My Dad rocks and my Mom is pretty cool too! My family all live at least 3000km away from here. I have three siblings, all of whom my parents see every day. My sister lives across the street from my parents and all of them work for my Dad's company. I get back once a year. I try for twice but it doesn't always work that way. I was there in August for a week and was saving up to go next August when we have a big reunion on my Dad's side. Not planning a Christmas visit, although I have spent some time trying to find a way to swing that too.

My Dad called yesterday. He's a gruff ol' farm boy with a soft heart. "If I send you the money, can you come home for Christmas?" I just booked my ticket for December 22-28!

Stuart hates the holidays and is quite happy to stay home with the critters. Last year he didn't even take the day off work! His Dad is here so if he wants to he does have someone to hang out with for the day. Lots of our friends will invite him for dinner(he won't show up, but they'll ask). I haven't been with my family for Christmas since before my youngest niece was born! I am so looking forward to spending Christmas with some little ones around!

That is so awesome!
I grew up in such a loving home that it always broke my heart when my friends "hated" their parents or didn't want to be bothered for whatever reason.
I'm so thrilled for you! With all you do, you deserve it. I sure do miss my folks a lot! I was a daddy's girl and could do no wrong! :D
Here's early wishes for a wonderful holiday!!!!

Glacier,

What a wonderful surprize!!! Your Dad sounds alot like mine was, rough around the edges but a heart of gold, who would give you the shirt off his back.

Have a wonderful holiday with your family.

Someone has already said it - but I will say it again - you are receiving a lovely Christmas present from your Dad - BECAUSE YOU DESERVE IT.

There are many blessings on Pet Talk - and you are one of them!

Have a wonderful Christmas.

That is a lovely way to spend the holidays, and extra special, as it turns out, as Stuart can man the home front!

Any reason in particular that Stuart hates the holidays??

He had a pretty miserable childhood and Christmas was no better than the rest of the year. He comes from a small family and most of them don't speak to each other anymore. He has contact only with his father. I come from a huge extended family and in general we all get along pretty well. I don't get along with one of my brothers, but we are civil to each other at family events and he doesn't influence my relationship with his kids, who I adore.

Most of my family thinks Stuart is a figment of my imagination. He's only ever met my parents and my sister and her kids. He's never met my brothers or their families or anyone from my extended family. I think the big family freaks him out a bit. The critters are an easy excuse for him to stay home! Not even an excuse really since we can not find a house/critter sitter! One of us always has to stay home!

Well, it's good that you have a built-in critter sitter but I am sad for him that he doesn't enjoy such a special time of year. :(

I think that is absolutely awesome! Lucky you. I would not like living quite that far from my family. I hope all goes well and you have a wonderful visit.
