KCS, at Cat of the Day, at the left, have you clicked on search, typed in calico, change number to 100? You'll find about 80 calicos who have been Cat of the Day.

Ps, I don't consider my calico "plain".
She's extra special.

Opps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry!!! Well what I mean is, there is a Calico and a Dilute Calico. The Dilute calico doesn't have much fur (well it's a shorthair!) and the other is very, very, very furry!!!! The bornw on a Calico is much darker too!!!! Opps!!!

??? I thought that dilute calicos were calicos with more pastel shades in their coats -- I didn't notice that they were DSH. I'd almost swear the one that won at the cat show a few months ago was DLH. I'm confused now (so what else is new)???

Well, it's like this, Amberlee, I was sitting with my friend during reading. She was reading one of those like whaddya call them? Eyewittness books? Well while she was looking through a cat book and asked me which one was Fritz. There were 2 pics on top of each other. Dilute Calico and Calico. Yeah you could say Fritz is like a pastel calico kitty...and then a Calico has the original colors. But, don't forget there's all different types...like sphinx...did I spell that rite? and...hmm...the ones with the ears flat against their head. There can be calicos of that type too. (i forget what it's called) So that's probably why. But all I kno is that Fritz's hair is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay (ok i'm exxagharating) (ok I don't kno how to spell that but sound it out maybe you'll find out LOL) it's just shorter.

We have a calico her name is pumpkin!
Is it true that male calicos die very easily?

What the...? Males? I have totally no idea. But, I've heard that most kitties with three or more colors are males...so....

I don't have a calico but I've heard that most of them are females and that males are rare. If this is true why is that? I've always wondered why.

Ok, I'm not a cat expert but like I said, cats with three or more colors are mostly always females. My calico has...white, black, brown, and a bit of orange on her face. So that's why she's a female! :);) ;) :) Hope this helps!

Actually, male Calicos don't die easily, but they are born sterile (at least a great majority of them are).

The gene that produces the red color is linked to an X chromosome. Females carry XX and males carry XY chromosomes. To produce a calico, you need one dominant and one recessive gene. Since females have 2 X's (which produce the red), they can carry both the dominant and recessive genes needed to become calico.

This is my calico "Pretty". She was a rescue cat with 4 kittens. The kittens were placed in homes, but we decided to keep mamma since finding a home for a grown-up cat is difficult and we didn't want her to keep on breeding.
She thinks she's the Queen here now and is very bossy with the Snowshoe boys.

Sweet Chloe, a tortie, actually, there wasn't a single white hair anywhere to be found on that girl (those light stripes above her eyes are orange eyelashes set against her pretty black face)

Pretty Cleo

Solo and Chloe have crossed the Rainbow Bridge :( , but Cleo's here next to me, looking beautiful and sweet.

We have a kitten calico !!! To be a real calico , 1/2 of the cat must be white , including the paws , the belly and the lower part of the head . The other coloures are a mix of black or brown , and orange !
Our Maya is a rescue . The vet told me that all calico's are females . A calico male is very very rare !!

here is a pic !!
