I promised myself that I would let Melissa (Doolittleky) start this thread, but I'm so very, very excited that I had to start one myself.

In a few hours Melissa will head out to Ohio to pick up Beans for me from Sierra's Haven for New and Used Pets. I adopted him several weeks ago, but attempts to use the truckers network to get him to me have so far failed, and using Kitty Hawk Cargo would have meant that someone had to take him to Indianna first. Melissa has been telling me for weeks that she would like to foster him until he can come to me and so, unable to bear the thought of him continuing to be behind bars at the haven any longer, I said "yes, please".

Some of you may remember that Beans was one of the special needs cats that Melissa posted last month. He was born without elbow joints and hobbles around on his back legs.

I'm sure that Melissa will post lots of photos of him as soon as she can - I certainly hope so because it shows that he is one step closer to being home with me. I am almost in tears here at work, again, because he is getting closer to being with me and I really long to have him with me, I have from the moment I first saw his photo on PetFinder.

Anyone flying soon from Kentucky to Seattle?!

I can understand the waiting stuff in Feb I couldn't find a way excepyt to drive to Indianna to get Tyson from Lute. At least kitty would be able to fly. Crate needed for Ty was to big for the smaller planes at each end of the journey.

What great news Lizzie!!!!! I am so glad that Melissa is going to get him. I'd have been a zombie knowing that my little guy was in a shelter, no matter how nice it was. I know he will blossom once he is in a real home. I know you are going to miss that, but just knowing he is safe will help to ease some of that pain. Can't wait to see his pictures! /mari

Thank you for the update, Katie. I'm working late and keep checking in to see if Melissa has posted anything - although I know she may not be home yet and has to go a friend's to use a computer. I'm very glad to hear that he isn't a nervous cat and likes to charm people since that will make his trucking trip easier on him. Oh! I want him now! But Melissa deserves to enjoy him for a few weeks for picking him up for me. I wonder what her cats are going to think of him?

~DOING A HAPPY DANCE~!! I'm so happy to hear that Beans is safe and will soon have his much deserved forever home. Start padding your rooms Lizzie..if he can jump with relative ease (which I'm sure he can) the impact of the fall can be painful if he hits a hard surface. Kirby (and my dear RB Willy) both use thick dog mats with washable cover. I call them "crash pads" lol! Here's a picture of Kirby as a youngster lounging on his crash pad.

Stairs are very dangerous as well to a radial aplasia kitty. In time Beans will show you what he's capable of. ;) Now Melissa...we need pictures! :D

Beans has entered the building!!!! The drive was a little loner than Mapquest said but we made it up to Ohio to fetch Beans late yesterday afternoon. Michelle brought him out in my carrier. When I got him to the car he jsut meowed a few times and then settled in for the long ride home. He is really laid back and it doen't seem like much bothers him so him riding in a truck will not be a problem. He was so good. When we stopped I got him out and held him and it was like he knew me his whole life. He wanted to cuddle and loves loves to be petted! He is much cuter than the petfinder pic. he has a long face , reminds me of an Oriental and is Buff and white. In the petfinder pic he looked just Buff to me. It was late when I got home, so I settled Beans in the bathroom and then fed the gang. I sat with beans awhile and took some pics. This morning he crawled up into my lap and just wanted to be petted and petted. He is eating and has urinated but no poop yet. His ears are dirty so I am going to clean them out. They are itching some too so I might have to have them checked. He is so cute when he goes to the litter box. To pee he lays almost all the way down in the litter box., and then he tries to cover it up with his front paw that looks like a chicken wing. he has some pads and nails which have been getting caught a little. I was thinking I should trim them but he doesn't want them touched at all and bite me not to break skin but to let me know he didn't want this front legs touched. he is so adaptable and already acts like he has been here forever. And now for the pics........

Thats inspirational that you were willing to go taht far out of your way to pick up Beans, and bring him to his New Furr Ever Home.
We just know that Beans will thrive there and soon be a Big Healthy Companion.
God Bless You for giving Beans a chance.

Melissa - I'm sorry that I wasn't around, I was doing a lot of cleaning. I developed a very bad case of contact dermatitis from some of the cleaning products I used when I found out Cattulus had ringworm and now that the skin has nearly finished peeling off the back of my hands (they look as though I've got 2nd degree burns), I can go back to the cleaning again. I could barely curve my hands enough to type, let alone hold a cleaning tool for nearly two weeks. Anyway, enough of that.

I'm glad that all went well with your trip, even though it took more time than you expected. How wonderful that Beans is such a calm cat, which made the trip easier on you all. Thank you for doing this for both me and Beans. And thank you for the photographs which show him far more clearly than the shelter photos. He has a lovely face that is both gentle and intelligent.

Please do take him to the vet for an ear check (I can see they are dirty in the photos and am surprised the clinic didn't do anything about them), and perhaps they can clip his claws if you find that they are creating a problem for him. We'll pm about finances separately. Did Michelle give you his medical records?

When are you thinking of introducing him to your bedroom cats? I've changed things around today so that I have a front bedroom for him upstairs. There is a thick carpet in front of low boxes that are in front of a love seat for him. He can get up into the window from there. You can let me know how much he can jump since Queen S. says this is something we must watch. Hopefully he can't jump up onto my chest of drawers. As Q.S. says, Beans will show us what he can do.

Yay Beans! Hello young man, you look like one cutie cat!
it won't be long now before you're taken to your fuurever home and will live happily ever after with somebody who'll love you for eternity :)
Lizzie I hope your hands recover soon from the dermatitis, sounds nasty.
Best wishes coming your way for a speedy recovery.

Lizzie - was it you that has an allergy to latex? Did you ever find latex-free medical (or other kind) gloves?

I hope your poor hands will stay well after this!
