Does anyone know what the natural prey for a dog is? I am thinking about getting another pet.

What kind of pet were you thinking of getting? I think it depends on the dog's prey drive. :)

have you had a rabbit before? I'd research them or ask Karen about them because she has a bunny. :) and she probably could answer any questions you may have. what kind of bird were you thinking of getting?

Some dogs have a strong prey drive, some haven't a clue that anything is prey. My dear, sweet but kinda dumb Gracie used to race the wild bunnies, completely unaware that they thought their lives were in danger. My Sheba, though, killed everything nonhuman or canine that she could catch.

Watch your dog around other smaller animals, and see how he or she reacts. A bird would be safer, as it will usually be out of reach of a pug. Some dogs are fine with bunnies, some see it as a new toy to be killed. You'd have to be very cautious with the introduction, and never leave them alone unsupervised if there is any question at all. And remember, a rabbit can literally be frightened to death, so just because it is in a cage doesn't mean it will be safe if a dog decides it is lunch.
