Betta isn't eating :( - UPDATE -

Hey guys... so the male Betta I got on Sunday STILL isn't eating. He ate two flakes on Sunday - and none since then.

He seems to be active for the most part - so I don't think he's sick....

When I put flakes in, he'll swim up, ?sniff? them, and then swim away..

Could he not LIKE the flakes?

I plan on going to Petland on Friday to get some bloodworms - is that alright/a good idea??

Also, what brands of food for flakes or whatever should I look for? What should I be feeding this little guy?

I would give the pellets a try, I know my last Betta just didn't like the flakes. Hope he starts eating soon!

Most of my bettas didn't like flakes and they tended to cloud the water too. I'd try pellets.

Most bettas don't like flakes so I'd go get pellets.Bio-gold are the best.My fish love them more then freeze-dried bloodworms.

My old betta's where always fed pellets in the pet stores because there cleaner, so maybe your betta is not used to flakes right now ... pellets would be a good option but do add some blood worms in it's diet as most betta's love them. :)

Funny! Every single betta I have ever had (7) they hated the blood worms. Yes, all of bettas don't like flakes either, so no worries you don't have a sick betta, just a picky one. :p

I had one that didn´t ate for a whole week when i got him.......

Pellets are a big hit among my betta gang.......also I use freeze dried bloodworm as treats or as weekend food........on weekdays i only give pellets

Well every single one of my betta's over the years ( about 10) loved there blood worms ....

Every betta is different.

I have two new Bettas and the first few days they wouldn't eat. I started to get real worried even though Bettas don't starve easily (Bettas can go more than 30 days without food! Although I would never go without feeding mine). They ate after getting settled in well. But I would try blood worms or pellets in your case :)

YAY! So I went to Aardvark Pets today and talked to the man who ran it about what to feed him. He gave me a package of Hikari Betta Bio-Gold and said to feed 1-2, and if he eats those maybe a 3rd. He also gave me a little pamphlet on caring for a Betta for free. :)

I'm so darn happy - I came home, cleaned out the flakes and gave him 2 Hikari pellets - and he ate it all (so I gave him one more)! :D

Hikari most always does the trick. =D I use it for both my bettas and my cichlids.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but your cichlids do fine on betta pellets? I wonder if I should start feeding my cichlid it.

I don't feed my Cichlids betta pellets. Hikari has different types of pellets made especially for cichlids.

Pellets are great! Stardust wants them too! I once fed him flakes and he too would swim away...
