Well...tomorrow is vet day and she does have some kind of infection in her pee.We brought that in today.I think she has kidney failure. But not sure.I'm getting her complete blood work tomorrow and she'll probably need an ultra sound done from there(At another place).
we got Mia at the shelter and she was just brought in the day before...she was abandoned in a home around here. She was dehydrated, and skin and bones. She's gained almost 4 pounds since here.We are totally in love with her.
she's between 8-12 years old they said.
But we have her seperated(in her own room). She pees a real lot. They said the vet they use THOUGHT he felt a scar underneath to think that she was spay already.
But we'll know with my vet tomorrow for sure. She pees and poops fine but pees WAY to much.
I hope she's alright. And I hope she can soon join my others. My other cats don't seem to mind her at all when we bring her down in the basement. And she plays OK with them...but she marks all the walls while she's there.
Plus she is always soaked with drool.
When I saw her in the shelter...I had to take her home. She never would of lived...from being scared...soaked in urine...and drooling.I knew she was dehydrated too.We gave her Clavamox and pedialyte.
she's looking so much better now with weight on her now.And she loves us so much. She even knows her name.We say it over and over and she squeeks every time I say it now..and turns her head. She loves burying her head in my hair(drool and all).I love it.She's so good.
So...if you could add her to your prayers tonight...we really would appreciate it.Thank You everyone.

Thanks you guys.I'm accually in tears thinking the worst.I wanted to take her in earlier but Mike was fighting me about money cost.Finally.
He also agreed to let me take in Ethel tomorrow too because her eyes won't clear up after 2 months of terramycin. And she needs an xray because I think she has broncitis like my Rosco.I love Ethel so much. She's my newist(All black). She sleeps with her head on my head. She's so good.Their all so good.

I think I remember when you first got her, you showed pics and she was scared and thin as a rail and her long hair didn't look good at all.....right?

I will be sending good thoughts and prayers out tomorrow, hoping things go well at the vet for sweet Mia. :)

Debbie...I got Mia November 10th so I had her 3 months now.
That's probably the same one your thinking of.
But I got Jasmine a year ago.She looks like Mia and was skin and Bones when Jan(queenscoopalot)found her under a car trying to get out of the rain.(not spayed)
They both weighed about 4 pounds (When arrived at my home)and they both look a like.
Not close up though.
They both weigh about 8 pounds now.Mia wouldn't stop eating.I know 3 months is too soon to gain that much weight but she was starved for sooo long and someone left her behind with other cats and dogs. She was the worst one(That was alive).
I just didn't have the heart to stop feeding her.Now she's eating right and she's not finishing the bowl all the time.Thank goodness.
Or she'll end up looking like my Colby pretty soon.lol

Prayers for Mia. Hopefully it is something treatable...poor widdle girl.

She has the most gorgeous face - those slanted yellow eyes and her stripes!

I know about costs...would your vet agree to some kind of payment plan to ease any strain? That would help you and Mike a bit.

HUGS and I hope things turn out just fine!

If we need a ton of costly things done...I'll ask the vet...Thanks Catty 1.
Great idea.
Lori...Now that I'm feeling better after seeing the RIGHT pain specialist(A neorologist)for my back..I'm able to post more.I'll get caught up as soon as I can :) Thanks.I feel so much better.
And thanks everyone

I wish I could do more than offer prayers for those poor Cats. You have given Mia a fighting chance which is a lot more than many peple would have done.
We are praying hard for Mia and Ethel and pray that the Vet will not be as costly as they can be.
Please Lord let Mia and Ethel be all right.

Just got back from the vet.Mia has the beginning stages of Kidney disease. Her BUN and CREA were High on the blood Chemistry test which means she definetly has kidney disease. He said it's very unusual for her to have gained the 4 pounds since with me,but it could be because we're giving her tons of love and security(that helps heal anything). He wants me to give her for food,What he sells for kidney failure for the rest of her life. It's called Purina Ueterinary Diets NF Kidney Function Feline Formula. She's eating it now and she likes it.Good!Because that's all she'll have for the rest of her life.
He also gave me 2 weeks of Clavamox because there was some bacteria in the urine(not much but enough just to need 2 weeks only of Clavamox. There was blood also in the urine but that is due to kidney disease. He said since with me and doing so well....he thinks she could live another 4 years under my care.(of course we never know how long though...could be one year only). He shaved her belly and there was an old scar from Spay so that's good.
He cannot believe how well she's doing with kidney disease...the weight gain.He thought that was remarkable.
We Microchipped her.

Ethel is OK and being checked for Bartonnella. He said to stop the terramycin till the test comes back for bartonnella.Being on it for 2 months and not helping her eyes is unusual so it could be Bartonnella. He said her lungs sound great no weezing..so no need for a xray.(she's been coughing).Must be hairballs.
We had her Microchipped.

We also brough Harry and Mac in at the same time today for Microchipping only.
So all 4 got their microchipped...and the whole house is microchipped now. That makes me less nervous if they got out by mistake :)
So...I'm relieved to get Mia in and having her food changed. We need another blood test in 6 months for her kidney check..and in one month recheck her urine to make sure the Clavamox got rid of the bacteria.
The reason she is pulling out all the hair is because she's getting rid of the old coat from the bad diet she was on.That's what my vet said.Amazing how smart these cats are to do that. Her newcoat looks great. He said it's good for her to be pulling the bad coat out.
And...he doesn't know why she's drooling.Maybe just a bad life before and nerves.
Kidney disease doesn't cause drool until the last stages when their coughing up blood and the drool starts then.So it's not from kidney disease.
So overall...she's doing good, and I am soooo happy I took her when I did.

Aww. That's good news on Mia's kidney stuff. My Mishi is a kidney cat too and he's maintaining. He's on an antibiotic pulse treatment - one week one; three weeks off of Amoxycillin. He tolerates it well and now that I've discovered I can buy it on the 'net for a whole lot cheaper than my vet, we're doing fine. I wish he would gain some weight as he's so bony I call him Mr. Bones, but he doesn't seem to be in any distress.

Let's hope all our kidney kats thrive and stick around for a LONG time. Mia is BEAUTIFUL!

Oh Carla! I am so glad that visit went so good. Lets hope that new diet fixes her right up and she can be with you for a long, long time. I had Boo microchipped today also just for the peace of mind it gives ME!

I got a frantic phone call from Mike night before last and his Klinger and Yetta had gotten out and he was totally FRANTIC! At leats with them being microchopped, nobody could claim they were theirs like they did that other time Klinger got out and that lady said he was hers. (or Mike would have had him back the same day) Those microchips just give you a way to PROVE they are YOURS!

I hope Mia continues to do great under your TLC...

Carla, at least you know what is wrong with Mia and I'm pretty sure that with your care she is going to do just fine, but as always please keep us posted.

Sounds like you had your hands full with all those babies at the vets, but it seems like all is well with most of your gang. :)

Can you buy that without a priscription?Amoxycillin?I'm bringing her back in 6 months for blood redo and I'd like to ask my vet about it.And I'd like much more info on Kidney failure cats...from you or anyone..please.I really would appreciate it.My BooBoo had Thyroid disease and my Dude had Thyroid disease. Both passed on at 17 and 19 years old.(using the meds necessary for longer life).I've never had a kidney diseased cat..so I'm going to look for all the info I can to keep her life going.
Plus I am bringing her pee sample in,in 4 weeks for recheck after to make sure the bacteria is gone...I can ask more questions then.
I'm mixing her kidney food with just a spoonful of the Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance food for a while. She's so good about eating though. No worrys...right now anyway.

Oh Carla, that is such encouraging news about Mia! At least now you know and you know that she is doing well in your care! (Which I never doubted) ;) It sounds like you got her to the vet in time to really make a difference and keep her healthy for many more years! I'm so happy!

Glad to hear the relatively good report on Mia's white coat visit. Tubby lived for 3 1/2 years after he was first diagnosed with kidney failure, and he didn't need fluids until about the last month or so, so with her special diet and all the extra TLC, I'm sure Mia will live for many more years to come. :D

Oh Mia is such a beautiful girl and bless you for caring and rescuing this beautiful little angel. You are such a wonderful person and I'm sure with your wonderful care Mia will just thrive. She certainly deserves a wonderful life after all she's been through. I'll be praying for Mia to stay healthy and have many more good years with you.

Any update on Mike's cats? Are they home now?I hope they are home safe and sound now Laura.

I just HAD to get her microchipped.I'm like you....I also need that peace of mind. And My cats are just that(MINE..LOL)I would just die if Mia got out without the chip. She's afraid of the door anyway(even being 'I think an outside cat'before.)Not sure though.
But Mia is alone in the mudroom...(for now anyway)where the door for coming and going out is.I had to do it.We are accually putting some kind of gate wire across where the porch opens to the driveway where you walk down the stairs (or somthing like that. He's building something)so if she did get out in that area of the deck where it's not screened in...we have time to get her.It will eventiually be all closed in(wire type...not the top just the bottom...they could still jump but this is just for more safety).Unless she's a high jumper. But I know none of my cats would do it.I'm making this house completely cat safe for if any of the doors open.
The slider in the back (kitchen)will have a porch next year (we hope to have the money for a very small deck)and Mike will figure out some kind of gate there also....so we have time if one slips out to catch them.
But by then...we'll probably have this house up for sale.
We've been looking for a cheeper older home up furthur North with more acres for more privacy. My neighbors are too nosey about my cats and we just need more privacy. So much for the dream home :(
We can't afford it really anyway.Catfood isn't cheep and the cats are more important. And Mike is agreeing with me.Boy has he changed since moving to Maine with me :) Getting better and closer to the kittys all the time.He spent almost all night with Mia in the mudroom with her talking with her last night.(he's losing it...just like me.) lol :D
Now THAT made ME a happy mom.
My neighbor accually asked to see my house/cats...I know he just wanted to see if the house was clean and the cats were taking care of using the excuse that he wanted to see the new home.(without notice so my house was not picked up.He was talking to mike in the Driveway about the porch. So I said Hi (my mistake).
I let him in and he was surprised that he couldn't smell anything...the house was clean and I even showed him the cellar where the boxes are.Everything is always clean here.I never heard a peep after that. But I still don't like it...and I need to move. Some people just aren't in tune with others helping animals with their own money and dedicated all their free time to it.They think it's not normal. They just don't get it.Noone around here cares if their cats are out all day and night. They leave on vacations also for days at a time with some dry food and a small water dish outside.

My cats are everything to me.I see Mike getting the same way...slowly but surely :)

Yes Carla, Mike had already grabbed Klinger before I got my shoes on to run over there but Yetta was still out. My flashlight caught her on my way over and I went towards her with it and that drove her right into Mikes arms.

I just wanted to SLAP Mike! (POW!) He is constantly leaving that door open and he KNOWS Kilnger will get out. He told me no need to slap him, he had already slapped himself... He comes over here and will go to the door to leave and stand there with the door wide open and talk, and talk, and talk, and talk! I am constantly telling him to come back inside or LEAVE!

Your neighbor just may have wanted to actually see your cats. I use to see a neighbors cats in her window and wanted to knock on her door and ask if I could come meet her kitties. I finally met her at another neighbors and told her I would LOVE to meet her kitties so she took me to see them. I also caught one of hers one day when it escaped so she knows I am true blue honestly wanting to see her kitties! She has some real beauties..

I also invite all my neighbors in to meet mine so I can explain to them about Amy and if anything EVER happened (God forbid) and they should see her outside, to PLEASE grab her and call my daughter if I am not at home. I want them to know she is NOT sick, she has a birth defect.
