If you remember my last thread about the sheltie I met, well the hip test came in and she failed. I was really upset, but I picked myself up and relized it was just not ment to be!

Well I had a alternative dog if this one failed. His parents had excellent hips and his eyes have already passed. So were going to go meet him sometime soon. He was going to be a conformation dog, but he grew a little big. I will attach his picture.

I remember seeing pictures of Carly, gorgeus girl she was! I am 98% sure I am going to get this boy. I had all of thease names picked out for girls, now I have no idea for boy names. Any ideas? His name is Sam, but my best friend's name is Sam so that's not going to work.

Is it said like Bow? Or is it different then that, I am not good at pronouncing things. :)

Yes, it's like Bo or hair bow.

Beauregard is pronounced like bo-re-gaurd. :)

Thanks! I am also considering Sage and Aiden. I have to remember that it needs to be a short name so I can say it easy when doing agility.

Sheltie people, can you tell me more about the pattern on this fluffy dog's coat? It's so pretty! What's a conformation dog? Flatcoatlover, could you give this beauty a huge hug for me!

Shelties can come in a bunch of colors.
Blue Merles, like my future boy.
http://www.snovali.com/photos/placed/TJrwdtrim.jpg
Sable
http://www.snovali.com/photos/coowned/cammi6-10-05.jpg
Tri-Color
http://www.dogpatch.org/images/sheltie/rio.jpg
They can also come in more colors like bi-white which is black and white.

Conformation is basically breed ring, where they are showing for the best in the breed.

I'm a cat person, just visiting, and not up on all these dog things. What does it mean that a dog failed the hip test? And what happens to this dog now that you're not going to take her?

Here are my name ideas, for what they're worth. :)

Zach
Jake
Blue (too common for a blue merle, I know)
Chase
Blaze

That's it for now. :)

This means she has hip dysplasia. Not sevure or anything, but her hips are not healthy enough to do competive agility. The owner will just keep looking for a good home for her, she is not in danger of going to a shelter now that I have gotten to know the owner, she loves her and is looking out for her well being. I would have tooken her if I was looking for a dog to come in to my home for just a pet, but since I was to trial she is just not the right dog for me.

What a handsome man! When will you know about this little guy?
Are you trying to think of registered names, or just a call name?
(I thought the suggestion of Jake was good, sounds jazzy, like he looks)

I hope Sage finds a good home, sounds like his owner is looking out for his well-being.

Ohhh Sunday is only in two days!! I might be getting a little bit too excited for you, lol :D

For some reason, the name "Leo" popped into my head when I saw his picture...I also like Taz_Zoee's suggestion of Zach, and your idea of Aiden.

I was thinking about this at work for some reason but I thought you wanted a Standard poodle?
I was going to get one next year (the litter is planned), but then this whole thing started with Zoey, and my boss told me when I move out it will be hard to find renters who will allow 2 big dogs. So I told the breeders to take me off there waiting list. Doesn't mean I won't have a standard, just not at the moment.

Thanks Kristin, we have decided on the name Dakotah. :)

No pictures, I was to excited to even stop and take one :o , but he looks a lot different from the picture he is darker in color, but what a beauty! His personality is just sooooo amazing. Ok I'm done bragging!

Flatcoatluver, if the owner doesn't find a home for the dog with the problem hip - will she just stay with the owner for the rest of her life? Or, is there a good chance that someone will take her that does not plan to have her do agility competitions. Will she still be able to take walks and do regular, everyday activities?

Flatcoatluver
06-10-2007, 07:49 PM
Yes she will be able to be a normal dog, do normal activitys. Agility is hard on the joints, and for a dog with HD it just doesn't mix well.

I thought of the name Dakota (without an h) but thought you were wanting shorter names. That's why all the ones I suggested were one syllable. :)
But I do love the name Dakotah, especially with the h. :p

I can't believe you didn't take pictures!! Now you're killing us making us wait. ;) And that's so cool that you get to pick him up on your birthday. :D :D

Dakotah is a nice name, but not exactly short like you were asking for. :p You'll have to think of nickname to call him on the agility course. :p

Man, the 17th is toooo far away! I want more pictures NOW. ;)

Flatcoatluver
06-11-2007, 11:15 AM
Yeah, my mom loves that name to much, so really she was the one that named him. So his name is Dakotah Blue, nickname is Kota. I am not so excited about this weekend though, trying not to get my hopes up.

Somehow I missed everything going on with Zoey. I am sorry to hear about that, Bre. I had the same heartbreak with Nova although she was much younger and we hadn't started competing in agility yet, just training. I hope all goes well with the new dog, he is gorgeous!

Thanks! We were not planning on getting another dog at all. Until Zoey ended up with HD and sponysplasia. My parents said our house is full with animals, they said no more dogs untill you and Zoey move out. Well then when we found out about Zoey, that all changed.

He's not home yet. :( Kind of glad because I was busy working all week.
The breeder is in Montana, and the husband works night shifts so it's hard for him to go to hip testing. So who knows how long we are waiting. :( Hopefully next week we will have him.
