Just because we've had such scintillating discussions on kids, parents, and such lately, here's more fuel to the fire ;)

Hubby got this in his email yesterday:
Outgoing message on a school's answering machine

Hello! You've reached the automated answering service of your school. In order to assist you in connecting to the right staff member, please listen to all the options before making a selection.

To lie about why your child is absent - press 1

To make excuses as to why your child did not do his/her work - press 2

To complain about what we do - press 3

To swear at staff members - press 4

To ask why you didn't get information that was already enclosed in your newsletter and several flyers mailed to you - press 5

If you want us to raise your child - press 6

If you want to reach out, slap, or hit someone - press 7

To request another teacher, for the third time this year - press 8

To complain about bus transportation - press 9

To complain about school lunches - press 0

If you realize this is the real world and your child must be accountable and responsible for his/her own behavior, class work, homework and that is not the teachers' fault for your child's lack of effort: Hang up and have a nice day!

Someone wrapped it up great with that!

At the beginning of school one year, our food service director decided it was so hot in August that the first 4-5 weeks of school, we should serve cooler lunches as most cafeterias were not air conditioned (in those days). Sandwich menues they were called, like sloppy joes, taco's, just stuff that could be served with cold side dishes and it did include some cuts sandwiches at least once a week... But ALL meal requirements had to be met!

The parents got so upset when they heard that, that we had to stop and start doing the hot meal thing again. Our food service director told us that the parents that called admitted they depended on those hot meals at school so that THEY could feed them sandwiches for supper~! The kids enjoyed what we were serving but the parents did not approve...
