This will be the official Xena update thread. If you are interested in her progress, visit this thread often. I will be posting all updates and pictures in this thread, so you might have to look around the pages for updates and such.

Today was day 5 I believe. I think she's going into heat soon. No, she isn't spayed. I talked to her owner tonight and she did mention that she needs to get her spayed (ya think?).

Her and Travis act like old chums. The way they act around eachother now, you'd think that they have lived together their whole lives.

Something pretty amazing (to me) happened today. Travis is usually VERY protective of his knuckle bones, food, treats, water, etc. He'll let me take food away from him and stuff but he refuses to let other dogs near his food. (Except for Katy, he knows she's the Alpha dog). Today, I very unintelligently forgot to lock his knuckle bones up in the dog run before letting them loose in the backyard. Next thing I know, Xena has picked one of the bones up and trotted off with it. I see Travis trotting up to her and think "oh great, this could be a problem". Much to my surprise, he simply sniffed her and walked away. He came back a few seconds later and stood there with his head cocked as if saying "Whatcha doin there? " He did not mind at all that she had his bone. Xena didn't growl when Travis approached her either. These two actually SHARE things with eachother. First it was the water dish, now bones. They are really amazing me. (I shouldn't be surprised, after all they are GSDs ;P )

Im not sure if she will get spayed. Her owner is the type to say that she needs to do something but then never ends up doing it.

Hmmmm, that doesn't sound good :( I wouldn't want her pregnant unexpectedly for you, travis_gsd27. Our veterinarian told me cats who will not be bred do better from a health standpoint if they are spayed. I wonder if that's also true of dogs? If it is, could you give Xena's owner the name of a free or low-cost clinic? I love seeing Xena and Travis! I'll be following the X-File updates, too. Good Luck! Great Work!

Spaying/Neutering reduces the risk of cancerin those particular parts. So you are correct on that one ;)

Things are still going great. Had a little tustle over the knuckle bone. Nothing serious. It was stopped before anything happened. Yes, once again I was forgetful and didn't put the bones up. I take full blame for that. As soon as the bones were out of sight they were back to their old selves. Running around and playing.

Yes, Travis and Xena look like Bestfriends all ready, from the moment I saw Xena I knew they would be great friends. She is such a happy smiling girl and full of fun! I love every picture, can't wait to see more sometime!:D

Xena's new approach to playing (if you haven't noticed by the pictures) is stalking. She'll crouch down and wait for the right time to pounce. Its very cute. :)

She is so beautiful. I wish I had pix of our old guy, Bigfoote, to show you how much alike they look.
That's great that she met Miles and Katie and everything went okay.
You are doing such a good thing for this girl.
Maybe the owner just doesn't have "time" to take her to the vet or clinic. That's sad. :(

It is a BEAUTIFUL day out so I will be picking Xena up shortly. There is plenty of sunshine which means I'll be able to get some nice pictures.

Today was great. I filled up the kiddy pool for the dogs. Xena was too afraid to get in, but Travis enjoyed it. I brought the two little dogs out. And the four of them peacefully coexisted in the backyard ;) I also got some group shots that you can see in my other thread.
Slight squabble between Katy and Xena. Mainly from Katy, she's a grouchy old lady. Quick input from Mom and both girls stopped right away.
