Wooly Dobie

I came across her when I was checking out the Illinois Doberman Rescue site. Too cute! :D

During the last ice age, as the world's oceans receded and ice caps advanced to cover the earth, a land bridge was formed over the Bering straight. Across this bridge came an array of Pleistocene megafauna, fierce mammals such as the Mastodon, Saber Toothed Tiger, Giant Sloth and of course the Wooley Mammoth. But the most adorable of these ancient beasts had to have been the notorious "Wooley Doberman"...
This adorable girl was dropped at a shelter and bailed out by IDR's Indianapolis volunteer. She is obviously a mix, but with what? She looks just like a Dobe, with a docked tail and her very own winter coat. She is quite malnourished at 45 pounds and will look great once she gets some weight on her. She is so soft to the touch. Wooley Daisy is 2 years old and needs some to learn some boundaries and obedience, but all in all is a very affectionate, sweet dog. Maybe a little curly coat retriever?? There is a genetic gene associated with a light curly coat in a flat coated breed. I forgot what it was called, but my mother would know. After the football games- I will call her and ask her. In a short coat breed that should be silky it also makes this wooly coat.

Believe it or not...there are such things as *gulp* Doodlemans...aka Doberman/Poodle designer breeds. Maybe she's a throw off of that. Here's a picture of one:

Weird, I've heard of doodlemans before and the only one I saw looked like it was sick. That one like of looks like a shnauzer.. how weird.

Anyways she's an adorable little girl and I wish I could bring her home! :D

Awww...such a cutie!!! I wonder if it could be like having a curly haired Rotti?? Our first ever rotti, was like that! she had longer hair than most rottis, and it curled. Vets said it was a recessive gene or something?? I cant remember!!

Then it came from a subdominant gene triggered by autoimmune parent or parents. This then becomes a dominant gene, and is carried to the pup. The pup usually also has other types of autoimmune diseases- such as autoimmune hemoletic anema, low thyroid functions, etc. Hopefully none of this is the case- and the dog is really a mix..

Hmm, it seems to me that recently I saw another picture of a "long-haired doberman", but I can't remember where I saw it. Hope she gets a good home, she looks very sweet.
(there are wooly huskies too, but that type of coat is considered a flaw & undesirable. My understanding is that this is purely based on practicality - a long coat ices up ...not a good thing for a husky)

she is definatly a cutie! very unique looking! no idea what she could be mixed with other than maybe she's a "desighner dog" like other people suggested. i hope she finds a permanent home!
