Thought I'd share some photos of a recent zoo visit. The zoo of Hannover is very beautiful and has large, natural-looking environments for most of the animals, and you don't see many cages. The have niced themes, like "Sambesi" (African section), and the "Jungle Palace" (for the elephants). Very beautiful and a paradise for photographers. And rottie girl Emma was with us and had a blast!

Hope you enjoy my shots:

Oh what wonderful pictures! Kirsten you are sooo good!

Most zoos in Germany accept dogs. I've wondered about this. But on the other hand why should a dog make the animals more nervous than all these humans around?
I suppose they know exactly who is in and who is out.

I suppose they know exactly who is in and who is out.

Oh yes, they certainly know!!! Some animals seemed have some fun with Emma, they seemed to provoke her and were like "neener neener neener - you cannot catch me, I'm behind glas..." :D

Wow, Kirsten, these are fantastic! I really like the very first one of Emma and the meerkat. Between Timon in "The Lion King" and Meerkat Manor it seems like meerkats are just really popular creatures.

They are very excellent photos Kirsten.
You should be getting a portfolio of your works together, and submit them to some advertising companies or the like. I have seen people make money out of this kind of stuff, and those people have not even near the talent that you have.

Oh yes. I also consider it as a good thing, but I was just surprised, I've never seen it before.
Of course it can always be a problem with some owners who do not control their dogs, if there are free birds, for instance. I have been to several zoos where some of the animals were "free".

Kirsten, I love all your new pictures too! The bigs cats, sorry, lions are cute :)

Why are the signs in a German Zoo in English? Just curious......

Because many animals are from English speaking countries (of course the other have French, Kisuaheli ...you name it.... signs) :p

They're not all in English, the "sea food" one you saw of the pictures is only deco stuff. It's part of the African section "Sambesi", you can see it when you take one of the boats which lead you through a beautiful African landscape, and you can also see many animals from there: giraffes, zebras, hippos, rhinos and many waterbirds. It's just beautiful and very peaceful, especially in the evening when most of the visitors have gone.

In the "jungle palace", which is supposed to look like a ruin of an ancient maharaja palace in India that is now claimed back by nature (elephants, tiger etc.) you can also see some English signs ("Beware of Tiger!" LOL). Guess this is to make that place look more authentic. :)

That's true, actually. In Hannover, there are also many birds running free, such as ducks, peacocks, turkeys, hens etc. Emma was VERY interested in the ducks, and I'm sure she would have loved to catch one. But of course she was walking on a leash, and Reinhold was extra careful when birds were around.

BTW, for some reason, Emma was very annoyed by the cheetah. Everytime she passed her, Emma barked angrily and jumped against the glass panel. The cheetah, however, seemed to know that Emma couldn't reach her, and ignored her completely. :)
