My two hamsters-Pebbles and Angel- were the best of friends until this morning. They keep fighting with each other. Angel won't leave Pebbles alone! Pebbles got a scratch on her head and Angel has some hair ripped out of her.

Usually they aren't this mean to each other. They are always playing nice with each other. But now they are actually fighting!

I never had this problem with them before! What should I do? I don't want them to get really hurt :(

What kind of hamsters are they? If they are syrians they need to be separated.

They may be fighting over a number of things, space, food, etc. Make sure that they have all of these things in good supply. I know this may sound silly, but are you 100% sure they are both female? Males and females are generally hostile around each other, and if that is the case they need to be separated right away before you end up with a litter.

If you can't figure out why they are fighting but they continue to harm each other, really they have to be separated. Wounds become infected easily and it's hard to treat an animal as small and as delicate as a hamster.

I hope they stop fighting soon! :)

Pebbles and Angel are Darf hamsters. I been told that they can live in the same cage if they have been together as babies. And they are sisters.

I have feed them each twice a day and I always make sure they have enough food and water. Later on today I'm going to go to PetsMart and get a new cage for Angel.

Hopefully, that works!

It good that Angel likes her new cage and i think the reason they r fighting is maybe they just dont want 2 wit eachother. :) / :(

It could have been a number of reasons...not enough space, maybe they had a fight over the water bottle or some food, not even places to hide from eachother when they want to be alone, not a bin enough food dish for both of them to sit in. But what i suggest is to try and not put them back together ;)

That is why I never put 2 hamsters in the same cage (too afraid they would start fighting) I agree with the others. They could've been fighting over a number of things. I'm glad Angel likes her cage. Which reminds me that I have to get Peedee a new wheel...the one he has is a bit small for him.

Good Morning,
Once hamsters reach a certain age, be it two males, two females or one of each they like to live alone. Hamsters do not socialize in the wild. They will each need their own cage otherwise they will hurt each other. Good luck, they truly are wonderful pets.
