Please, everyone, go to www.rd.com and vote for this man! Would that the United States could be a no-kill nation!
The Animal Lover: Nathan Winograd
Nathan Winograd has been rescuing injured and homeless creatures since he was a boy. So no one should have been surprised when he left his job as a corporate lawyer to run an animal shelter. It meant giving up lots of perks and moving his family from sunny California to Tompkins County, New York, known for its harsh winters. Today, thanks to Winograd's revolutionary ideas, it's the first no-kill county in the United States. Only animals with incurable illnesses and the truly vicious are put down (the national average is 60 percent). And Winograd travels the country, sharing his methods with a big goal in mind: a no-kill nation. Already, participating cities have seen pet adoptions jump 300 percent.
