Can cats be allergic to catnip?

I put some nip down for the cats. Willy took a big sniff, sneezed a couple of times and then started gagging. I picked him up and took him away from the nip and now he's fine.

Halo, Cammie and Willow enjoyed the nip without any problems.

Can cats be allergic to nip -- or some filler in the nip, maybe?

That Would Be Rare For A Cat To Be Allergic To Cat Nip But I Would Not Rule Out The Possibility.
My Cats All Sneeze When They Sniff The Nip But None Of Them Have Gagged So Far

Maybe he just inhaled too deeply? You know, like we do with a powdered sugar donut! So he got some caught in his throat.

Silly guy!

Freedom, you took the words right out of my mouth. He could have inhaled to hard and got some in his throat so it made him cough. Up the nose...sneeze, sneeze, down the throat, cough, cough...

I agree, sounds like he just inhaled too deeply.

Thanks guys. That must be the case. He's fine now. He went back for more catnip without any problems at all.

Phew! Glad to hear you are not allergic to catnip after all Willy! That would have been a tragedy. :D
