Okay, here is the deal.. My husband and I want to take a vacation. The thing is, we really want to take Belle too. So far, we are having no luck finding someplace fairly close by that will accept pets. Do any of you have suggestions? We were trying for Tennessee, but, so far no luck. We did find some place in Colorado, but that is really to far to drive in the time span that we have. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.....Thanks! :D

I don't know anywhere specific close, but a few ideas...1.go through back issues of Dog Fancy. Most libraries have 1-2 years back. each issue features a pet friendly travel spot. 2. Other dog magazine. examples are Bark, Dog World etc. 3. Contact AAA and ask if they have a list of dog friendly hotels.

(I don't know how close it is, but Summer 2001 Issue of Bark talked about a place near Tallahasse FL, and March 2002 Dog Fancy featured San Antonio TX)

Sorry I can't be more help! I hope you find somewhere fun to go!

From an old thread, Jackie gave us these two links:

http://www.dogfriendly.com
and
http://www.petswelcome.com -

the first lists a place in Knoxville:

http://www.dogfriendly.com/server/travel/guides/us/usstateTN.shtml as well as many more - by city, didn't know where you were interested in ...

And dogfriendly lists 8 hotels in TN, first try!

I was doing some searching, too, for our trip from San Diego to Michigan and back. Staying in NE and NM.

I joined the AAA online membership thing (w/ my boyfriend's actual membership info) and got hotels for prices in our range. Then I just clicked on the ones showed AAA discounts and looked for a "pets welcome" icon. Then, I looked
at those hotel websites for more info. Some charged a fee, or small pets only, or pets OK in specific rooms , etc.
I know Super 8 (the one we're staying at charges $0 and no other restrictions... so they tell me...) and Motel 6 take them but I don't recall if there's a fee.
We are staying at a Travelodge that accepts pets, too, for a $10 fee w/ no other restrictions. And with the AAA discount it seems worth it.

ANYWAY - that was a lot of rambling mostly cuz I'm bored...
Sorry.

Good luck however you do it!
:D

Sorry, no suggestions, but if you find someplace nearby (I'm in Arkansas), I'd love to know!:)

Dixie Belle,

I would search for Pet Friendly hotels first. You need to make sure that your pup has a place to sleep. I always use TRAVELOCITY. It allows you to select your options and one of the options is Pets Allowed! Travelocity.Com (http://www.travelocity.com)

After you have a hotel, you can look for attractions and events. If all else fails, have you considered a camping trip? You could rent an RV if you don't like roughing it. But if you are the outdoors type, you can pack up your tents and sleeping bags and head out to the great outdoors. Your dog will be able to run around sans leash and you will all have a great time. Just a thought.
