View Full Version : "New User" Policy

Karen

From now on, the first post by a newly registered user will have to be approved by one of the moderators - Paul or myself - before it actually appears on Pet Talk. We hope by making this change, we can keep the spammers from showing up. This will take a little patience from newcomers, but if you know someone who wants to register and have their post appear right away, you can contact me and "vouch" for that person, and I will put that one user's permission through immediately.

I think that's a great idea. I've seen many other boards that also do the same thing.

I also think by doing this it would cut down on those new users posting about some dreadful illness their pet has but won't go to the vet. I hate those kind of posts and most of the time they never come back to let you know if they took the pet to the vet or what happened or anything.

Kudos to you for making this great change!

I agree! Some of them were just ridiculous! Great idea, Karen - this will make the forums a lot "cleaner". :D

Great idea, Karen.

On another forum I participate in, we also have "flag" buttons to report offensive posts. Perhaps Pet Talk could institute some sort of flag button to make it easier to report threads? Just a thot ...

We already do! See the little triangle (http://www.petoftheday.com/talk/images/buttons/report.gif) to the right of each post?

Click on that - it brings you to another screen. Asks for an explanation and then you send it off to Karen. :)

I got great use out of it reporting the spammers. ;)

I think it's a great idea Karen! On one forum I'm on it's the first ten posts so who would bother to wait if they were a troll or spammer? ;) Besides, Pet Talk is worth waiting for. :D

I think this is a great idea too, especially since spam is getting so bad and it's now trolling season. There's another forum that I'm on from time to time that had this policy. I had to register and post, and before anything would show the moderators had to approve first.
Thanks for taking care of us Karen and Paul! You're doing an excellent job! ;)

**hugs**

I hate when people do that. We never know what happened to the poor animals.

If there ever were any sick animals.

I hate those posts, also. If my cat was sick I wouldn't go searching around for a pet forum to post on - I'd get to the Vet.

Hi Karen & Paul

does this new policy still apply?

we seem to have the spammers back.

Karen
08-17-2007, 04:11 PM
No, it has not changed, policy-wise. There seems to have been a server hiccup this afternoon, that's all, so everyone got "bulk-approved." I am working on deleting things now.
