This is a spinoff of "Which American Accent do you have?" I'd like to know what you call your bubbly beverage. Please post if your answer isn't listed!

We grew up calling it "tonic." Everyone in the area did - family, frineds, even the aisle labels in the grocery said "tonic." Then in my 20's I moved to DC for school and no one had a clue what I was talking about. So I called it soda. I kept up with soda unti l6 years ago when Dad moved in with me. He stills calls it tonic, so I am back and forth now.

It's coke, no matter what the drink actually is. The caffeinated drink is a coke, and then after it's known that you want a coke (instead of water or beer or something), specify as to which coke you'd like.

Diet...or diet cola....that way I hope to avoid the "we serve Pepsi" (Great!) or "we serve diet rite" (yuk!)

I get all of it except for calling everything Coke. Although I think that's what everyone calls it back home...I know growing up I always fought that, though, because even as a kid, it bugged me. I call it a soda. Or I specifically ask for which one I want, and that's usually root beer. I take in as little caffeine as I can, I'm already hyper. 'Course the sugar doesn't help much. ;)

We tease my husband from he's from New York, and says "soda."

We say "pop"out here in these parts. ;)

I ask him if wants vanilla or chocolate ice cream with that, because to us a "soda" is a fizzy ice cream drink ... not a pop! LOL

I think (even being from other country and speaking other language) I refer to is as Soda.........but when I was a kid it was Coke........even if it was Sprite or any other brand it was still Coke........

I think itīs like Kleenex.........with zillion brands out there, you refer to them as if the actual name was a certain brand.......at least in my case LOL

I thought about it and came to that conclusion. ;) I have always been aware of that whole thing, too...like calling all tissue "Kleenex" or all cotton swabs "Q-Tips", etc. I have always tried not to do that, I'm a Virgo, I sometimes can't help it. :D

Soda.

My husband, like most of the people in their teens and twenties that I know, refers to all caffeinated sodas as 'caffeine'. Pepsi, Coke, Mt. Dew, Dr. Pepper... it's all 'caffeine'. Anything without is called soda. I don't have that habit, but maybe it is because I avoid caffeine. Dunno.

It's a Coke. Whether diet or regular, Pepsi or some other brand, it's a Coke.

I call it soda. But, over here on the east coast we call those fizzy ice cream drinks a "float."

When I was younger, I referred to it generally as Coke. With Houston, becoming such a melting pot though, over the years I've gotten in the habit of saying the specific brand name, when ordering at restaurants.

I still use Coke with family though, if I'm speaking in general terms, such as requesting somebody bring "Cokes" to the party. Meaning an assortment of drinks, not just Cokes. With people I'm not as familar with, I use either soft drinks or soda water. I don't think I've ever called it pop.

I call it Coke. Every brand or type or whatever, it's all Coke. If you go to a restaurant here and say "I would like a Coke" the waiter usually asks "What kind?" instead of actually getting a Coke brand. That's how I grew up and it's how all my family says it!

I call them fizzy drinks. Some people I know call it pop, but for me, coke and soda are types of fizzy drink.

Ditto I call it fizzy drinks or minerals if I said pop or soda to my husband or some of my friends they would look at me and ask if I was ok because pop is an ice pop or ice lolly or soda is soda bread or soda cake in my house....
