View Full Version : Thursday #214- Once in a Blue Moon!

RICHARD

Well I think it's appropriate to celebrate that celestial rarity known as a BLUE MOON!

I think that everything should be "blue" or "moon" related this week.

So how's about we start with a Blue Hawaii and Pink Floyd----Dark Side of the Moon, maybe?

So wtihout any further ado!

Well, I'm still feeling "blue" because I'm still sick. Does that count?

How about some catnip tea for the kids and regular tea with honey and lemon for me? :D

Um, Mario, no need to "moon" me. I feel bad enough without seeing that!

Well I'm only feeling blue because MOMO is sick. Richard, get that woman some real spirit to put in her tea!! That will blow all the germs away guaranteed!!!

Is Blue Hawaii a real drink?? I guess I could google it but only have a minute or two on line here then it's back to work. I just hate sharing an office now. Everyone knows what everyone is doing....or maybe that's the point!!

One double of something for me please Richard.

Later gators.

Maybe later... if I have one of these right now I will be in big trouble...

BLUE HAWAI'I COCKTAIL from about.com
Harry Yee was a bartender at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Resort and Spa when in 1957 he was asked by a representative of Bols to create a new drink using the company's new Blue Curacao liqueur. The Blue Hawaii was born. There are numerous variations of this recipe, many using Creme de Coconut, but this is the authentic recipe.
INGREDIENTS:
3/4 oz. Light Rum
3/4 oz. Vodka
1/2 oz. Blue Caracao
3 oz. Pineapple Juice
1 oz. Sweet & Sour Mix
PREPARATION:
Combine all ingredients and mix well. If using ice, mix the ingredients in a blender. Serve in a tall glass. Garnish with a slice of pineapple and a cherry.

Hey, isn't there a beer called Blue Moon?

Gini was thinking of the Frank Sinatra version of "Blue Moon" last week but all I could think of was the version by the mice in the movie "Babe" Then I started remembering the Rock & Roll version by The Marcels back in the 60's "ring-a-ding a-ding-a-dong-dang... Blue Moon" :o  What ever else we do put something on the jukebox before I drive everyone NUTZ!!! I'll pour the tea, I'll get the muffins out of the oven... just put something else on the music box

"Dark side of the Moon"... what a brilliant idea!! It's one my favourites. A Blue Hawaii sounds good too, and it's looks so pretty. :)

MOFF, take the chance for this once and pour some spirits into your drink, that'll make you feel a lot better, and it'll taste great. ;)

Slick, it's just too bad that you have to share an office, but I could suggest a few things to get rid of the others. :D

Karen, I think the first place we'll see blueberries will be in Sweden.

Cheers everyone... hope my tongue won't go blue.

Oh CM, that drink sounds absolutely wonderful. Richard, I'll take one of them for the road please. Will it give me a blue tongue?

Twisted Sister, how about you and me setting up the Karaoke machine and we can sing Blue Moon. Mario and do the dang-a-dang part. :)

Oh stop mooning everyone Mario.

I always loved that song. :)

Artist: Sha-Na-Na
Song: Blue Moon Lyrics

Blue moon, you saw me standing alone
Without a dream in my heart, without a love of my own
Blue moon, you knew just what I was there for
You heard me saying a prayer for someone
I really could care for
And then suddenly appeared before me,
the only one my arms could ever hold
I heard somebody whisper 'please adore me'
But when I looked, that moon had turned to gold -
oh oh oh Blue moon, now I'm no longer alone
Without a dream in my heart, without a love of my own
Without a love of my own (Blue moon)

I was driving over here to the bar - and before I could turn the corner I could hear the racket!

Lordy you guys are loud.

Ya know, I have always had a policy that I will NEVER drink anything blue - in a cocktail. Now blueberry tea is different stuff. But I have always thought tidy-bowl in a drink was disgusting.

Richard - come on out from behind the bar - we won't make any more "new" paper jokes about you - honest (snicker, snicker, snicker)

DONE!

LB,

Here's a Don Henley song!

Talking to the moon...

When the hot September sun down in Texas
Sucked the streams bone dry
Turned to roads to dust
In the sleepy little towns down in Texas,
the shades are all pulled down;
the streets are all rolled up.
And the only thing that breaks the silence
Are the trucks a-passin' by
Late at night on the front porch swing
You can hear their mournful sigh
And the lonesome whippoorwill cries to the stars above
He was callin' out for his lady love
She's been gone so long

I was just talkin' to the moon
Hopin' someday soon that I'd be over
The memory of you-too hard to hold

And the wind across the plains
Is all that now remains
And the night shakes loose the names
But they never quite go back the way they came

So, good-bye rodeo
It's a long, funny way for men to go
Never change
Never change at all

I was just talkin' to the moon
Hopin' someday soon that I'd be over
The memory of you- too hard to hold on

I was just talkin' to the moon
Hopin' someday soon that I'd be over the
Memory of you

Done!

LH,

Disappearing Bailey's?

All you want, now that you don't have to drive!
DONE!

Liz,
I'll do the bass if you sing...

Karen, I have to share that our Trader Joe's has a delicious ice cream.

It only comes in four flavors - coffee - chocolate - french vanilla and BLUEBERRY.

I bought the blueberry and I discovered that it disappeared so rapidly I knew that I hadn't better buy any more or I would look like two scoops!

Momo, so glad that you are feeling better and I'll say a silent prayer for your car. May she rest in peace until revived again. When the time comes, we should celebrate. "She has risen!" LOL

My BLUE story.

Day before yesterday I saw and blue jay atacking a crow in the back yard.
Since I am not fond of crows I laughed and went about my business.

Later I thought about it and found the problem I have been having with sleep recently

For the last three nights that Effing Jay sings from about 12 midnight to ?????, I am sooooooo tired....it was kinda nice the first night...

He is nesting in a tree about 3-4 houses down.....(as I type this I can hear him....) So, IF I CAN HEAR HIM, I wonder what the people under the tree are thinking!

 :D

God, I wanted a sign to remind me of the "Thrusday Blue Light Special" but not at the expense of my sleep!

Laughing so hard I'm crying! Thanks, RH! Barkeep, as long as I've dropped by - could I please have iced tea with lemon. In a blue glass would be groovy. Richard, I'll gladly take your noisy blue jay if you'll accept my choir of cicadas in return. They start performing every morning around 4 AM.

There was a question in the morning paper in the "Metro" section just today asking what kind of bird wakes up in the middle of night and sings instead of eats like every other sane creature upon waking?" Now I have an answer BLUE JAYS. We have plenty of them. The worst are the cat birds! They dive bomb everything, people, cats, dogs....

"How to boil an egg"... ah yes, I remember it well :D

Stop the presses!!!!!!!!!

I was taking a cab back to the office from the hotel downtown when all hell broke loose. It was a very busy part of downtown. First there was one cop on the motobike, then two more, then more, then more....sirens were blaring and all traffic came to dead stop. We figured that there must have been a bad accident or something when out of the blue comes this limo surrounded by a motorcade and it drove right past the cab in the opposite directlon. I looked inside but of course you can't see anything.

I was an arm's length away from a celebertee and near as I can figure it was either Sting who performed in town last night (maybe tonight too but not sure) or AAAUUUUUUNNNNOOOLD who is also in town and met with the Vancouver Mayor today about greenhouse gas emissions.

**sigh** That's about as close to a celebertee as I'll ever get. Unless I make another trip down to LA and cruise the strip..... ;)

One double BM for the road please as I'm heading home now Have a good night everyone. :)

My work parking is underground. I drive up to the gate, it opened and what did I see in the laneway??? More cops. Lots and lots of cops. There was yellow tape along the driveway right across the lane from my work. Seems earlier today a dead body was found in a car in that parking lot.

Oh yeah, life in the big city. Who wants to visit???

G'day All,
Ok so a 'Blue Moon' is called after the second full moon of a month. Sooo I guess that means I should probably have two of those 'Blue Moon' cocktails. In accordance with the second sighting of our celestial piece of rock. As opposed to actually having 'once in a blue moon', where clearly the architect of this beverage was clearly advocating a celebration of two, well maybe a few. (Personally I can't see that having just two of these will in any way curb a desire to have more :D ) I hope that I was at least a little clear. I did try to be consise, and it does happen. Once in a blue moon would be my guess.
Cheers everyone. :D

Well, yes, actually it is friday night. :D Of course being that marvellous time of the week, and actually having no work to do tonight, I saw it as just cause to 'knock the top of a couple' :D But a barby? It's 5deg C outside. The fires on and it's bangers & mash, with a cuddle up to a cheeky bottle of muscat. :D

:D I have tried haggis, but I'm afraid I'm no braveheart when it comes to eating it. Now a heart stew I can enjoy, liver with a thick bacon & onion gravy, is just to die for, but haggis no. Brains I just can't seem to get around, & kidney is definitely out. Tripe is just off the menu, and if I can just mention again that haggis, is I'm afraid out. Hey guys, I have the perfect band to listen to.The Moody Blues, one year at a concert one of the local ice cream places was serving Moody Blues ice cream at the concert, but for the life of me I can't remember which company it was. Who's up for some "Nights in White Satin"?

Nights in white satin never reaching the end
Letters I've written never meaning to send
Beauty I'd always missed with these eyes before
Just what the truth is I can't say any more
Cause I love you
Yes I love you
Oh how I love you
Gazing at pepple some hand in hand
Just what I'm going through they can't understand
Some try to tell me thoughts they cannot defend
Just what you want to be you'll be in the end
And I love you
Yes I love you
Oh how I love you, oh

Breathe deep the gathering gloom,
Watch lights fade from every room.
Bedsitter people look back and lament,
Another day's useless energy spent.
Impassioned lovers wrestle as one,
Lonely man cries for love and has none.
New mother picks up and suckles her son,
Senior citizens wish they were young.

Cold hearted orb that rules the night,
Removes the colours from our sight.
Red is grey and yellow white,
But we decide which is right.
And which is an illusion?

KK, Allegheny moon was a popular song in the mid 1950s and was a very big hit for Patti Page. The reason I remember it is because it was named after one of the three rivers in Pittsburgh. I live a half a mile fronm the Allegheny river!

Yeah, I know, I still use the word "album" too. My Dad introduced me to the Moody Blues, that and Pink Floyd and Led Zepplin were what I listened to growing up. My Dad actually camped out for tickets to take me and my brother and sister to see Pink Floyd during their "Momentary Lapse of Reason" tour and I took him to see them during Division Bell it was really cool. And of course, we've seen Moody Blues together.

Aww, "Nights in white satin" can almost make me cry - it's just such a ??? song!

Pink Floyd... I was a fan immediately when I first heard them, I think it was "The piper at the gates of dawn", and I was probably 17. Oh, I wish I had known John back then, they came to visit in his Studio to have their pictures taken - when Syd Barrett was with them.

I still have the negatives, and also some old prints. Perhaps I'll scan them in if anyone is interested in seeing them.

Anyway, Fister has alreaday got used to the missing scaffold, and I have a much better view. :)

Stop the presses!!!!!!!!!

Unless I make another trip down to LA and cruise the strip..... ;)

Oh llolololol,

I laughed!

Hey Richard I'll have one of those experimental mojitos, I can't say that I have personally had experience with those but my uncle had a reel-to-reel when I was growing up. I actually saw it and everything.

Is there any of that blueberry cake left I'm feeling a bit peckish. :D

Hi, anybody still here? As long as it's ok to be better late than never, I'll add our "Blue Moon" notes. we were driving to our new home in Rhode Island the night of the full blue Moon. Lots of songs like Blue Moon of Kentucky on the radio. Very auspicious, as Star's registered name is Blue Moon Star! I figure it's gotta be a good "sign" for our future adventures on the East coast. Any chance there's any of that blueberry tea left?

Has anyone caught the moonrise in the last few days?

Very nice!It actually scared me the other night, right before leaving Ohio. The full moon was RED, like blood-stained red. Really creeped me out. I think it was because we had a whopper of a thunderstorm later that night.
