Thanks for being a secretary, Indra. :) I'm so sorry to hear Lut is in pain, I wish she could get an appointment sooner. The waiting almost sounds unbearable. :(

Lut, does it help if you elevate your leg slightly? In any case, I hope you'll be without pain soon, and not having to go through more of this.

Take care!!

They really should be giving you something for the pain.Even something light to get you to be able to bear this horrible pain.Pick up the phone and call the Doctor and complain, complain, complain. They won't budge unless you do.
10 days can seem a life time if your in unbearable pain.
Take it from someone who knows.I've been there;too much of my life.
I hope your operation makes a huge difference in your life for the better.
Prayers and positive thoughts going your way from all of us Dear Lut.

Hi Indra

Thanks for helping Mum keep in touch with us!!

I agree with catfamily - if the pain is that bad then you should be given some sort of pain relief. Tell those doctors to sort themselves out or there will be a bus load of PTers on their way to Belgium

Hugs and kisses to you all

Lut, I have been in horriable pain that taking double the pain killers the doctor gave me did not touch, the only relief I got was to take a Benyadril (SP?)(allergy meds) and that was the only way I could get ANY sleep... Those things just knock me OUT! I got 2 hours of sleep a day when I took those.

I can not believe that in todays world, someone has to suffer with pain and I hate that you are suffering so much. There are so many people out there that abuse drugs that it makes it extreemly hard on the people that really need them and it has been proven that people do not get addicted to drugs when they are in horriable pain.... Of coarse they discovered that AFTER my situation happened. That was the one and only time I ever took a RX pain medicine and they did me no good. Ask him to change your pain medicine until you find one that will work. One pain medicine does not work on everyone. Keep changing until you find one that works.

I hope your doctor wakes up and gives you something that will give you some relief.. You shouldn't have to suffer in todays world!

Dear sweet Lut:
Although I've not replied until now, you have always been on my mind and in my prayers. It grieves me to see you in such pain and I can't believe that you have to wait so long for an operation. Trust me, drugs are good ;) and I'm glad the doctor has given you that pain patch. As someone recently told me, in this day and age there is no reason to be in pain. Use all the patches you need.

Indra: what a wonderful daughter you are and I'm sure the rest of the family is just as supportive. Bless you all (skin and fur) for looking after our very dear friend. I know it's hard to see your Mom is such pain. All you can do is be there for her and make sure she gets all she needs......I know you are already doing that.

I'm glad the doctor prescribed the morphine patches, I use them and let me tell you....I don't think I could make it through a day without them! What a blessing! As I was reading all this, my thoughts were to tell you about them, then I read she got them :D Yeah!

Indra-
Try to keep you mom involved in doing something - even if it is with conversation (talk about anything BUT her problems) or if she can do some reading or work with her hands. I find that if I have something to do there is less time to think about the pain.

;) also a glass of wine helps a LOT!! I know what your thinking, don't mix Rx with alchol, but my doctor claims that one glass of wine a day will not hurt me, and let me tell you....I look forward to my glass of wine!!! It just relaxes my mind & body and helps me sleep, too!

Stay strong for your mom, she is going to need it!!

All our thoughts are headed your way!!!

I am a bit puzzled - is her leg hurting because of the hernia? Or is it something else they will try to fix?

HUGS!

Her leg is hurting because of the hernia: a nerve gets pinched all the time
The surgery should be taking away the hernia, so the pain in her leg should be gone instantly! She is fearing the moment after surgery though when the surgeon will be coming to her and ask to move her toes, leg, knees...

Catty1
02-24-2007, 10:09 AM
Well...the moment after surgery, she will hopefully still be on major painkillers...I hope all goes well!

I pray that it is just a few days til your Mom is out of pain.

Hi Lut! I really hope and pray that the pain meds are helping to ease your discomfort. I know it's easy for us to say but try not to be scared about the surgery or your recovery afterwards. Medical technology has come so far in recent years that what was once a major procedure is relatively common. Post-op treatment has also changed much for the better. About 5 years ago my Mom had surgery to remove a brain tumor that her neurosurgeon said was about the size of a tennis ball. When Soncat & I went to see her some 24 hours after surgery, Mom was sitting up in a chair waiting for lunch. Within 48 hours, the nurses were helping her walk around in the hall. Not to worry, Mom's surgery angels promised to be with you during your procedure. You remain in my thoughts and prayers.

The surgery should be taking away the hernia, so the pain in her leg should be gone instantly! She is fearing the moment after surgery though when the surgeon will be coming to her and ask to move her toes, leg, knees...

After my surgery (acoustic neuroma), the first questions they asked were if I knew what year it was, where I was, who the president was ... so to that one, I replied "Do you want to know who the President is, or who I *wish* it was ..." and the nurse laughed and said "You're okay!"

So tell Lut to study up ...

and she's still in our prayers, of course!
