A Wal Mart in South Carolina did not pull the product from their shelves!!!!

A woman went in and kept buying it to throw it away and save animals. She spent over $1,000 before WalMart asked her to leave(!) and had employees start pulling the product off the shelves.

I just heard about this from news on the internet. According to the article, this particular type of poison isn't available in the US but it has been used in controlled amounts to treat cancer. So far nobody has a clue as to how and why it got into the food. As of now there's no talk of an investigation but somebody needs to get to the bottom of this! When I was at Risoldi's (friendly neighborhood grocery store) earlier this week there wasn't a can or pouch of pet food to be had. At my office, those of us owned by pets talked about nothing else. Sadly, one of my co-workers told us her kitty died in late November. Margaret is beside herself because her kitty May-May was fed one of the brands on the recall list.

RIP sweet May-May and all the other pets who moved on to the RB because of this :( :( :(

Rat poison sounds like a deliberate attempt by someone in the company who hates Dogs and Cats. It doesnt sound as though that was something in the formula that was bad from the start.
I have read many rumors the saddest of which that the company knew that the food was bad but let it go out anyways hoping people would just think thier Pets had gotten ill naturally.

The wheat was imported from China--where this particular type of rat poison is still perfectly legal. That's likely where it came from in the foods.

The recall list has been expanded. Now includes aLL 95 brands made by Menu Foods. This per the Providence Journal on Saturday morning.

You need to check it again for the foods in your closet and cupboard.

I have bought a lot of the Friskie Sea Food Pouches and dont have anything else that might be bad for the Found Cats.
I am going to start making more of thier meals some lean ground Chicken and Turkey.
Thats safer and they will love it.

Do you have a link to the story? It's important if we find stories to provide links.
CNN is saying "they are expanding recall" but dont have any additional information. This was on one of their news brief sections of t.v.

Any idea if it's all wet food? or is dry food now in the mix?

Hi Craftlady, There's a link on the other post captioned, More food added. All I've heard so far is the problem is only with wet food and pouches, dry food is supposedly not affected. Boy do I hope they're right about that!!!!!

Hi Craft Lady - sorry, I guess I should have put my full post here as well. I started a new thread so as to catch people's eye of the update. Here it is:

AND they have expanded the recall list, so you need to check the list again for the foods in your cupboards and closets.

Go here:

http://www.menufoods.com/recall/

The top listings have NOT been updated. The lower listings, specific for cat and for dog, HAVE BEEN UPDATED AS OF MARCH 23, 2007. Use those links.

They have added a few brands, AND for the brands already on there, they have added more stamp dates.
