;D
Went this morning to purchase my first SLR camera. I got the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi/400 D.

I've been playing with it a bit but it's certainly going to take some time getting used to it. Ritz camera offers free classes, so after I play with it for a few weeks or so on my own, I'll check those out.

Anywho, here's some snapshots I've taken so far.

Gorgeous!! I'm so excited for future photoshoots! (btw, is an SLR a film camera or is yours a digital SLR?)

Are you shooting in RAW by any chance? I've been shooting Digital SLR's for about four years now and have just discovered RAW, and I love it!

Thanks everyone!

Sophie, It's a DSLR. ;)

Caph, I haven't yet. I am saving up for a larger memory card (and a better lense.) With RAW images I'd only be able to take 1 picture at a time. :p

which camera is it? lol, I can take about 150 on my 2gig card...and then I have two other 1gigs...I've been collecting...I have a 20d...and my next goal is a wide lense.

Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi/400 D. It takes Compact Flash I or II - Same cards at my A80, but my A80 was able to take around 400 on the same card. :p

Wonderful pics as usual Kay.

What do you do with your old cameras? Ours has something wrong with it, so I'd love to buy it off of you. Seriously! Please let me know.

I sold my PowerShot A80 to my dad and I'll be keeping my S2 IS. The DSLR doesn't have video, so I'll be keeping it for that and the zoom. :) You can find the S2 IS for under $300 though, which is really cheap considering I spent close to $500 when I bought mine.

I was wondering if you had the XTi or the XT. Just the lens that came with it, couldn't afford another lens! I did buy an extra battery, though.

Now tell me - how do you get such great action shots? Do you use a different lens for action shots?

I was wondering if you had the XTi or the XT.
I have both :p I bought the XT last June and a few months later the XTi came out. My mom felt bad because she told me it'd probably be longer than that and it was a huge investment for me, so my parents got me the XTi for Christmas :D I was so shocked!

Yeah, I have to use a different lens. I couldn't get good action shots with the kit lens, it's mostly good for still shots. I shoot in sports mode as well, so if you want to play around with that you may be able to get some to come out. I was never happy with my action shots until I got the other lens, though.

Yeah, I was told the shutter speed is probably too fast for the kit lens. I can't wait to save enough for another! Which lens do you have?

Congratulations on the new camera Kay! I knew you'd be getting an SLR soon. Looking forward to more pictures!

The lens can really make the difference so always get the best lens you can afford. Of course this is quite an expensive hobby :). I have a canon 28-135mm lens with image stabilizer. It's a good general lens for wide angle or zoom. I'll be sticking with that lens til I feel I have learned enough about photograpy to spend more. It does work good with action shots on the sports setting. I'm still trying to master the manual settings even after a photography class at a local school.

That's cool, Kay! Congrats on the new camera! :)

I have the Digital Rebel XTi as well, and would be curious to get/share pointers with others who have these cameras. I know they have quite the potential to shoot some wicked cool shots, so I'd really like to learn more about the manual settings. I've really only played with the pre-set functions so far. I'm just using the lens it came with, but would like to eventually get another lends or two. What would be a good investment moving forward in terms of what lenses to buy for these cameras?
