My roommates 12 week old basset hound named Trooper is so wound up. We were told by a few people that this is unordinary for basset hounds. They said that this particalar breed is lazy. Trooper is wild, does anyone elser think this is odd? I have never come in contact with the brred before now.

My husband had a basset/rott mix, and he was pretty hyper. I think it is just a myth that they are lazy. Is he howling because he's lonesome, maybe? Is it all the time or what? They could try getting a wind up clock that ticks and put it in a thick sock, or stuff it in a pillow or something for him. That worked well with a doberman puppy I had years ago.

First thing to keep in mind is that Trooper is only 12 weeks old and has a lot of puppy left and pups of any breed tend to be pretty hyper. When does he howl?? Could it be separation anxiety?? Is he hungry?? Does he have to go out?? It could be any number of things.

Good luck and let us know how things progress.

I think that ya'll have hit the nail on the head with his being lonely. He howls thorughout the day, but it is worst at night. His mommy (my roommate) works until 11:00 at night and then goes out to a bar or club. I cannot keep him in my room because
1. He eats my dogs food which is expensive special science diet for Tango's allergies. 2. He seems to like to use the restroom in my room. 3. I get woke up when his mommy comes home and comes in there to get him.
I had thought that it may have something to do with him missing his mommy, I guess I am out of luck, there is not much that I can do about her socail behavior.
