View Full Version : Prayers for Blizzard.

Blizzard (Precious) my white foster lady cat is having surgery this Wednesday.

We discovered a lump near her rectum on Friday. Just a bit smaller than a ping pong ball.

She will be having it removed and biopsied, but the vet seemed worried.
(Precious went to the vet with another volunteer, so I was not there to ask a lot of questions)

So all we can do is to pray for the best.

We love you Precious Blizzard.

Dear Blizzard....hope all is well, and that even if it's a bad lump, that they get everything!

Hugs to you and your worried Meowmie.

The lump they removed was cancer. :( :(

This was the message relayed to me:

the tumor was successfully removed and there was clean tissue on the tissue edges.....
meaning they THINK they got it all...

However, Dr W cautioned that if even one cell was missed it will pop up in another part of her body...

This message was received via voice mail, so we still actuall need to TALK to the vet to see what is our next step. Will there be routine testing? How can we monitor her "condition"?

I will let you know when I know.

orangemm
09-28-2006, 01:43 PM
But don't they always say that, whether animal or human? I want Blizzard to be okay and I will keep praying for her recovery and freedom from the dreaded "C".

(Let's hope they got every single bit)

kimlovescats
09-28-2006, 02:26 PM
Oh Jen, I'm sorry that was the diagnosis ... but if they think they got it all, then chances are they did!!! We'll hope and pray for the best! ;)

Hugs to you, Jen. This isn't the outcome any of us wanted to hear. My prayers continue for Blizzard that there are no residual cells. Of course you need to talk to your vet in much more detail about the prognosis. Prayers for you that the answers will be what you so desperately want to hear. Please keep us posted?

Catty1
09-28-2006, 07:18 PM
Even if they got it all, they will keep tabs on her for a while.

With any luck, if it was a slow-growing tumour, then time is on Blizzard's side.

Is she her normal self? Eating, playing, etc?

Prayers and hugs!

jenluckenbach
09-28-2006, 07:49 PM
Blizzard is definitely active and playful and as sweet as ever.

I am not too sure it would be a "slow growing tumor" though considering how it wasn't there and then all of a sudden, WOW-what is THAT?!?!

Catty1
09-28-2006, 07:56 PM
Glad to hear she is playing and all.

Apparently vets have a way of telling if a tumour is slow growing or not...how they tell, I haven't a clue!

I hope your vet has positive news for you! :)

HUGS!

Good to hear! Tumors are a tricky thing. When my grandparents dog had one, it was very small at the beginning of the month; about the size of a quarter. The vet said not too worry too much yet. By the next week, it was the size of a grapefruit.

Not a good report about Precious (Blizzard)

The foster mom who had her to the vet for surgery finally got to speak to the vet....

I saw Dr W in her office today...
> > Blizzard has a sarcoma that is rare in cats.
> > It has a very long name that I can not remember.
> >
> > She said if Blizzard is adopted the adopter needs to be
> > made aware that this cancer could very well come back.
> > It is a malignant cancer.

So I think we should continue to keep her in our prayers.

Unfortunatley, I don't know. But I may be able to find out when the written report goes to our president.

A hemangiosarcoma is basically a cancer of the lining of the blood vessels, so it is not a solid tumour like Blizzard has.

The one thing I do know about Blizzard's tumor is that it was SOLID!
Prior to its removal the vet tried to aspirate (I believe that would be the correct term) and no liquid came out of it.

She sure is doing well now, though. ;) Thank God I SAW the tumor!

She is SOOO pretty!

I pray that she is healthy from now on.

Jen - did the vet suggest maybe an ultrasound once a year or anything just to keep an eye out?

hugs and scritchies to Blizzard.

I forget, how old is Blizzard? I have had two cats go through chemo and they did well. I'm not sure if that's an option for Blizzard (depends on a lot of things.) FWIW, cats seem to tolerate chemo quite well (based on vet advice and my large data set of...two.) Pink Nose didn't even lose a whisker.

jenluckenbach

She is young, not sure but 1 or 2 years?? No one mentioned if that was a necessity or an option.
