I got a call from Comcast (my cable company) saying that I needed to schedule an appointment to have a tech come over and switch my service over from leased lines to Comcast's own network. So I sorted out with my job when I could manage to be home, called Comcast back, and explained to 6 different people the content of the call. They'd never heard of it. I figure it was probably burglars.

Did you think a phone call from such a big company was suspicious? Most
large companies communicate by mail.

Did you think a phone call from such a big company was suspicious? Most large companies communicate by mail.I definitely should have thought of that. But the "From" readout on my phone read "Comcast," so it didn't even occur to me that they might have hacked it somehow. Anyway, I told the police and the newspaper.

That's pretty scarey, I'm glad you posted about it. A reminder to all of us, people are not always who they seem to be.

Yep. Glad they didn't "get" you (and your little dog too). Always make sure you call the company back yourself. Whenever they call, you tell them you'll call them back. That way you know you've called their number and are talking to somebody in their building. And if anybody shows up at the door don't open it unless you've been informed that a rep is coming.
