YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!!!!!!!!!!!!

My first PT pet introduction, and not one, not two, but THREE beautiful gerbil girls! Yes, it was time for another pet, and myself and my brother finally conviced our parents on gerbils. We were originally setting out for two, but these three were the last left of their litter, so we had all three. Their names are Morning Twilight, Ebony Energy and Deadly Nightshade, or just Twilight, Ebony and Nightshade. So, without further ado, onto pics and a video! Sorry the pics aren't too good, my flash on my camera has gone crazy, and as it's their first day we don't want to disturb them too much http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/wink.gif

Ebony : The Hyperactive one. Ebony has already discovered that she can reach speeds of 90mph on her wheel http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/tongue.gif

Nightshade : The sleepy one. Well, she would sleep a lot more if her sisters didn't jump on her all the time!

Twilight : The Digger. Within minutes of arrival, Twilight already managed to shift about a handful of shavings out the cage onto the floor!

Ebony gives Twilight the routine tail inspection.

Video in next post!

And of course, here's a little video. The gerbil you see most of is Ebony, at the end she tries to jump on top of the little house, but I just pressed the button just as she fell off. Ah well, I'm sure Ebony will be the entertainer and provide me with plenty more camera gold moments. http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/biggrin.gif

Hope you all enjoyed! Boy, I am so happy!http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/biggrin.gif http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/biggrin.gif http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/biggrin.gif

Congratulations!! They're all so very beautiful. I've been thinking about buying a lone gerbil that has been at a petstore for months and months.. but I'm unsure if I should. :/
Your three are absolutely gorgeous! And they look to give you plenty of entertainment. =D

Thanks a lot everyone! Ebony still hasn't settled down yet, in between her spouts of vigourous wheel-running, she entertains herself by jumping on her sisters who are trying to sleep! Needless to say, they squeak a lot at her :p

Ebony's also the bravest one, I've had my hand in the cage for a few minutes and she's quite happy to jump all over it, whereas Twilight and Nightshade need a little coaxing. ;)

And, of course, Tia is pretty horrified!!! I took her into my brother's room so she could just look at them, and she froze, then gave me this look which clearly said, ' Oh my gosh, HOW COULD YOU?' :p She's giving me the cold shoulder a little and gnaws my knuckles as if she's teaching me a lesson. I'm sure she'll come round in time. ;)

Oh, I also forgot to mention how to tell them apart, other than their personalities. Twilight has one white front paw and a smudge of white on her nose and under her chin. Ebony's front paws are both half-white and she has a lot more white under her chin. Nightshade has one front paw half-white, whilst the other paw has an unusual circle-like pattern of white, and she has a perfect line of white under her chin.

OMG! They are so cute!!! :D
I love your gerbils, they remind me so much of my RB gerbils Chocolate and Brownie.
You did a good job getting photos of all 3 of them and a video too.
It is so hard to take good photos of black gerbils because they are so dark and gerbils are so hyper in general.
You will have so much fun with them.
I did the same thing that you do to tell them apart, by looking at the amount of white on their paws.
Of course when they are all curled up together sleeping it will be hard to tell them apart but their unique personalities will help keep you from getting them confused most of the time. ;)
Congratulations on your cute new additions and let me know if I can help you with any gerbil info. :)

Thanks a lot everyone! They're so friendly, and I've just been able to hold Nightshade, who is the most nervous one, for the first time today!

Thanks Vermontcat for the offer of helping :) and I remember seeing Chocolate and Brownie as POTD, they were such adorable little fluff-bundles.

Thanks!

Just a little update, they're all doing really well now, they all enjoy being picked up and they have begun to jump on my hand rather than me having to catch them. They are pretty wriggly to hold but managable, and they are so lightweight! After I've held one of the gerbils, Tia seems to weigh an awful lot more :p and she looks huge against them.

They are chewing and digging a lot though, not that we didn't expect that, but I suppose as there's 3 of them everything is 3x what we expected! We've removed several ladders and toys as they've chewed them to almost nothing, and if we give them a kitchen roll to play with, it's shredded completely in the space of 20 minutes. They have a huge wood chew and a special 'chew-tube', but they seem to prefer to chew the things they shouldn't chew ;) We're thinking about getting them a glass or plastic gerbilarium, at the moment they are in Foxy's old cage, which is plenty big enough, but I don't think it's deep enough to satisfy their digging.

Their petsters are up and running too. I plan to take more pics of them in the future, just they aren't the easiest things in the world to take pics of as they never sit still! :D

Glad to hear that they are doing so well! :D Mine are feisty and I *still* have to attempt to get them as only Rota will jump on my hand. heh.

You're probably right about the deeper gerbilarium. Some gerbils prefer to have some really deep ones. I, don't know why because I planned on doing this as well, never bookmarked some but if you do a google search then you could probably come up with some nifty ideas. I will edit my post if I find anything good! :D

Edit: http://exoticpets.about.com/library/howto/htgerbilcage.htm This is a pretty good one. Then, http://exoticpets.about.com/od/gerbils/ , their main area, has some good things. I have the gerbil colour pallette bookmarked, though.

Thanks for the sites Angelique, they were really informative. We have seen a gerbilarium which is pretty deep in a store near us, however, it's only suitable for 2 gerbils. It seems like there isn't a middle size, it goes from 2 gerbils homes to massive great glass aquarium things which would be murder to clean out. I'm sure we'll find something soon though :)

Oh, and I have seen the gerbil colour pallette too, so many pretty varieties! ;)
