Looks like a movie might be in the works finnally:

Has a press release about it. It is from May 2006 but I am just learning about it. Here is another site that talks about it:

Rumour has it on the Anne McCaffrey forum that the book they are making into a movie will be Dragonsdawn. When the people traveled form Earth to Pern and created the dragons. Makes sense really to make that movie first. Would help people who have never read the books to understand what it is all about.

If you click on News and read down a few sentences you will see where it says they optioned for Dragon Riders of Pern. Some are saying it could be out as early as 2008. Others are saying as late as 2009. Either way it looks like it is now in the works. And if they do as good or better a job on it as the producers of Eragon(Which I finnally got to see and totally loved) the movie will be a HUGE hit. Anyway just wanted to let all the pern lovers out there know the news I just learned.
