This month's dog fancy is featuring the American Staffordshire terrier, and has an article about dangerous breed ban.
And if you are allergic to your pet, very good!!! I immediatly thought of BaSim.

I don't like the American Staffordshire Terrier!! It's closely related to the Pi Bull. I don't know much about the Field Spaniel, though! I can't wait!!

ANYONE please correct me if I am wrong but isn't the American Staff a Pit Bull??? If not what is the difference, I DID read the article and it doesn't really say.
LabLoverKEB, I am the first person to admit that I didn't like pits for a LOOOONG time, they scared the bejeses out of me, but its just like someone saying "I don't like cats" how could you not like a helpless little creature? Yes the pits have gotten more than their share of bad fame, but so have Rotts, German Shepherds, and Dobermans. The one Pit bull that I knew years ago, for a very short time, was a nice enough dog, but wasn't owned by the greatest of people, so what ever happened to him I don't know. But now I often wonder about rescuing a pit bull, tho I think my family would have the same predujices that you have.
You know what, I am not overly fond of the black labs looks, I prefer the chocolates, but sometimes I like the blacks, chocolates, or yellows, I think Star (Shine http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif) is adorable, and a friend of mine has another pretty little yellow lab. Another friend of mine had a black lab about the size of a Newfie, he was huge, and beautiful, and they had the sweetest little chocolate, they also had the gangliest, tallest yellow lab I have ever seen. Now that doesn't mean I wouldn't want a black lab or don't like them. But I am not going to be predujiced against them either.
Just remember that when you say "I don't like________" you are talking about someone's baby!!! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif I try to remember that when one of my best friends talks about her hound from hell, and he is a cocker spaniel!!! But she loves him and he's her baby - so whatever!!!
Enjoy the magazine http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif

Amen to that Staci! As with humans, I try to judge each dog one at at time; judging him or on his or her own "merits," taking into consideration his or her background, etc. There isn't a breed, or a dog, that shouldn't be given a chance to love and be loved. And ****Star Shine***** says thanks so much aunt Staci!! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif Woof and hugs to Shai!

The poor AmStaffs!!! People think they're so mean but if you treat them nicely they are complete angels! We rescued a AmStaff/Boxer and he was so sweet! I wish we kept him!

From what I've read, there is no such breed as a Pit Bull. Boxers, American Staffordshire Terriers, Staffordshire Bull Terriers, American Pit Bull Terriers, any mixes of these breeds, or any breed with a boxy head and a big build can and will be labeled as a "Pit Bull". Someone even asked me if my Rottweiler was a Pit Bull once.

LabLover, why don't you like the American Staffordshire Terrier? Just because it's related to the "Pit Bull" isn't a very good excuse. Have you ever even met one? If you have met one with a responsible owner, your mind will quickly be changed. These beautiful animals have this horrible reputation because when handled irresponsibly they have the potential to become aggressive. Am Staffs are not for everyone, but they are a friendly, loveable breed. Please educate yourself about "pit bulls" before you hurt others feelings and get everyone mad. http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif Thanks.

Gee, thanks rottie!! I learned a lot about Pit Bulls and Amer.Satffordshire Terriers, and Staffordshire Bull Terriers! I was reading all my dog books, and since the Pit Bull is not a registered breed in AKC, I looked at the amer.Staffordshire, instead! By the way, your dogs are adorable!!

A better way to put it is that you like the dog but it's not the breed for you!!! I love small dogs to cuddle and carry but prefer the big, step on my toe and break it type. My neighbor's Pitbull is awesome, a real sweetie. There's a new pup in my area, walking 2 little girls and I swear it's a pitbull, but they said their father says it's a Bull Mastiff!!! Ok, whatever! But I've been slimed, jumped on (1 time only. trust me) and spent 10 minutes giving belly rubs, carressed his face, and it's a PB if I ever saw one. Powerful, sleek, huge face but sooo sweet! I really hate to toss my DF's, they have the best articles! Great for reference!!

All dogs have the potential to be mean if they are mistreated or handled in an aggressive way. The difference is that some of these dogs like the Pit and the Rott are very powerful creatures! And, people have breed them to be aggressive.
All the hype on the Pit is crazy! The dogs aren't bad, the people who make them mean are!
I had a pit puppy and my landlords asked me to get rid of it or move because they were afraid of lawsuit if anything happened on their property. This dog was so sweet and wouldn't hurt a flea. She was much milder than my Silky Terriorist,Angus, who was allowed to stay.He is cute and doesn't look threatening!! Ha! little yorkies and silkies can get down right mean!
So, you can't judge a dog by his bark or bite, right?

I agree completely! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif

The reason they are thought of as mean is because theya are so big and powerful. Imagine a 100 pound yorkie! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/eek.gif

Over the past 50 years, careful breeding has produced today's American Staffordshire Terrier who is affectionate, reliable, and an especially good dog for children.

i'm not trying to be Mean but are you trying to say you didn't like a breed that related to a pit ,wich may i add are very loving effectionate ,smart dogs.

it's neither of the breeds fault that
those who came before us beard them to fight . i've never seen the AST,BUT I HAVE SEEN A PIT/ OWNED A PIT all of wicth have been sweet, angelic lap dogs. the pit's reputation is toataly incorrect if it is mean wich they very rarely are than it's usully the owners fault . besides all breeds have bad apples.
