View Full Version : Prayers for the Mayor

Lady's Human

I'se gonna get thumped by Miss Hoppy for this, but some Pupz have promised me they've got my "6"..........

Our Mayor is having a few issues lately, seems her body has decided that it just doesn't like food.

Prayers that she finds food that she CAN eat, and that the whitecoats can do something about it.

(Okay, Karen, THUMP away)

:( Poor Karen. I'm so sorry to hear that she feels so bad. I have told the girls and they all have their paws crossed as we speak! They are asking if they can send some of their kibble. Have Karen's doctors tried that?

All the best, Karen. I hope some progress is made VERY quickly.

Is she sure it isn't a nasty stomach virus? There is one going around here. My daughter and Jenna both had it this past week.

Karen
11-18-2006, 11:57 AM
Kim, I am sure it is not a nasty stomach virus. I have some known food allergies, and know that this is what it feels like. I am feeling back to normal today, thank goodness.

Sadly, Phred, one cannot live on chocolate alone!

For the record, Lut, yes, Lady's Human is my brother - and he's actually my younger brother, though he is taller than me. We have two other siblings as well, older than us.

I am allergic to such diverse items as avocado, beef, broccoli, celery, sucralose - I won't bore you with the whole list, but there are a couple additions from yesterday's skin tests, and then, in a week and six days I can call and get the results from the blood tests. They took 5 vials of blood, and we checked off a whole lot of stuff off the list, so I ought to end up with a comprehensive list of "safe" foods.

Karen, I'm sorry to hear the allergies are flaring up. Food allergies are no fun at all but at least you're finding out what to avoid to prevent future problems. I'm very glad you are able to get a list of 'triggers' and avoid them. IBS/colitis and other food allergies seem to be so common these days. I'm even taking Nakita in for allergy testing in the next couple of weeks. :( You have to wonder what's happening with our systems.

When I was young my mother was in the hospital for extended periods for close to 3 years with a severe form of something like ulcerative colitis. One day she was fine, the next day she doubled over in pain and her body started rejecting all food. The doctors tried everything but nothing worked. Her case was so severe that even the layer of particles on a knife, that was used to cut a piece of bread, would send her back to the hospital if it entered her body. Then one day 3 years later, her body clicked back over and started accepting food again.

Today she has no food allergies. The doctors documented her case in a medical journal because back in the 1970's they had never seen such a severe case that rectified itself. It's the closest thing to a miracle in my books.

I'm starting to have some problems myself and I'm at the same age as my mother. I currently have to watch how much dairy I consume but I really hope I don't end up in a similar situation as my mom.

Hope things will calm down for you in the coming days/weeks.

I did make them redo the skin test for apples, telling the doc and the tech "I really need to know if I can eat apple pie at Thanksgiving!

And it came up with no reaction at all, so apples are at least theoretically safe!

Allergies are, for those who don't know this, your immune system going beserk. My immune system has always been good, it's just gotten a wee bit TOO ambitious for my taste (or comfort)! Of my siblings, my asthma has always been the most bothersome, and that is also linked. I am just *special* they tell me!

So far rice is okay, and chicken should be ... I'm just being very cautious at this point. I think it depends what the results are whether my doc will reccomend a dietician, up to this point I've managed pretty well just avoiding what I am allergic to, but obviously my allergies have changed again. Sigh.

Karen: I've been out all day and just seeing this now. I'm so sorry that you have to go through this. I can't begin to know how it feels as I have no allergies at all. At least, I don't think so. I purchased a couple of feather pillows from IKEA recently and noticed that I've been sneezing so maybe I'm developing them. As for food, I can eat pretty much anything. I avoid really hot sauce now because I suffer (rather, my colon suffers) the next day. :o Eggs...sometimes I can eat them and other times they will send me to the bathroom pretty quick. Yeah, I know, TMI. :p

Anyway, you have my prayers and I'm glad that you are feeling better. I am surprised that it will take so long to get the blood tests back.

I'm glad you're feeling better now, Karen. Sorry you have to suffer so much and have to wait so long for results.
i have a new found respect for people with food allergies. John's granddaughter has severe soy, nut, fish, (and some others) allergies and we all have to wash our hands and faces thoroughly before getting near her. She's only 3, but totally gets it. She's worse off cause she can't have CHOCOLATE, the mainstay for existing!!!
No Thumps for your brother, please..he knows how much we love you and would be really upset if we didn't know. {HUGS}

I purchased a couple of feather pillows from IKEA recently and noticed that I've been sneezing so maybe I'm developing them.

You may just need to double-pillow case them, or to wash them weekly - feathers accumulate dust really well. If you wake sneezing, but are fine mid-day, that's a sign! We have acrylic-fiber pillows, and always will. My dust/dust mites allergy is so massive that the allergist, one of two at a huge hospital in a city of 84,000 people, remarked on it to her assistant after not having seen me for more than two years, and left it off the skin tests this time. Some dust allergy is pretty much baseline for anyone genetically connected to me, so I grew up knowing how to cope with it.

And Karen, she's so young, there's a good chance she'll outgrow many of her food allergies. I, sadly, had none until a few years ago, and have grown INTO them instead.
