I just talked to a friend in Texas the other night and she was telling me that she just paid 1.94.9 a gallon for gasoline.

I just got gas for the car today and I paid 2.65.9...............

What are gas prices around the country now - and why am I paying so much more than Texas????

Yes, stupid question, I realize!

It's around $2.29 here in Tucson. I would think that gas is more expensive in CA because it's expensive to live there, the gas stations pay higher rent and taxes so that adds to the cost of the product. I've even noticed around town that the more expensive area of town will charge $2.40 and it's $2.25 on the bad parts of town.

I think some of it has to do with state gas taxes, and a lot to do with what the market will bear, and proximity to ports and refineries. I paid $2.17 a gallon for regular tonight, but could have paid $2.45 a gallon for regular less than three miles away, and probably more if I looked harder.

We are still at 2.65 in Utah too. Our taxes are rediculous as well, plus they like to just rob us blind when they can. Why lower it? They know we will pay it, we have to.

I saw it for $2.12 the other day. I would love to see it under a dollar!

Gini, here in Pittsburgh, Pa the lowest price is $2.15 a gallon. Pennsylvania love to put taxes on gasoline.

It depends on which direction I go. I go to the east end of Midland (30 minutes from my house) its $2.07 a gallon, and if I go to somewhere else its like $2.15-$2.20

This is how much is added per gallon with just STATE taxes.
For example, CA pays 18 cents and Oregon 24 cents extra per gallon

I paid $1.93/gal this week. Gini, I read a report that we have the lowest gas prices in the country. I have no idea why, though!

Regional gas prices have such a wide cost difference based on local taxes and the local economy.

Gas in my neck of the woods is running at about $2.20.

So, how much is a gallon of milk in California?

Here in Branson its about $2.19 on average, but up near St. Charles/St. Louis its closer to $1.91. Then again Branson is a major tourist town so that's why they feel the need to jack up prices... but, hey, anything is better than $3.10 a gallon we were paying!!

It's $2.46 cash price at the station at the corner ($2.51 if you pay via credit card) but if I travel just a few miles in any direction it's about $2.65-$2.73.

Here in Northwest Indiana, it is between $2.06 and $2.19 per gallon. That was this morning when I came into work. Now last night when I went home from work, it was between $2.07 and $2.22 per gallon!

At the first of the week, it was about $1.99 per gallon, give or take a few cents!

I am constantly amazed at how the price of gas can change 20 cents in a matter of minutes!

Since the car is still broken I haven't driven since June but did notice the cost of gas as the bus went by a station yesterday. It was $2.19 for unleaded here. :)

It varies a lot here in Lexington, KY.

In one direction off campus, it's at $2.18. In the other, it's $1.94. I think it's the actual area that makes it differ, but nonetheless, I got it at $1.94!

The cheapest I've seen it in CT this week is $2.35.9/gallon.

the price of gasoline varies from area to area due to a number of factors. First and foremost, gasoline is a commodity. The price varies according to the price on the commodities market, which can vary greatly day to day.

The second major factor is the delivery zone. The main factor here is the distance from the pipeline terminal that the gasoline is coming from.

The third varying factor is state taxes. For instance, in Mass the gas tax is a fixed rate, (x number of cents per gallon), while in NY it varies, as it is a percentage of the purchase price, just like a sales tax.

Federal taxes are fixed.

Only after all those factors are taken in does the station owner affect the price, and they tend (with major exceptions) to keep the price of gas as low as a profit margin would allow, because they want you to come in to the store for coffee, etc. (the exception would be the fool in Binghamton who is 40-50 cents higher than his competition across the street)

Here it's $2.20-something. I just got off the phone with my sister-in-law and she was telling me that she paid $1.90-something in Tennessee.

It's around $2.45 here.

I wonder why prices are suddenly being lowered before November elections?

Because there was just a major oil field found in US waters which sent the price of oil futures into the tank. ($20+ per barrel drop in about 2 weeks, mostly the day after the new field was announced)

Proximity to a refinery doesn't always influence gas prices; we're paying approximately $2.79/gal (high grade) and we have several refineries near us (closest being about 9-10 miles).

I guess I'm the odd one out, I don't mind paying the "high" prices as oil is the economy out here. (I would debate that they're actually not that high, it seems to me we were long over due an increase.)

The lowest I've seen it around here has been $2.43 for regular and it's been going down each week. I sure hope it continues to get cheaper.:)

Around here, I've seen it as low as 2.17, and up to about 2.35. I wish it would go under $2.00, at least! :D

Saw the big $1.99.9 sign on the way to the Husky Hike today!

I Asked the Muttz - "Didja SEE that?"

We turned left stedda right - pulled into the CITGO Station at I-76 and OH-14 -
town of Edinburg, OH.

Even the Pump read $1.99.9 - and there was a bit of a "crowd".
Managed to *squeeze* in about 10 gallons ... wish I had a couple of portable tanks
along at that price!

Everywhere else - closer to and farther from Cleveland - the lowest price I
saw anywhere else all day was $2.05.9.

Remember when $0.99 seemed like Highway Robbery!??
