He loves his tummy scratched. He's a bit frightned right now. My dog got a lil TOO close and got scratched on the lips. He tried to nurse on Ashley :D

He hisses a bit when you get close. He wasn'tlike this at the shelter. I think he just needs to get adjusted. He hisses with me a lil bit till I scratch his head then he remembers me and calms down.

So right now he has access to 2 rooms. He's already used the box. I wonder how long it will take for doggie and him to get along? Runner just wants to sniff and play rough. She never plays that way with me.

He's about 2 months old. Needs a name.

Also, he doesn't have much fluff. How old are they when they get fluffy?

What do you mean "how old are they when they get fluffy"? You mean the breed(s)? Chances are he's not going to get fluffy if he isn't already.

I can say that I've *never* had a cat in my life that was short haired and then grew long hair. My boy cat had fluffy hair when we got him and he grew up and it stayed a gorgeous, shiny, medium length tuxedo coat. Isis, my Siamese female, came from a litter of ten. Almost all of her brothers and sisters were huge, fluffy, and stayed fluffy. She and a sister of hers were shorthaired and stayed that way.

you said before he was birman I believe and if that is the case he won't be a fluff ball. Birman's have short hair. Soft hair but relatively short.

Name...well something regal for a Sacred Birman...maybe something like Odin or Orion...Amun...Juno

I will try to think of some more

My cat is fluffy but still shorthaired. Not all Sacred Birmans are medium or long haired, as well.

Oh my, he is just as gorgeous as in his Petfinder pictures!

If you google birman and look at the Cat Fancy breed standard, they are fluffy. BUT your little guy is a Birman MIX, it said that on Petfinder. So he is mixed with something that is short hair and that is what he has, the short hair, with the Birman coloring and look.

It could take as much as 6 weeks for the transition. but the dog has already learned not to get too chummy, ha ha.

What a lucky fella he is! I am sure you will come up with a regal name deserving of such a sacred cat. Best wishes with your new kitty!

He could still be a purebred Birman. Fluffy is not synonymous for longer hair.

Most of the pics and information I'm looking at is in my copy of Complete Encyclopedia of Cats (a book about domestic cat breeds). All of the Birman cats and kittens are soft or poofy or fluffy or whichever. All of them are medium or short haired.

At any rate, he's very cute! :D

It might take a while but remain vigilant. :D Bailey has been here for several months and is still not used to Spanky. My in laws cats have lived with dogs and birds for years but they still have a hiss fit when a peafowl or anything approaches them.

I'm glad to hear that you were able adopt him. He sure is adorable. I'm sure that in time all of your animals will learn how to get along.:) The purebred Birman's that I've seen at several cat shows have had long hair but since he's only a mix it looks like he'll have short hair. Good luck and enjoy.:)

oh I know lol. I supervise them. I finally got him to sit with the doggie. And she just sat there sniffin him. He was sniffin around on her tummy lol. I petted him and he laid comfy curled up with her.

As long as he doesn't run, Runner won't run either lol. If he runs she thinks of it as playing.

He's a good hider too. Took me an hour to find thim this morning lol

My dog Shadow was the same way with the kits but they quickly learned he was playing and then it became a game. Jake is very young so it shouldn't take him long to adjust to both Ashley & Runner and of course the humans in the household. He will probably bond with the animals quicker than the humans atleast that has been my experience with very young kittens.

And as for hiding big cats are exceptional at it so look out when a little one decides too hide. It is like finding a needle in a haystack. Good luck with Jake and keep us updated on his progress please.

Jake seems to be very comfy and cozy in your daughter's arms. She looks like she is very gentle with him. Very cute indeed.

She is. Shes mad at me for taking him away. He needs a break lol. She keeps switching arms and stuff, making him a lil scared.
