How fast does your dog eat?

How fast does your dogs eat? Of course, this won't be very accurate, because some dogs have smaller mouths than others and some dogs eat different food. This will probably only be even for kibble, but if you wish to add non-kibble consuming dogs, that's fine too. ;)

I am quite curious because I always think Jenny eats really fast, but I've never compared her to anything. We can measure in SPC- Seconds per cup. Jenny's 1/2 cup takes her 10 seconds, So Jenny eats 20 SPC.

I would add a poll, but I can't figure out how. :o :confused: If anyone knows how, feel free to add one.

Jada eats very fast. She gulps her food. Diamond takes her time she eats farily slow. Then theres Ebony. I have never seen a dog eat so slow in my life. ;)

Jen doesn't chew hers either. She just stuffs it into her mouth and flips her head back and wait for it to fall back. :rolleyes:

I've never timed my dogs, but the fastest eater is Vallis, followed by Adele, and Marta is last. I can literally put the bowl down, turn around and look back and Vallis is all done with his meal (he gets about 3/4 cup twice a day). :rolleyes:

Marta used to turn her nose up at food until we put her on a diet (she was getting bit chubby). Now she never does, but she's still a slow eater.

Kodie takes about 10 minutes to eat his.
Lucy wont start eating her dinner until Kodies finished his.She usually takes about 15 minutes once she starts.

Until we had a second dog, it would take Star a couple days to finish her food. No kidding, really! Once a second dog joined the family, she would eat it over a couple hours. Now she usually lets it sit a while and then eats it very slowly over an hour. She carries a couple pieces of kibble at a time from her bowl to another spot, drops them and crunches them one at a time. :eek: We're amazed.

Sherman doesn't waste any time. A few minutes and he's done. Then he sits several feet away from Star and stares at her until she eats hers too. She's got him trained not to mess with her food :mad: !

Sassy takes at least 24 hours to eat all the kibble in her bowl. Sometimes it lasts several days. Her wet food is down in less then 30 seconds. :rolleyes: When we give her turkey, steak, or chicken she doesn't even chew it! :eek:

Tango takes about 25-25mins to eat her dinner, and about 10mins to eat her breakfast. Tia never finishes hers, we pick it up when Tango is finished. Winston is finished in about 5 minutes, but he does chew the kibbles. Morgan takes about 7mins, as she takes her time by drinking some of the water in her bowl before she eats any of the kibbles. My family has never had a gulper, they've all chewed their food.

Gonzo eats his 1 cup of kibble within a few minutes.

Fozzie eats his 1 cup immediately! I have to put it in a Kong & freeze it, or put it in his molecule ball, or he will inhale it. Like, in under 10 seconds, and I don't want to risk him choking or bloating.

Very slowly. We free feed so there's always food down and we have zero issues with food. No one over eats and no one inhales their food.

Sadie sometimes takes hours and has been known to take days to eat her food. Now that she is older and has kidney disease I have to make sure she eats. I guess her eating habits are due to her submissive personality. Sometimes it seems she looks for permission to eat and she'd prefer my husband not be around. I don't really know the rules of her game but at least she's eating enough.

Very slowly!!
When I put down their food, it normally doesn't get touched for a few minuets.
Then Bud will come over and start eating. He's a walking eater!
He'll take a mouth full and walk a few steps away and eat it, then go back and repeat the process! :rolleyes:
Sierra takes all night to finish her food!
She'll start eating when Bud's eating, then she'll walk away, then when I go to bed, she'll eat a little more and I'll hear her eating during the night too!
Oh everything she does is full of DRAMA! :D

-Jake, Nacey, and Charlie inhale their food, it's gone within 30 seconds.
-Nova takes a little longer, but not too long, I'd guess it takes her about 2 minutes.
-Buster and Bitsy are both slow eaters and sometimes don't finish, they usually get about an hour after that if it's not eaten I take it up.

We leave dry food out for Snowy all day. Sometimes it can take 2 days for a dish of food to be finished. She tends to nibble on it all day.

Misty-very fast, her non bone meals she practicly inhales, and her softer bones usually take her about 30 seconds, harder bones it only takes a few minuts to get off the meat but they could munch the bones for hours.

Happy-slow, by far the slowest eater and normally does not finnish at all, chicken and turkey are the only things she always finnishes and that takes her maybe 10-15 minutes. she just is not interested in eating lol

Electra-depends what it is, her bones she is pretty quick about but her non bone meals she is slower then Happy, just because she is not used to the veggies in some of the meals yet

Ripley-moters he is usually the 3rd last to get his food and the first finnished lol

Perky-only slightly slower then Ripley

Blair-non bone meals he is very fast maybe 10-15 seconds, but bones he is very slow, he usually stops partway through and asks to finnsh it outside.

Beanie takes all day to eat so i just leave his food in the garage. Gracie eats like i starve her. :rolleyes:

Cinder has always been a rapid eater but not a <gulper>.
When Smokey arrived, Cinder picked up the pace a bit, but still chews her Krunchies.

Ho-Boy - what a <gobbler>!
He arrived half-starved - and it took a couple weeks to but some beef on his little frame
and start to hide his ribs ... but he still acted like he hadn't seen food for a month!
He'd have the first mouthful <inhaled> before I finished pouring into his bowl;
all gone before I straightened up. This can't be good for his tummy.

We spent a few meals HAND-feeding - ONE Krunchie piece at a time.
It slowed him down a little. He was also a lil <grabby> ... as I'd approach
his bowl to fill it - he reach up with both paws - managed to dump Krunchies all over
the floor more times than I cared for.
Lesson #2 was he had to SIT before I poured his meal;
and WAIT for the pouring to be finished;
next a SHAKE (RIGHT Paw ONLY) while SITting AND giving Dad a <smootch> ...
THEN he's told to <gobble up>. He now manages to <chew> at least some of each meal.

Bowz wasn't starving when he was rescued - but he thought otherwise!
He'd CHARGE the measuring cup as I tried to pour it ... <CHOMPIN> as he came!
We spilled a lot, and I was always in fear of loosing some fingers.
For all his eagerness to get started, he <chewed> quite a lot - just never came up for air once he got started.
Almost into our Second Year - he's mellowed just a bit ... I can pour his Krunchies
without fear of loosing fingers to flailing jaws ... and he seems to take slightly smaller Bytes.

He has no competition (his bowl is on the bathroom vanity - safely out of Dog reach) -
so he's a slow and careful <muncher>.

Daisy gulps her food. She can eat a large chicken breast in about 5 seconds. A chicken leg quarter takes longer b/c of the tearing involved and the bones. Maybe 1 minute 1/2 on that.

daisy eats about 4 cups a day as she is a very hyper dog and she just nibbles hear and there. i put 2 cups in with her last night and she still had some this morning.

Cincy is our woofer. We make all the dogs sit and wait until everyone is served before they start eating. This is partially becuase Cincy would be done before the other dogs even got their food, and then try to take theirs.

Sadie used to eat super fast. When she was a puppy she got sick a few times becuase she would eat so fast. She has slowed down some (partially using the one piece at a time Phred mentioned), but not a lot.

Spot is our slow eater/wanderer. He likes to take a few pieces, wander out to the living room, see what is going on. Carry a few more pieces here or there. We have to watch the girls, cause they are ready to move in a steal his food, and he'd just walk away and let them.

My collies INHALE thier food. Steele on the otherhand just looks at it and its gone.

Molly and Prince inhale their food. Within seconds, it's all gone. I have to keep them away from Astra's bowl because she eats so slowly. She will get a mouthful of kibbles, run to the living room, drop them and then start playing with them. Then after 5 minutes of wooing and scratching at the kibble, she will go get another mouthful and repeat the process.

Finn takes about a minute and a half to eat a chicken leg quarter...Freckles and Dudley take about forty seconds to eat their meals of kibble. Dudley gets just under 1/2 cup at each meal, and, Freckles gets just over 1/2 cup. They definitely eat quickly, but, not so much that I worry about them.
***My friend has to dump her dog's kibble all over the floor so that he doesn't inhale it!***
