View Full Version : Help me name my business...

I am going to be starting a dog grooming business out of my house. I will be finishing a room in my basement complete with a tub, dryers, grooming table etc.
I am going downtown to City Hall on Monday to apply for the permit. I have everything I need (pictures of the area, pictures of the available parking etc) except I do not have a name. I am drawing a complete blank here.
I could really really use some ideas. I thought that perhaps we could have a brainstorming session here so post anything that comes to mind, even if you think it sounds silly. I really appreciate any help I can get. :)

I really like "The Barker Shop" as Karen suggested.

Just a tip, be sure there's something doggie related in the name. I know while I was on vacation I searched in the GPS for doggie related stores. I searched for dog, paw, puppies, etc.

There's a place I go to down here that I drove by for YEARS and had no clue it was a dog place because the name is "Munchies."

I would NOT use dog in the name for this reason. Some of us with long haired cats sometimes get overwhelmed with the mats and need a pro to clip them out. Note: some states require a separate license to work on cats; maybe your state does, you don't have it, so this is not an issue for you. Just wanted to point this out.

I really like Bark and Fluff; Pawsitively Beautiful; and Groom and Go.

You want something easy if you decide to invest in freebies - lanyards, caps, keychains, for advertisement purposes.

Pampered pets

Fido's Bath House

Pet Grooming by ( and then your name) This works well because people looking for a pet groomer on the internet will type in pet grooming and there you are. A different name might not come up in the search engine as fast.

I like The Barker Shop. I think simple is good. How about The Dog Bath? I think that's cute and straight forward. It does specify dogs, but if you're not going to groom cats, then it's ok. Not all groomers will groom a cat or even bathe them, for their own personal reasons. If you're going to make it a grooming place for pets, though, I think Pawsitively Beautiful is cute, although kinda long. Maybe The Pet Bath, if you're planning on grooming more than just dogs.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. There are some really great ones. I am going to have lots to think about in the next couple days.

I am not going to groom cats. Cat grooming is something that shouldn't be done by one person alone I don't think. Where I work now we always take two people for cat grooming. I am the cat holder, and my boss either brushes or shaves them. :)

Again thanks for all the suggestions. I am going to write them all down and see what jumps out at me in the next couple days. :)

"Pawsitively" I really like...but I wonder if some folks would think that also means cats?

Congratulations!! When I used to take Bella to a groomer they also did not groom cats. I think it would be easier for a passerby looking at your sign to indicate that your shop is for dogs only. The only thing that came to mind in that regard was...

Canine Coiffures (I guess you can tell I am a poodle mom by that name. :p )

There's a trainer here who uses the name: "Plucky Puppy"

It doesn't quite relate to grooming, but it sends the message that you only do dog :)

I just got back from applying for my permit at City Hall. I wanted to thank everyone for all of their suggestions. I went with A Fur Affair which was suggested from a previous thread that Kater linked me to. Now all I have to do is wait 6-8 weeks and hope to be approved..... so nerve wracking....
