i'll be on vaction in las vegas for the first weekend/second week in october 2007. would anyone be able to suggest a condo/vacation rental away from the strip. we'll be going to the first friday block party in the arts district, seeing spamalot, abba the play and red rock canyon area, so any suggestions for other things to do will be happily recieved. and any PT-er live near there?

Nose around the non-strip hotels...usually if you are staying for over a week you can get a fairly good deal. I suggest taking at least a day to explore the strip, even though you may have absolutely no interest in gambling (which I don't lol). The casinos have a wide variety of things to do, plus the shopping is spectacular...especailly in Ceasars Palace (The cheesecake factory is a must! :D)

I live in Reno, but Ive been to vegas many times and always find something new/interesting to do each time I go.

we're getting there on friday early afternoon, going to a yet unknown hotel, then to first friday, saturday to red rock canyon, maybe dinner at stratosphere at sunset then to spamalot at 10pm. sunday gospel brunch at house of blues, the rest of the trip is unplanned (yet) and we're leaving on tuesday am. any recommendations for hotels or hotels to avoid? and things to do?

I've only been to Las Vegas once. I spent two nights at the Courtyard Marriott and then moved to Bellagio for 3 nights. The Courtyard was actually very nice, off the strip, and much less expensive.

Las Vegas is where Scott asked me to marry him! I have very fond memories of it.

If you like places like Red Rock Canyon, you'll love the Valley of Fire State Park. It's about 1 hr 15 min east of Las Vegas.

Also, see the download light show at dark.

Have fun!

i had a great time. spamalot was very funny, the seats, second row center were perfect, and worth every penny. red rock canyon is gorgeous and the drive and hiking areas were well maintained. the hotel we stayed at was harrahs, center strip was very nice, the bathroom there is larger then my bathroom here (sigh) and the room faced west, so as the sunrise happened, i got to see mountains slowly light up, very cool to a flatlander in ohio. the casinos are all different, wynns and bellagio are very elegant, casino royale was a little more blue collar, and i won money, and kept it at harrahs, so i really liked them. 2 off strip restaurants, stood out; mimis, near red rock canyon had an excellent brunch and blueberry hill, a small local chain does good pancakes and burgers. southwest got us and our luggage, there and back on time and in one piece.
today i did laundry, groceries and played with some very happy critters. and, best of all, i still have 3 more days off. :D

That really does sound like a nice time. :) I have never been to Las Vegas, but one of my friends went there for the first time on a work conference about five years ago, and has gone back on vacation three times since then. Sounds like it has something for everyone.

Take another week to get your things in order and pack the moving van!

Another few hundred miles and you can see the sun setting in the ocean!

P.S. There is no cloud of steam when it hits the water! -
