I've decided to share most of the thread from Petfinder and an email that I recieved from Suchaya... you can look up "Need Help for an Adopted Dog" if you'd like to see her original post.

If anyone has any other suggestion asides from what I've given her and what others at Petfinder has, I'd be greatly appreciative. It may come down to me donating some money to the vet for her pup. But that's my decision. I'm not asking anyone to give money.. just answers to what her pup might have and how they can treat it somewhat cost effectively....

I'm not sure what kind of bone disease she has. The vet that we went to is not specialist to this kind of disease either. He said he can send X-ray film to the State and have them analyze it which is again cost money. He said it's perspectively curable, however the X-ray film appeared that the disease is spreading. I can give you the name of the vet and also the phone number via email. Thank you for your help.

Hi Suchay,
I'm so sorry to hear about you sick dog. I've contact someone who is affiliated with the Ottowa Shores Humane Society to see if something can be done. In the meantime, it sounds as if you may need a better vet reference. I do go to a vet who has an Orthopedist on staff here in Grand Rapids (just around the corner from you). They are entrusted with both the Golden Retriever Rescue's dogs as well as two other local rescues. I've been very impressed with their service and even needed the Orthopedist just this week for my cat who has a broken leg. I don't have any money to contribute, but if there is any other help I can offer please let me know. I'm willing to foster or transport if necessary.

Ottowa Shores Humane Society is where we got the dog and no they can not help us with the financial. What is the name of the hospital in Grand Rapids? May I have thier phone humber or who should I contact with? Thank you.

I figured that was where you adopted him from. One of our dogs originally came from OSHS as well. He was heartworm positive, and while he had many potential adopters, none could afford to pay for his treatment. Luckily the Humane Society contacted Golden Retriever Rescue which is how we became his foster home and then decided to adopt him ourselves.
We actually began attending Southkent Veterinary Hospital upon the referral of Golden Retriever Rescue and I knew of a couple of other rescues who used them as well. Their prices are VERY fair, and I consider them to be lower than what many others charge. They have two practices, Caledonia and Byron Center. We use the Caledonia office. It should be within an hours driving time from you. The name of the Orthopedist is Bob Jackson. I actually just saw him Monday for a recast on my kitty and I really like him. You can reach them at 616-891-9070. If you need any other help please let me know. We live within about 20 minutes of the office.

Ok. We called the number that you gave us and made an appointment at 8 pm. on Monday the 1st. with Bob Jackson. The receptionist that we talked to could not give us an idea how much it's going to cost until they see the dog which makes sence. Another 2 weeks to wait, we sure hope that it won't be to late to cure the disease. Thank you for your help.

I'm so glad you made an appointment, but I'm disappointed you'll have to wait so long to get in. I'm sure if you were available to come earlier in the day you'd get an appointment much sooner. Please let me know if you'd like another set of ears at the appointment, I'd be happy to attend. I'm sure Southkent will be willing to help set up a payment plan for you guys. They're very understanding.

The email
Hi,

Thank you very much for your information. I just emailed CVM about the problem and I hope to hear from them soon.

Dr. Nash at Grand Haven Animal Hospital is the vet that both my 2 dogs and a cat go to. They have been very good so far even with Annie case.
We talked about the situation couple times and he is helpful but nothing that he can do to help us further than what he had done. The hospital is small and they are the cheapest around here so I basicly dont know what to do. You can contact him at (616) 846-6700

Anyway..I hope I'll get the reply from CVM soon and I'll let you know.

Thank you again.

Suchaya

Someone even suggested they have the Beagle mixes leg amputated.

Would that stop the disease?

I pray it wouldn't come to that....

Oh, Kimmy! I hope they don't have to amputate her leg. Perhaps that won't help at all.

I hope the University can help. Sometimes, I have learned that it is more effective to get on the phone to contact people than it is to e-mail. My fingers and toes crossed that they can help her.

Please let me know if they need a donation. I would be willing to help.

I wrote her to keep me informed on what the vet says.

Even with a payment plan, if the amount is high, I'm going to let her know I'm donating some money to whichever vet is treating her.

I'll keep in touch on this. :)
