I'm in a talking kind of mood so I thought I'd share with you how I got my Travis.

I was wanting another dog (a Rottweiler to be exact) to to agility with and to be my companion. I talked to my dad and he agreed to let me get another dog, however, because of our insurance I couldn't get a Rottweiler. He told me to do some research and find the right breed for me. After some research I thought maybe I'd like an Australian Shepherd. Before I got around to telling my dad about Aussies, I remembered how gorgeous German Shepherds were. I did more research and decided that was the breed for me. My dad agreed on the breed and I set out to find my GSD puppy.

I found an ad in the paper for GSD puppies. (Lets not get into those details, Im aware that I made a mistake and should have gone to a reputable breeder)
I went to look at the puppies and immediatly fell in love with one. The moment I set eyes on him I felt a connection. He was by far the cutest one there. He had the best markings (The others puppies had washed out tan, but his was very rich). He had one ear up and one ear down. (The GSD ear cycle is adorable) I asked the man about him and he said that puppy wasn't for sale. Apparently, he was "pick of the litter". I was very dissapointed. There was another puppy there that was almost as cute, but I didn't feel a connection. I kept asking the man about the first puppy until he gave in and let me play with him. While I was playing with the puppy, my grandma talked the man into letting me buy the pup.
I called my parents and got the ok so we headed home.

When we got home I led him around the backyard. Every time I would stop he would come up to me and beg me to pick him up. He loved me already. :D
After a nice introduction to the other two dogs we went in my room to do some homework. My dad came home an hour later and came to check out the new pup. After examining him, he concluded that I had made a good decision. ;)

What do you think?

I remember that all like it was just yesterday, even though it was a year and 3 months ago.

My baby at about 5 months old

He is now 1 year and 5 months old.
I still feel that same connection every time I look at him. He is my constant companion and never leaves my side. Every where I go, he follows. (He's standing next to me as I type :D )
He is extrememly intelligent and very easy to train. He picks up on new things within a few days. I've done all of his training myself and have had very few problems. He does amazing off leash. His recall is awesome. (I think it has a lot to do with how attached he is to me, he never wants to be too far from me).

Here he is now at 1 year and 5 months

My friend often tells me that she can tell how much he loves me just by the way he looks at me.

I can't imagine life without my Travy. :)

I feel like I left a lot out.

Thank you for reading. :)

Great story, and I can see how you fell in love with him, that face and those ears!! What a cutie! I too made the mistake of getting a pup from an ad in the newspaper, but I love my Nebo boy so much I can't regret doing that (though I know better for next time...I'd like to get a rescue). Travis is VERY handsome! :)

Thats my situation as well. :) I don't regret it because he is such a great dog and I love him dearly, but I won't make the same "mistake" in the future.

Travis is VERY handsome! :)

Thank you :D

Nebo is very handsome as well! ;)

what a great story! I can really tell how much Travis means to you, and i can relate. Theres is nothing like the bond between a dog and its owner. Travis was an absolutly ADORABLE puppy, and has grown into such a handsome young man!

I can reall tell how much Travis means to you, and i can relate.

Travis is close to a life saver. He's been there through some very rough patches in my life. Always there to cuddle with me if I'm feeling down. ;)

Aw, what a nice story. Travis is a very handsome boy. I think even if you had gone to rescue, you and Travis would have found each other. It sounds like you have a very special bond.

I forgot to add in the story that I had another GSD puppy before I got Travis, but we had to get rid of him (not my decision :( ) I think that Bear (my first GSD pup) also had a big influence on my decision to get another German Shepherd. For the brief time I had Bear I found out how wonderful the breed was.

Here's a picture of Bear with Katy

Bear was also very attached to me. My dad wasn't too happy with that because Bear was supposed to be his dog.
If I left the room and didn't take him with me he would sit there crying until I came back for him (That drove my parents nuts).
It's been over a year since we gave Bear back but I still miss him sometimes.
