... Too bad it's summer, looks as if there's going to be less shade :(. It's a good thing you have renters insurence, and even better that everyone's Ok!

As of about 2am there was just a t-storm watch. By morning the storm had come and gone and left all of this mess in its wake.
You're probably right about the insurance thing, ES. Our military housing just went to a civilian landlord this year so I am pretty clueless about how these things work. All I know is that my renter's policy is a good one and covers just about everything you could imagine. I'm sure the base will send out instructions for how we should proceed. The clean up crews came through hours ago to survey the damage and pull branches and debris off of roofs and roadways so they seem to have everything under control at this point.

Looks like good times. I guess maybe you can have fun visiting with all of your neighbors! "Excuse me, but is this your patio umbrella?"

Seriously, a few years back Michigan had this HUGE series of straight line winds go through. Just as damaging as a tornado but more widespread. Glad no one from your family was hurt!
