I kept this on the "down low" if you will until he went into the hospital. He went in today for some testing. He knew he was going in so it isn't anything "new". He had some testing today. In a nutshell, his kidneys are failing and dialysis may be in his future. The testing he had today is in his words "The Fix is to go into the Cath Lab (again) and have a Electrophysiology Study done - the Heart Specialist / Electricial Doc "plays" with the heart's electrical signals - goal being to determine what flavour of Pacemaker will improve my heart's pumping action.
The "EP Study" is scheduled for before daylight on Monday, October 9th - at St. Elizabeth's Health Center -
where I was in January. Assuming she doesn't kill me tinkering with the ole pump; I spend the night and
she stuffs in the appropriate "Implantable Device" on Tuesday - and I supposidly go home late Tuesday.

If I make it though all this ... the next "repairs" are to un-plug my upper leg arteries. Don't have any time-line for that - but it's more wires, balloons, and stents, with maybe a little arterial bypass thrown in.
And I guess nobody's talking much about the Kidneys."
So he went in early this morning. I woke up around 7am and everytime I closed my eyes I sent up a prayer for him. I got a call around 12:45pm from his friend Pat and he is awake and alert and tomorrow has the Pacemaker put in.
So please keep him in your prayers and pray that his kidneys hold out with all of this.
I will keep you all posted!

Thanks Staci. I talked to him Saturday at the Husky Hike, but other than mentioning the electropulmonary test, he didn't say much. Good to know he's done with that one. I had pm'd Phred about asking if it was ok with him if I posted a request for prayer for him on our PR thread, never heard back from him -- so I posted last night anyway. (wasn't sure if he wanted people to know or not)
He'll feel much better once they implant the pacer. Will keep praying for his health. I hope they are able to improve it. "Da bussdriver" don't like to sit around doin' nothin'.

He said he felt like $hi* but would live through it! But he has said that all along!
Had a bit of adventure - throughout the day but all in all is no worse for wear.
He is to have the pacer put in 9:30 am Ohio time (I should say per this drs time - she isn't known to be on time).
Yes Mr. Bear is along for the ride.
well as I'm talking with him I am reading this thread and am seeing that he has already spoken to a few PT'ers today! :)

He sounds groggy and is easily amused. He thinks he's alive. :p
He has to sit and not move for 4 hours with a 5 pound weight on his chest.

Now, now, he is hoping to get sprung tomorrow, we don't want him going home TOO early, remember, he just had an auxilliary ticker-enhancer installed, gotta make sure it's not only gonna stay put, but do its job.

What he got does defibrillation and pacing, it's not a 3-lead one.

He and Mr. Bear were headed out for a walk after we got off the phone, he had been ordered for an extra 2 hours of bed rest after he weight - which was 5 pounds but felt like 50, he says, was taken off. As we spoke, he two hours were up, so he was looking forward to being allowed to walk.

Thanks to Karen for reporting in. Every bit of progress is a God send that we've been praying for, and I for one am glad that they are not kicking him out the door without a bit of followup. Gee, he's had enough neglect from the medical profession. That said, I am eager to see one of the pups pawing out their observations on having him back at the ranch and any tid bits he might want to relate about his adventures in the Big House that Randi pictured here.

funny - I was on the phone with the patient when you posted this! :p
He is waiting to be sprung. He isn't feeling great but better. I heard someone talking to him in the background - then I asked him about if he was in the CCU and I didn't think he was allowed to use his cell phone there and he said funny you should mention that the nurse just came and told him the same thing. After 3 days they finally see he's on his cell phone? Observant!
if all goes well he will hopefully be posting in and updating everyone tonite.

They actually put it in. The surgery for that procedures takes less than 30 minutes. (I think JoJoe's was 20-25 minutes) Patients are required to stay overnight by law, our cardiologist said he thinks this will become an out-patient procedure before long.

He wants to go home but the doctor hasn't been in- he's hoping she will come in soon and spring him. I asked him if he was driving himself home and he said you can't do that - it's against the rules and I said and what does that have to do with you. Got a chuckle out of him. He is using his cell phone and the nurse pops in once in awhile and tells him he isn't suppose to be using it.

He sounds pretty good - his sense of humor is still in great form - I just hope this will help him feel better. He has been feeling bad for a very long time. Time to get better!

Thanks for all the updates on Phred's progress. I don't really understand
all the medical stuff, but I'm glad to see he has his sense of humor back.
This sure has been a long haul for Phred. He certainly deserves to feel more
human again. Take it easy fella, and just take things a day at at a time.My
prayers continue for a complete recovery.

Ahhhhhh ...

*Home* Sweet Dog Heap! http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/smile.gif

Poor Tedd-E-Bear - after two night of sharing the hospital pillow - there was no room
for him on the BigBed. http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/frown.gif

Cinder & SmokeMutt didn't loose their "touch" at Pat's Place - BOTH were in their
"spots" on the BigBed last night before I got into the bunkroom.
Bit of a "challenge" to pull the blankie up with only one handpaw working.

Joan reported C&S missed sleeping ON the bed - which is NOT permitted at P&J's Place.
As soon as Pat got up, first Cinder, then Smokey, would "appear" at the edge of the bed
and *whine* softly, with their butts all a-wiggle ...
With Miz Joan as Bed Boss ...

"OK Cin, c'mone up - but just for a minute."
*LEAP* ~ *FLOP* ~ *CUDDLE*
"OK Smokey, your turn - c'mone up."
*LEAP* ~ *FLOP* ~ *CUDDLE*

Joan says she'd love to have Cinder "on duty" when Pat's not home -
Cinder's *ALERT* & *WARNING* http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/eek.gif BARK would scare off an army of burglars!
SmokeMutt just "tags" along - always observant and alert - but ever "The Quiet One".
Bowser and their Cali never get "ruffled" ... "HUH? WHAT burglar?"

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Answering some of the ?? Questions ...

Dr. Pete? Bet he has a lot better "bedside manners" than my Electrical Doc! http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/tongue.gif
But I had Tedd-E-Bear with me everywhere ... He just *smiled* a lot and made friends.
He was a BIG Hit down in X-ray (those folks must not get out much) ...
Nursey "spotted" Teddy snuggled beside me on the roll-a-bed and almost SHOUTED:
"OH, How CUTE!!! Let me show him to the rest of the gang!"
Teddy got a quick tour of the X-ray department. *I* was left in the hall.

Send-a-Smile e-mails ... I was there the wrong daze!
"Dave", the 80+ year old Volunteer who does the printing AND Delivery of the
patient e-mails - doesn't come in "every day". He brought Mayor Karen's early
Monday morning greeting before I left the Cath Lab ... but then wasn't "in"
on Tuesday and Wednesday. Maybe they should get him an "Assistant".
His Coordinator Girl said they DO snail-mail ALL late-arriving greetings to all the
discharged patients - so I WILL get your well-wishes. I told her to remind him to check
for "Phred" and "Cinder & Smoke" as alternate names.

Randi ~
That's the Place!!

My "wing" was just a bit off-picture at the top - almost above a covered walkway leading to the main entrance from the parking deck. The aerial photo show one of the "Old Main Entrances" into the original Hospital building.

"Loud Roomie" ...
He was a CHARACTER! "Met" him Monday in the Cath Lab Prep & Recovery room -
a "parking garage" for folks going into or coming out of any of the (many) Cath Lab Operating Rooms.
He had the "stall" next to me ...
A *BOOMING* voice and a NON-stop Talker! No wonder his wifey wanted to go home!
My Doc had come in to "chat" with me (really she was talking to Unka Pat) ...
but I had to strain to hear her over the ChatterBox.
He got shipped out first ... took em another 4 hours to find me a bed on Monday ...

I Got to the room and they finally let Pat in ... Pat and Roomie struck up a conversation
about the Good Ole Daze in Y-town ... I'm thinkin "I know that voice!"
YUP!! http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/rolleyes.gif
It was Old BOOMER from the Cath Lab!
Later Monday night I was talking (or TRYING to talk) to Mayor Karen on the phone ...
I think she asked Where I Was - 'cause it sounded like a bar over the phone!
Nope -just Roomie - *shouting* at Pat & Joan about Y-town Tails!

He only had to stay a few hours - he shipped out about 9:00 PM Monday ...
and I had NO Roomies till late Wednesday afternoon! http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/smile.gif

The 5# Brick on my chest ...

Bricks must be cheaper than People.
And the 5 Pounder wasn't the first one - I had the 10 Pounder on Monday!

Monday was the "Electrophysiology Study" - "EP Test" for short.
Doc "numbs" you up then drills 3 holes into the main artery at the top of right leg / groin area;
inserts 3 "guides" in the holes;
then threads three tiny wire "probes" ALL the way up and into your heart.
Then she moves to a computer and begins *tinkering* with the electrical signals
controlling the heart.
Object being to intentionally cause a heart malfunction ...
once she manages to "stall" the heart - she sends "corrective signals" just like
the implanted PaceMaker / Defib will do. Gets a lil "dicey" if the heart doesn't
respond to the simulated PaceMaker signals ... "Oh KRAP, he's dead! Hit him with the Defib Zapper!"
Dunno how many times she "killed me", but I remember waking up when the Nurses started
pulling the warm blankies off, tossed Teddy back on the cart - and off we went to Recovery.

Enter The Guy Nurse ... HI, I'm so & so - I'll be here for TWENTY Minutes
pressing on your groin! http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/eek.gif
"Direct Pressure" is how they try to prevent you from having any leaks in the holes in the artery. After 20 minutes of meaningless chatter - "The Brick" takes over ...
"The Brick" is a *HUGE* SandBag - a vinyl bag filled with - SAND! Weighs somewhere around 5-10 pounds - but feels like a cinder block!
"The Brick" takes over for The Guy Nurse - and The Brick doesn't keep <deep sighing>
and looking at the clock! THEN they tell you the Rest of the Good News ...
You get to lay, almost flat on your back, for the NEXT SIX HOURS! (WITH the Brick on your groin!) and without moving your right leg!

MORE Good News - You don't have a ROOM - Your Doc "forgot" to say you were staying. http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/mad.gif
NO TVs (not even piped-in music) in the Cath Lab Garage area ... enter Loud Roomie next door.

Wunna the Girls asked if I was hungry?
Uhhhh, yeah - been 12 hours since I ate anything!
"I'll order you a lunch tray." Pat went off to grab a sammich...

An HOUR later I saw a tray appear ... and several of The Girls *looked*at it then over at me ...
and went on about their business. Finally one of My Girls picked it up and came over to my stall, shaking her head ... "Sorry, Mr. Phred - but all they brought was ONE little ham sammich ... NO drink, No nappie, No desert. I'll go find you some mustard, and order another meal tray. How bout some coffee, too?" Eating & then drinking hot Kawfee through a straw, flat on your back, is *phunn*!

Another two hours passed (SLOWLY) before the Real Meal showed up ...
along with the advisory that they'd FOUND me a room. "Lunch" was good at 4:00 PM - the next holdup was that the Cath Lab "delivers" their patients with
RNs - not the "Transportation Drivers" that haul most patients around the hospital. And it was almost shift change and everyone was tied up ... Hurry up and wait here - you're Next to Go.

Thirty minutes later two of the Goofie Girls trotted over, kicked off the brakes,
and Teddy and I began a *WILD RIDE* to the 6th floor. Pat walked out front for a while, but feared he'd be run over and fell in at the rear. Dunno HOW may folks we scared the *krap* out of ... but every turn was a true adventure! "Ooopsie, 'scuse us!". I always wondered why ALL the hallway corners had stainless steel "protectors" on them - know I know why!
Teddy had his eyes closed when we finally arrived.
The Goofie Girls said they'd "get me" for tomorrow's Implant -
OK ~ "Laurel & Hardie" ought to make it interesting - hope they Nurse better than they Drive! http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/tongue.gif

I "scootched" off the Drag-Race Cart onto my bed, and SandBags were exchanged ...
"We want OUR SandieBag back!" said the Race Cart Girls. "See ya downstairs in the morning!"
I thought I heard tires *screeching* as they pulled out.

Day 2 - Implant Day

WHY did *I* have to be First to Arrive at OMG 7:00 AM in the Cath Lab?
They didn't even have all the lights on when I got "parked" in Stall #3.

The Goofie Girls arrived and showed Teddy off to everyone who hadn't worked yesterday. They did some "prep work" and Goofie #2 gave a step-by-step explanation of what Doc was going to be doing. Goofie #1 plugged an IV into Hole #1 in my left arm (hole drilled yesterday for the EP Study) and they debated if they should "start it". "She'll be late (My Doc) like always ... wait a while." Next up was the Small Gorilla that said he was "my" Anesthesiologist Tech working with Doc (slurred) ... "I need to start a couple more lines."

I didn't know they made needles that dull! I lost count of how many "attempts" he made to get two lines in ... the Goofies were even *wincing* in sympathetic pain on each *stab*.
9:15 AM arrived ... and Goofie @2 was summoned to the phone to talk to Doc R. An animated discussion followed and Goofie #1 was called over amid much Whoopin & Hollerin ... money was riding on IF Doc could finish pumpin gas and still make it to the Lab in 15 minutes.

IV's had been flowing for 20 minutes - and I hadda *PEE*!
"Well, you ain't gettin of the cart, Bud! *Pee* inna bottle!"
#1 to #2: "I TOLD ya we should wait on those IVs!"

*Brakes OFF* and off we went for another Hair-Raising Ride through the Cath Lab Maze ...
We shudda turned the siren on ... Poor Dr. Katz almost became a hood ornament on the third turn!
I thought I heard Teddy <GASP> on the final 2-wheel trun into the Lab!

Same Lab as yesterday - same Below Freezing Temperature. GOOD GRIEF!
We could see our breath! It was decided to "warm it up just a bit".

The Team all arrived - Doc appeared 3 minutes past 9:30 but got credit for an "almost" on-time
arrival - possibly a Craeer First for her. Teddy *watched* from the Race Cart.

They had told me I'd be "semi-awake" for the Installation - to "advise them" if I felt any pain.
Doc must not have wanted any help -- the Lights went Out just after the
"You'll feel a*pinch* and a little burning sensation" ...

Guess I missed the Main Event ... I woke up to "Laurel & Hardie" who were tellin me to
*scootch* back over onto the Racing Cart, loading Teddy on board, admiring the bandage, and telling one and all how well it had gone. *Brakes OFF* and the Race was on!
Almost knocked off two Docs wandering down the center of the race hall;
cut off another roll-a-bed at the final turn and then did a 180^ power-slide into Garage Stall #8 ...

The Girls finished mopping up, I got to *pee* in the bottle again;
then they brought in The Brick and tossed it right ON the Buzz Box Zipper!
OUWCHIE!!

"Sorry - but that's a Doc R. 'trademark' - ALL her PaceMaker patients get the SandBag Treatment!
FIVE Pounds placed right on TOP of the Implanted Device and it's Zipper!
They'll take it off at 4:00 PM! (Ya gotta lay FLAT till then.)
Let's *ROLL*! "

A NASCAR Start - three Cart Teams headed out a ONE-cart door ...
of course we made it out first.
Another "Adventure in the Halls" on the return to the 6th Floor ...
Doctors, Nurses, Patients, Innocent Visitors - no one was cut any slack. ... Dunno how we missed getting Black Flagged for wreckless carting ...
Goofie Girl #1 chirped "This is one of the NEAT parts of this job!" ... as we expertly cut off a Wheelchair Driver and his google-eyed patient by power sliding into an elevator.

I didn't count the fresh *dings* on our cart - but *THANKED* the Goofie Girls for a
really *PHUNN* Day ... and thought I heard Teddy give a <deep sigh> as we settled into bed.

... I need a NAP!

Another nasty *scowl* as she announces "Yup, it's 4:10"

Uhhh, this Brick comes off at 4:00.
"Sez who?"
The note on my board - "Sandbag till 4:00"
"I'll have to check with your Nurse."

She stomped back a little while later and removed the SandyBag / Brick -
then pulled my dress down and *poked* the bandage a few times ... http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/eek.gif
"Gotta see if there's any 'seepage' or bleeding."

<GASP> sez I.

I start to climb out of the big hole in the butt area of my mattress ...
"And WHERE do you think YOU'RE going!?"

Uhhh ... for a lil Hike in the Hall with Bear??

"Don't think so, Bud! You're on BED REST till 6:00!"

<mumble> - <grumble> - <mutter> ... but she was a LOT Bigger than me,
so I stayed put with any eye on the clock ... tick ... tock ...

6:00 came and I discovered my dress was untied at the top - hardly suitable for a Hike in the Hall.
I *buzzed* into Nurse HQ ... "Yessss ... whadda ya want?"
Can you ask Connie (my 'Real' RN Nursey) to stop by - I need help with my gown.

Connie never showed ... I got Miz *Smiley* with another hateful scowl ...
WHAT's wrong with your gown?
It's untied at the top.
"I know - I untied it ... I'll tie it when it needs to be tied." <exit> *Smiley*

She wandered back about 6:20 ... "You wanna go to the bathroom?"
SURE! I almost (almost) *leaped* out of bed ... then discovered she was gonna
*watch* the big trip to the potty. I *went*, then came back to the bed to grab Teddy
and headed for the door and FREEDOM ...

"HEY! WHERE ya goin? GET back in bed, NOW!"

Bbbbuuutttt ... it's 6:30 - I'm allowed "out" now. I wanna take a Hike.

"I said 'BATHROOM at 6:00' - not hallway!
At 8:00 you can go anywhere ya want - *IN*side This ROOM!
Ya can 'hike' tomorrow! ... Back IN BED - NOW!"

<mumble> <grumble> <mutter>

Connie appeared about 9:00 (*Smiley* had gone home) and I pleaded my case with her.
Not impressed ... she said Doc R. "never" let's patients "walk" the day of the procedure.
NUTZ!
When are you going home? And who's your Relief?

"Jeanine comes in at 11:30 ... I see you in the morning."

<mumble> <grumble> <mutter> ... I lay quietly waitin for Jeanine.

http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/cool.gif Jeanine dropped in about 11:30-ish ... she was super friendly the night before ...
I <whimpered> and <whined> about 'needing' a Hike - that Teddy was getting bored.
Anyway, it was gonna be "Tomorrow" in another 15 minutes.
She went off to *look at my chart* ...

The "Official Word" scribbled by Doc R. was "NO ambulation till morning".

Sez I: Sooooo ... what'sa problem? "Morning starts in 10 minutes - a New Day!

She looked *up* for Divine Guidance ...
"OK, I give up ... I gotta go see some sick people - You anna Bear do whatever
you want - just don't let me *see* you guys outta this room!
And try to keep it to ONE trip around the block!"

DEAL!
Bear and I slipped into our <invisible> suits and Took a Hike around the block.
The Plan was to do a fancy figure-8 through the Nurses' Station; then
reverse and repeat the journey before passing our room again.
Off we went ... Hmmmmm ... wonder why there's a "WET FLOOR" sign at both ends in the middle of the far hallway?

<Splip> - <Splop> - <Squish> - <Squash> http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/eek.gif
Answer: 'Cause the guy just drove the Rug Scrubber down the dang hall! http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/mad.gif
Slipper Sockz don't do well on WET Carpet!
Gave the Girls all a good <chuckle>.
One even offered that "THAT's why they put that SIGN up!"

<mumble> <grumble> <mutter>

Bear and I revised our route ... the "trail" we were leaving dried up during the second pass ...
Jeanine couldn't "see" we made TWO trips around the block.

We crawled into bed and I hug the soggy sockz up to dry on the bed railing.
Jeanine came in for evening pills and "noted" the Soggy Socks ...

"Lemmie guess - they're scrubbing the hall rug? <smirk>
You guys have a nice Hike?"

Smarty Pants ... G-nite!

She got her revenge ... woke us up at http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/eek.gif SIX a-klock in the morning!
"Rise & Shine - you're due in X-ray at 7:00!
Get yourself cleaned up - da Bus will be here at 6:30!"

You allow 30 minutes to go down 6 floors in an elevator and wind thru the halls for a quarter mile!???
Jeanine just *smiled* and said G-bye - she'd be gone when I got back.

Da Bus pulled up - no Racing Stripes (or *dents*) showing; and the Driver wasn't wearing
a flame suit. I hopped on with Bear and we stopped at TV Central to swap the "local"
telemetry box for a Long-Range model ... then off to the express elevator ...

A very "sedate" trip to X-ray - don't think we *clipped* a single corner.
I got abandoned in the hall for almost a half hour - their excuse for a Patient Waiting Area.
Hopped off the cart, stood for 2 <snaps> of the machine;
then lay on the cart for another 20 minutes for a different Driver to return and
haul us back to home on the 6th floor.

Breakfast had arrived ~~~ Rubber Eggs, tasty home fries, a cold muffin, juice, kawfee,
and a bowl of "porridge" that TWO packs of sugar couldn't help down.

The came The Blonde ... *perky* little thing - the Medtronic Rep to "check"
the Buzz Box and turn on a couple of features, then demo the "warning *Beeps*" da Box could produce if doom was pending. She *be-popped* in and asked:
"Are you Mr. Phred? I'm Suzie-Q from Medtronic!"

NOPE- he died last night and they hauled his ass outta here.
OMG!
I thought she was gonna *pass out*!
Memo to Self: DON'T joke with the Buzz Box Rep!

She finished her check-out and sent a couple of "Beeps" for me to hear ...
then seemed happie to be on her way! "Call Doc if you have any questions ..."

She'll remember THAT patient visit for a while!

Next up - *WAIT* and *wait* and freakin *WAIT* for Dear Doc to show up ...

New Roomie showed up around 2:00 PM - and was immediately hustled off
for some procedure.
We chatted a bit when he and Wifey returned ...
but he was tired and drifted of to La-La Land after he ate his cold lunch.

I made a few phone calls ... no problemo till Miz NOT *Smiley*, the Nurse's Aid gal, returned
in mid-phone call ...
"HEY! Didn't anyone tell you NOT to use that cellphone in here? QUIT IT!"

I hid behind the curtain for a couple more calls, then got back to "waiting" ...
All was well till "Mom" / Diana called and the darn cell *RANG* just as NOT *Smiley*
walked back into the room! OMG! ... This is gonna turn *UGGLIE!

"HEY! What'd I tell you about that phone!?
You'll goof up all the Telemetry in the hospital. QUIT IT!"

The *WAIT* lasted till 6:30 PM ... luckily they knew I was still there 'cause I got meal trays
for Lunch AND Dinner ...

In *popped* My Dear Doc - all *SMILEY* and Happie.

After a listen check with her 'scope, she lay down the New Rules ...
* NO using the left arm for a week ...
* NO Lifting or raising that arm above the shoulder for a MONTH
* NO Driving for a MONTH
* Keep it CLEAN - soap & water, then *pat* it dry - NO Rubbing!

Question?? Should I use antibiotic creme on the Zipper?

<EEK> "Of COURSE not! BUGS grow in that stuff!
Didn't I just say SOAP & WATER!?"

And she wasn't in any mood to "negotiate" the NO Driving.

OK ... just Sign me OUTTA here!
That only took another half hour.

Unlike the last Hoppsbittle Exit (down the back steps led by my Nurse) ...
I opted for the Free Bus Ride down with a Real Bus Driver.
He finally arrived and offered a seat on his BigWheel Chariot ...
A final G-bye to Cute Nurse Connie and we were OFF to meet Unka Pat!

Teddy-E-Bear rode on my lap and made a few friends on the way down ...
da Bus Driver almost drove me into the front seat of Pat's Bus and helped toss
my satchel into the back seat, then bid us G-bye & Good Luck! Nice Guy!

A quick stop at Wally's Mart for antibiotic pills and Tylenol ... then to Pat's Place to
SEE THE KIDS Again!!

Quite the Adventure is was it was ...
And a SPECIAL THANKS to All the Pet Talkers who sent Notes, Cards, Calls, and PRAYERS!!

I don't think "WE" coudda dun it without all your Love & Support ...

THANKS, Gang!!

sounds like in the midst of the phone calls when you complained about the emails not getting thru you should have mentioned the Nurses aide.

yea - we used to have a no cell phone rule - there was a lady walking down the hall one day chatting away and I said "sorry ma'am there isn't allowed any cell use in here" and she looked at me and said "yea I know" - her daughters were aghast - MOM get off the phone. Her reply - "what's she gonna do shoot me?" turns out she used to work there and was a respiratory tech - so she knows all about heart schtuff. I have never said a word to another person about it I swore I would not put up with that again. Shortly thereafter - it was deemed safe to be on the cell phone in the hospital. Good thing since most of the nurses spend a lot of time on them talking to kids or boyfriends or husbands etc

Phred - don't EVER stop expressing yourself :D Reading your last post had me in tears of laughter - oh the images ......

I'm so glad you're feeling well enough to give us such a great play by play - must mean you're on the rollercoaster to recovery :) Be good, play nice and get some rest.

Rolling on the floor again Phred!! Too bad the hospital staff really didn't share your wonderful sense of humor  Gosh!! Can't they take a joke or two?? What a thrill it is to be able to read your accounts of the adventure. Keep the stories coming. How are you feeling and how is it with only one arm? I can imagine it's a big pain in the........ I know if it were possible, all the PT'ers would form a great big nursing staff to make sure you have the best care 24/7. Too bad we can't all be there to help :) Take care and get better!!

How come that nurses always are tougher than doctors?

I can imagine how much the kids were happy to see you (and Bear) again :)

Phred, I work A LOT with Medtronic setting up the chemsitry test of their products to be sure they are safe for patient use. I don't know their sales people, but working with their engineerings, I found your joke very funny!!! They need to loosen up and laugh once and a while :p

Good grief, what an adventure you had!! But it was fun to read - better than ANY thriller! I'm glad you lived through it, it would have finished off everyone else. What were they trying to do? Test your stamina! When I got to the "WET FLOOR" bit, I almost fainted!

Well, I guess it was all for your own good. ;) I hope you're feeling a lot better now, with your friends around, the prayer pups and Boots - and in your own bed!

Now, take it easy, get some yummy food, and keep that arm down!

Oh Phred~~~ Your description of that Huttsbittle stay had me laughing real hard, I read it out loud to my husband while laughing after each phrase!!!!!

How well I remember the New Rules given to my Father-in-Law !!! I wish "HE" had your sense of humor ( which seems to be the only way to cope with the situation)!!!

From now on, I will refer to his pace maker as the Buzz Box ;)

You be sure and get your rest!!!!!!

Phred, my wish for the day is that your hospital adventure could be illustrated by some of our talented Pet Talkers and put into a little booklet for distribution to .......THE HOSPITAL WORKERS. :p Only thing would be you maybe not needing to ever go back to that hospital. Guess we can't take that chance, huh? The bear would surely give it away as to who told the tale.

How's things going at the Ranch? Sure hope each day finds you feeling a bit better. Did Suzy Q Medtronic girl give you any info on avoiding certain stuff that might send the box into a frenzy?

Phred I am sitting here in my silent house waiting for the rest of the folks to wake up. I am surprised no one has heard my outbursts of laughter. Your statement above, just about made me fall off the chair! :D

I can see everything you describe in my mind's eye and your writing is just *top knotch* and hilarious. I'm with Rachel.... an illustrated book filled with all of your humorous remembrances would be a treasure to have.

I can see that you are a patient that will have to be carefully watched. I guess there's no chance of getting the prayer pups to turn into attack pups should they see their Papa put the key into the ole ignition on the car. ;) I guess we don't need to worry, though, because after this account you would never want to do anything that would land you back up in that hobspittle. :p

Thank you for such an enjoyable account this morning. I wish I was close enough to help in some way. Since I'm not, I can still send some healing prayers up from NJ that should arrive at heaven almost as fast as your hospital race cart could get them there. :p Get well soon friend! :)

Who, ME? http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/redface.gif

Came close ... needed sum Pillz, Dawg Food, an "ME" FOOD!
Was preppin for the Big Trip on Friday when ole Firefighter Donny called ...
"Shirley made some supper for ya - be over inna few minutes!

http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/eek.gif I was almost going to be late for the Dawg Food Shoppe if I left NOW ...
If I *waited* for supper - the KIDS would go hungry ...
I stammered that maybe I'd skip supper ...
Donny ain't *dumm* ... "You're GOING somewhere, aren't you!?"

He'd be right over, WITH supper, and TAKE me wherever I needed to go!
We got the Dawg Grub, Kat Krunch, Pillz, and ME Food ... and Donny hauled
it all upstairs, too!
http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/smile.gif

Didn't have time to "call for a ride" on Saturday ...

All THREE of the flippin MUTTZ took an unauthorized "hike" around lunch time.
LOTTA *Hollerin* and Door **SLAMMIN** later ...

Mr. BAD Mutt Smokey was beatin feet from the west side neighbor's woods ...
followed a few minutes later by Miz BAD Mutt Cinder, at a medium trott,
returning from about the same direction.
Two IN, one still missing. http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/mad.gif

The Small, Fluffie, Hunter has been known to go that way ... OR across the Road;
OR up to the horse barn; OR who knows ...

I decided to "give" him 30 more minutes ... of *Hollerin* and Door **SLAMMIN**! http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/mad.gif

I was ready to dress up and start hikin when I heard **HONKIN** in the driveway.
Opened the doo to a neighbor from the Church Camp asking:
"Did you loose one of your Dogs?"
Yuppers, the lil Short, Fluffie One!

"He's down by the Camp - he wouldn't jump in the car with me!"

Sorrie Doc - we're going fur a BUS Ride!
I jumped in the Bus and followed the *Spotter* up the road ...
Half a mile to the Church Camp drive - and there's the Dang Mutt ...
wandering up their driveway ...

I pulled da Bus up alongside of him and hollered "Hey, BOWZ!"
He did a panic *look-around* as if to wonder if escape was possible ...
then just sort of *shuffled* my direction. I popped his door open and he jumped in.
We didn't "say" much on the way back to the Ranch!

I hope I muttered a "THANKS" to the Guy Upstairs.

It's gonna be a Loooooong month!

Timing is everything, and Donny's is just about perfect. ;) I know we are all so glad that you have lots of hoomans lookin' out for you and ready to bring hot chow right to your door. Now if only the dawgs would get the picture. Cinder, Smokester and Bowser Boy, the idea is to keep the hooman inside and resting. How are you gonna do that frolicking all over the neighborhood? Doncha know it doesn't take much for your lovable dad to *break the rules.* We need some cooperation here, you guys (oops, sorry Miss Cinder).

P.S. Ripley gave me the old Bowser *look-around* once when he backed out of his collar on a walk (we use a harness now). I had been chasing him down the street and was ready to go belly up on the sidewalk. A total stranger in a white SUV stopped and asked me if that was my dog. I must have looked close to death when I said yes. He asked his name and then very sternly called RIPLEY! Ripley's tail dropped like a bomb and he slunk over to me. I guess he preferred me to a stranger because this guy didn't look like he'd accept a *no* from Ripley. Sorry to get off track, but I will never forget the *look-around* look. Glad Bowser didn't need the help of my friend in the white van. He was sort of like The Lone Ranger only in a van and not on a horse.

I hadn't really *LOOKED* before ... OMG! ... (almost *passes out* inna baffroom!)

Musta been 50 Staples inna line ... Black / Blue / Purple / Green Bruises ...
looked like I'd been beat wiffa klub on the shoulder.
And I STILL had "sticky stuff" form EKG Patches and TAPE all over ...
WHAT will take that "sticky" off!?

Took another shower - wiffa eyes *closed* again ... *rubbed* a lil harder on
the "sticky spots" I could remember ... it'll wear off in another month or two.
"Pat" the shoulder dry ... QUICK - put a shirt on!

The Watch Mutts "went off" - Unka Pat must be here ...
Struggled into a coat and jumped in Pat's Bus ... off to the Electrical Doc's Office.

Doors locked - lights off - WHAT the ... ???
Receptionist / Bookkeeper stuck her head out - "Staple Removal??"
We were let in ... "Mz C will be right with you" ...

Pat and I were the ONLY two in sight - there WAS NO Other Patient in the building ...
but yup - It's a DOC's office - so ya gotta *WAIT* for 20 minutes!

So ... where's the DOC??
No Doc on the property - she's at the Hoppsbittle ...
"Nurse" Mz C will be jerkin out the staples. http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/eek.gif

Not really too bad - only a couple of "ouwchie" ones and one "bleeder".
Then she tossed the monitoring pickup on me and "checked" the Buzz Box ...
supposidly A-OK and *Zappin* along.

Another THREAT-Lecture:
* NO raising the laft arm
* NO "heavy lifting" (10# MAX!)
* NO driving for another 3 weeks http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/mad.gif

* Come back in 5 weeks (if you're not dead before then)

Getting my stitches out on the followup visit a week after my brain surgery was the worst part of the whole thing. I sat in a cold hallway and, because my doctor was in surgery that day, had my stitches taken out by a med student, who basically just stabbed at my neck and skull with her tweezers, as if I were target practice, not a human being. I hope she got a few courses in "bedside manner" before they set her loose on too many more people.

[WHAT will take that "sticky" off!? We used Baby Oil on JoJoe's, it takes a bit of working it in & rubbing, but it will come off! JoJoe's bruising from the EP test was really nasty-looking. I feel for you, having the EP test and then the implant one right after the other -- no wonder you're feelin all beat up! Take care, and follow the doc's suggestions - you'll be feeling lots better soon!

Nah, he's been my brother for his whole life, I expect this stuff. And as a matter of fact the surgery was supposed to save what hearing remained in my right ear, but it finished it off instead - which was one of the risks of the surgery. The surgery did, however, remove the acoustic neuroma, and I don't have to worry about it causing more problems as it grew.

WHAT will take that "sticky" off!?
I finally had to use nail polish remover.

MEMO: Do NOT look in the mirror with shirt OFF!
Phred: the first time I looked in the mirror at my 12 inch incision in my back I nearly fainted. Fortunately I had dissolving stitches instead of staples but there are still three little tapes that are still there. I've managed to pull the other ones off but these three seem like they've built a home on my back. :D Besides, there are in a spot where I can't reach them so will have to wait until some willing person wants to do the nasty deed.

Glad your are feeling a bit better but please, take it phrom me....take it easy and don't push it. Recovery will be slow.....that's something you just can't control right now.

{{{hugs}}} to you and kisses to the furbabies.
Glad that Bowser Mutt was found.

I've got Phred on my mind again!!!

I had to do a lot a diggin to find his Phred/thread~ ;) I didn't mention that "Skin So Soft" can remove a lot of those left over adhesives ;)

Just wondering how you are ~ :o

:D :D I tend to think that Gini suggested WD40, because she didn't immediately think that Phred would have Skin so Soft, nail polish remover, or baby oil lying around the house! Does Klam juz work???

How are you, Phred? We haven't heard for a few days?

Phred how are you doing? I had to come back to this thread not only to check on you, but to find out how to get that darned sticky stuff off too! Unlike you, I DO have nail polish remover and when I do my nails this afternoon, I'll also do some removing on my abdomen - that stuff sure is stubborn! :p

Phred, I'd think again before using WD-40. ;) Try denatured alcohol, not the stuff you clean your windows with!

So glad to hear the Buzz Box is working right! Try not to challenge it too much - and keep your left arm DOWN!! I know it must be hard not to be able to=allowed to go out and start the engine, but healing and getting better comes first. :)

It's quite a trial of patience they're putting you through, but follow doc's orders and heal faster, please! :)

Any chance you could get one of the nurses to come round and help wiff the bathing?

Sending lots of positive vibes for a speedy recovery. Get better soon!

Phred, I'd think again before using WD-40.

The Sticky Stuff ?

http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/tongue.gif I gave up on it ... wear a long-sleeved shirt and don't look inna mirror!
And close my eyes in the shower.

How many flavours of "Alcohol" are there? Tried "rubbing" = just felt cold -
no anti-sticky properties that I could detect.
Sticky Stuff even resisted Ciggy Lighter Fluid - so I figgured WD-40 wouldn't help either ...
but I do keep forgetting to try it.

As for " ... get one of the nurses to come round and help wiff the bathing?"

Prolly 25 years ago that would have seemed like a neet / phunn idea ...
Now Daze ... not such a great idea. http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/frown.gif

And how AM I / How do I FEEL??

I seem to be always tired / worn out / no energy / breathless http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/frown.gif - but
Firefighter Wife Shirley said it took several months after her Buzz Box was
installed for her to notice any improvement in how she felt.
So I guess there's hope! http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/wink.gif

KLAM JUZE ?

YUP - still gotta Jug inna ice-a-box ... Haz-Mat Guys wouldn't touch it ...
anna Bomb Squad said they were too bizzie ...
I keep hopin the Maid will have it for lunch some day.

WAIT a minnit ... Karla Klamz got here before Bowser did ...
HE never tried Klam Juze ...

Hi Phred:
Good to see you posting and I know about that sticky stuff. I still have some on my back that I can't reach. Nail polish remover really does work but for me....well, it's too embarrassing to ask someone to remove it for me. :o Like you, I'll let the shower do the trick....hopefully.

Take it easy and rest when you need to. Bowzer...stay away from that dreaded Klam Juz.

Phred, as for the sticky stuff, anything that will remove chewing gum should work. ;)

I hope your “bruises" aren’t painful. As soon as they start to ich, it means healing!! My mom always said so.

WARNING!! Don’t go near the fridge with any of that lighter gas!! You don’t need an explosion and another heart attack!! .... Btw, is Boots sniffing around there, or is he staying well out the way? ;) :D

"OH, BOWSER! C'mere a minnit, Bub ... try this ..."
Cinder & Smoke, you know what your dad is up to now, don't you - you've got to be on your toes and rescue Bowser from this awful stuff!! and if you see Boots fainted in front of it, could you do me favor and carry him gently to the recliner, or another soft spot?

Phred, I'm sorry your energy level is low - if only I could give you some. :) I'd need a refill myself though. It will take a bit of time before you feel up to much anything, so try to be patient ... yes, I know it's difficult. :(

Thanks for mentioning John, I know he "adored" you (in lack of a better word). Yes, John introduced Karla ... and a few other funny caracters. I miss him terribly too!! :( He saved all his "stuff" from PT, including pics, so if any are missing somewhere, I have them here.

Take good care of yourself, and let your friends spoil you, I'm sure they love doing it - I would! :)

Lots of ((((((hugs))))) ... and headbumpies from Fister

I'm sure it has warnings to not let it get on your skin but I used so little so quickly and washed it off fast so no problems.

It removed dried paint off my baseboard too.

Goo Gone is a wonderful thing. We've used it a lot and, as a matter of fact, Terry just dug it out for me to use today. However....I'm using it on the shower....not my body. ;)

But it doesn't say anything about not using it on skin, so I say have at it and I'm sure it'll get the stickies right off!

Glad to hear you're feeling relatively better Phred, and hoping each day you feel better and stronger!

PS - Goo Gone can be found at any hardware store. I don't know if Wally world carries it.

EDIT - Since I've got the bottle right here, here's what the "caution" says:

Contains Petroleum distillates. Avoid prolonged contact with skin.

Aww Phred good to see you posting. My sticky stuff finally just wore off. Now I'm at the itchy stage, which I hear is a good thing. Just wish it didn't itch so danged much! For all of us healing - let's keep up the good work.

But, if it were me, I'd use it !!! ;)
