Man's best friend is fast becoming a sought-after target for thieves, with so-called dognappings up by almost 75% in London alone last year. Owners have been left fretting, and say the police's response doesn't help.

I am stunned that the person in that news article couldn't get the police to assist!

I guess this means tattoes, microchips, etc. are more and more important to prove that dog is really YOURS!

Since the police don't consider this that much of an emergency, maybe
they should set up a website to have volunteers join together to search
for missing dogs. The email alert is a good idea, but that and a website to
post updates on searches, would be a big help too, I would think.

Liz, Ms Heyes who owned Hermes did just that with Doglost. There is also an excellent site called Missing Pet Bureau.

What a nightmare for that couple! I am glad they were finally able to get their dog back. There is a woman not far from where I live whose dog was stolen out of her yard several years ago. Every now and then I will see an ad in the paper, written by her, and asking for his return no questions asked. She just does not give up hope. I hope no one ever has their eye on your handsome Bob!
