We have this thread on another forum I visit and it's a lot of fun to see what people are buying. ;) Especially if it's something cute and you want to get it too! :p

Cute stuff! I love the bag and leather collar. My latest purchase was food so it's already in and out. But I am a Land's end freak and wait for their end of season sales, especially tank tops.

I like that collar, I think I'll see if they've got them at my Old Navy. It looks really nice and $10 for a leather collar is a steal.

Mostly I have been taken advantage of summer end sales to get things for my new grandson and Jasmine. Bought tons of stuff for him to wear next summer since he won't be getting any hand-me-downs. Jasmine gets things from my great-neice - some have hardly been worn. But Grandma still has to buy for Jasmine - she is just too cute not to.

I bought myself a new pair of purple Nike's. Can't resist that purple!

Poor dogs haven't gotten anything new lately. Except the rawhide that they HAVE to have to keep them busy and out of trouble. - Oh wait, we did by the car harnesses for the Snoopy, Taggert and Pippi - our three can't-sit-still pups. Pippi and Snoopy especially were always trying to jump into the front seat especially as we got close to the dog park. So know they have to wear seat belts. Haven't bought them yet for Dazzi and Jack as they ususally stay where they are.

Mostly I have been taken advantage of summer end sales to get things for my new grandson and Jasmine. New grandson? Congratulations! I must have missed the thread with that news! I recently bought a really cute baby outfit for my friend's new grandson, little overalls with a lion on the front and a little camouflage t-shirt, very cute! It's been a long time since I got to buy baby-clothes. :)

Lets see.... this morning I spent $5 on a dozen day-old bagels and cream cheese. That was fun because I haven't splurged on "Take-out" food in a while. That wuill be my breakfast, lunch, and dinner for a few days.

I spent $50 on prescription medicatons yesterday.

$38 on gas to fill my car Saturday

$100 for groceries. Friday

Fun purchases? I fogret what a fun purchase is. I'm too focused on purchases that help us survive.

Oh, speaking of survival, I spent $3 on baby pacifiers 2 weeks ago... thats life saving because otherwise everyone here would be killing themselves rather than listening to a baby scream for hours on end. He's screaming right now and keeps spitting the $*!# pacifier out.

When I was down South visiting a few weeks ago, I went on a major shopping spree. I had to mail a box to myself as I couldn't fit everything in my suitcase!

I bought tons of clothes at Old Navy, including this shirt in several colors:
http://www.oldnavy.com/browse/product.do?cid=5441&pid=385306
Got a skirt, a sweater and a denim blazer too.

Bought a bunch of critter stuff including food for the cats, toys for the dogs, some treats and 3 new stuffies for Earle.

Bought some base layer clothes as Helly Hansen. I love that stuff! Up here, it is impossible to have too much winter gear! Plus the t-shirts came stuffed in a water bottle!

I also bought beads, a truly insane amount of beads. I won't post how much I spent on those and I haven't even mentioned the cost to Stuart! My hands will be busy all winter making jewellery. I need to sell some stuff to justify the amount I spent!

My Mom bought me a pair of Crocs. Can't get them up here. And my Dad gave me some cash which came with instructions that it was not to spent on the critters. Since Stuart hasn't been hunting yet and we are almost out of meat, I spent Dad's money stocking the freezer. That was fun! It's always more fun when you don't have to worry about the cost! :p

I only get to go shopping once a year or so when I go visit my family so I take full advantage and save up for months beforehand!

I almost bought that same collar for Niņo this weekend, BUT I just ordered a BlockyDogs (http:www.blockydogs.com) Collar for Niņo! I need to cash my checks so I can pay my mom so she can use her paypal. As soon as she pays, they'll start making it. It's 1.5" black DualGrip with lilac stripe, reflective blue stripe in the middle part where the D ring is, and Lime green embroidering with Niņo's name in a font called istanbul. Other than that I bought a teal 512mb USB thing for school and this creepy folder with a brindle pit bull with a bunny's head! :eek:

Same here.... If the clothing was not worn at all it'd be a lil better for me as it'd feel werid wearing old worn clothing... and the size thing below!

I'm so many different sizes for example- In abercrombie (the kid's 1)

graphic shirts XL
Cami- L
Sweatshirt- Don't fit in to
skirt- 14...
Polo L
Button up shirts L

I'm different sizes in every store.. every different kid of clothing. I only clothing I have ever brought through ebay was my UGG boots (which were brand new)and they were a terrific price and I knew the size would fit. But I don't buy cloths online in case they don't fit....

Recent purchases??? Hmmmmm, let's see...cat food, cat litter, human food, gas for my car. I don't have the kind of money you do Kay to splurge on stuff like that, sorry. I guess it's alot more difficult to splurge when you live alone and have the responsibilities of rent, car payments etc., as opposed to living at home rent free with Daddy and being able to buy extravagant things. Must be nice.

EXCUSE ME!?!

I work a full time job, I pay rent, I pay for vet bills, dog food, dog toys, dog accesories, my food, my clothes, my shoes, and my wants/needs/etc. I live at home with daddy AND mommy, but that does not mean I don't pay for my own things.

I do not see my paycheck - it goes directly to my parents. They take out whatever they need and then I get whatever's left.

You don't know me lady so do NOT talk to me like that. Not only is it incredibly rude and uncalled for but I have no clue why you are pulling that out of your ass. I suppose this attitude from you doesn't surprise me, though. Typical.

I haven't been able to buy anything for myself besides food lately. I spent $257 for Luka and Mandy to get treated by a homeopathic vet, and Nova and Buck are next. I've also bought around $200 in food for them. That pretty much drains me.

I did return something to Bealls and got the money back on a gift card, so I guess I can go find something nice for myself there. :)

By the way, Kay, they sell flippys at Walmart for $3 or $4 I think. I bought mine from there because the ones at Petsmart are so expensive.

And Simba looks great in that collar ;)

Wow, Donna. That was completely uncalled for. Your intention may have been to sound like a responsible adult, but all you came across was bitter.

My recent purchases? Mostly diapers, baby food, formula and bills. But I guess I handle my money well enough that I also managed to get a new outfit to wear to my 10 year high school reunion this Saturday. (10 years? :eek: ) I also plan on getting some hair dye at Target tomorrow so everyone there can recognize me (I'm blond right now, naturally a dark brown).

Thanks Sarah - Yep, Ki has about 4 flippys from Wal-Mart. This is one I've been wanting to get her for a while. It's a lot more durable and will last longer for sure.

I was so excited that I finally bought something nice for myself (the purse), sorry someone had to be a kill-joy. I usually go shopping and end up putting half of my cart back by the time I got to check out. However, this is one thing my cousin wouldn't let me put back and I actually bought it. Everything else I had picked out was for the dogs or someone else. :rolleyes:

.sarah
08-30-2006, 02:26 PM
That makes sense, Ki seems to use her flippys a lot more than my dogs do ;) Mine just fetch them from the pool, otherwise they could care less about them.

I do the same thing at stores. I don't hesitate to buy things for my dogs when I know they'll enjoy them but I always hesitate for myself. I always worry that I won't get my money's worth, and then I think about how long I had to work in order to be able to afford it, and I end up putting it back :p I especially do that with clothes.

I am buying some things. Too bad they are all for others, things I NEED, or for an unfortunate event. :(

Yesterday I spent $100 in vet bills for Nanook.

Tonight I am getting a new to me (used) freezer, although it is not for me per say, it's to store the dog's food in. It's a smaller one, not exactly sure but it is about 4 cubic feet I guess. It's only $35 but I'm going to see if I can get it for $25 as it is not self defrost and they have to have it out of there by tonight and I am the ONLY person who is interested in it. As long as it works I'm getting it.
In a way this has already paid for itself because of all the free meat I have gotten in the past & will continue to get in the future.

I am also pitching in some money for some flowers for my grandmother, who has advanced alzheimers. The doctors gave her about a week left to live, this was 2 days ago. :(

I just spent $85 today on new front brakes & rotors for my car as well as some stabalizer thing for one of my front tires. The pads are under warranty so when I return the ones that are on my car I will use that money for the back brakes.

Next week or the week after I'm getting 2 new back tires for my car.

My van is up for sale :( once it sells I am splurging, I am getting myself a hair trim and a new pair of sneakers. Haven't had either in a year or more. :eek: I am also going to get my sewing machine repaired. The rest of the money is going to bills, food, vet bills and house repairs.

I'm sorry Donna, but I agree with the others. I can NOT afford anything extra either yet I kept my mouth shut because of 2 reasons. #1Other peoples lives are just that, none of my business, and I am not going to just assume things either. And #2, this is a fun thread.

Lol, Sarah, we have the same mindset when shopping. And generally I refuse to buy it unless it's on sale. If it doesn't have clearance, reduced, etc. on it it's generally not in my cart. ;)

Today I am buying a tile cleaning machine for my grandmother for her birthday. It's around $160 but myself, my cousin, and my parents are splitting the price between us.

Sue, I'm so sorry about your recent happenings. {{HUGS}} to you and your family.

Well by the time I've paid tuition, fees, supplies (and I don't even have them all yet), and a book that was about $2000. Not exactly what I wanted to spend my money on, but that was the most recent. Today I bought b/w film and paper, matt board, x-acto knife, sketchbook and some film negative sleeves, exciting huh? ;)

Next week I get to spend $500 to get my car fixed, woohoo.

I can't afford it but I'd really like to get a force dryer (for dogs). Nebo really loves swimming now and when he swims he gets hot spots because I can't dry him off well enough with a towel. So I'd like to get one of those like we have at work to keep at home for that purpose, plus I can blow out his coat more often and help with shedding. But the one I want is $267. :(

I love seeing other people who splurge.

Yes buying off e bay can be tricky. I spend more on clothes that dont fit me, than the ones that do. BUT I dont have an Abercrombie and Fitch store here, so I have to shop online to get them. And most of them are actually more expensive than buying from the store, but it is cheaper than driving 3+ hours to get to the closest store. :)

I usually DO NOT buy any used clothes(most are new with tags), but some are gently used. And I have only had a few people send me old clothes that are not just as nice as new. Then you leave bad feedback:)

Lets see more of what everyone is buying. I am actually looking at the threads and marking what I want next:D

Well, this has been an interesting thread to read! First, because of the content of the conversation . . . second, because I LOVE TO SHOP!

Sure I have TONS of bills . . . I'll be paying hospital bills forever, and then the mortgage, car payment, groceries, vet bills, CAT FOOD! etc . . . but then you have to live a little.

I love ebay! My recent purchases have been:
black enamelware coffee & sugar canisters
and this - Punched Metal Star (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=003&item=130008590763&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1)

I just redid my bathroom, so I've recently bought new rugs, new white eyelet shower curtain, new window curtains, new faux wood blinds, paint & a wall hanging to go on the wall and some other little decorations. (I don't even want to think about how much money I spent on that redo)

Big spends? Back in May, I bought myself my birthstone ring, something I have always wanted, and think that I deserve. It's probably a 3 carat, emerald cut aquamarine stone in the center with a blue topaz stone on either size (also emerald cut) . . . definitely a splurge :)

Oh, I forgot to add . . . yesterday at Walmart, I bought a new curling iron, LOL (mine was fried!) . . . a new Spinbrush toothbrush & some new headbands that give me a migraine . . . and I bought some stuff for the house, you know, non-fun stuff that has to be bought, LOL. :D

I forgot one of my most recent and exciting purchases. Maybe I should first say that I work, and pay rent, car insurance, student loans, utitilies, groceries, pet supplies... just so that no one accuses me of having it easy.

I bought plane tickets for Alexa and I to go to Vegas :) We are going at the end of October to meet my sister for her 30th birthday :D .

So I'll have to go shopping soon, maybe pick up a new polo or two at Abercrombie.

Here's what I bought today:
For some of the pets:
5 cans of Pro Plan dog food(they were on sale)
12 large crickets
1 tub of mealworms
a box of Blue Dog Bakery molasses and peanut butter dog biscuits
a package of beef dog training treats

For the kids back to school supplies:
Watercolors
6 pink pearl erasers

And for myself I bought an electric pencil sharpener, so I don't have to sharpen 60 pencils with a manual sharpener. It was absolutely worth the $15.00. :p

I hope you have a great trip, Laura. Scott and I have been to Vegas only once, but that's where we got engaged!!! :) It is so fun to visit and we would love to go back sometime.

We had a terrific trip to New York City at the end of July/early August. We were lucky to have enough frequent flyer miles to get our plane trip free and my dear husband has been so loyal to Hampton Inns that we had enough Hilton Honors points to have 4 nights at the Waldorf Astoria, free, as well. So we splurged on the "fun" part of our trip. That included a Broadway play, Wicked, and many other neat things and great meals. Since then, other than the normal bills, we replaced my daughter's ceiling fan, which literally was falling out of her ceiling and have paid up at the vet! :eek:

Kay, I meant to say to you that I think you are being very responsible and I am certainly not questioning how you spend your money! I see that the offensive post has been removed, but it is sad that it got to that point.

I like this thread, actually. It is fun to see how the rest of your splurge, or don't splurge. I have a new driver in my house, so things have changed a bit around here! :eek:

This was my last purchase. I got it on ebay about a week ago (diecast replica of the truck Tony Stewart drove in 2003)

http://i21.ebayimg.com/03/i/07/c4/4d/ce_1_b.JPGAmy - At first I thought maybe you got it as a surprise for the families other race fan...Jasmine! :D Saw her in her cute little outfit on another thread, what a cutie-pie!

Earlier this summer was my first really really big (and long overdue) purchase in a long time -- an I-Mac computer and the Adobe Creative Suite software. I'm loving it! No more crashes in the middle of a project...no more "running low on disk space" messages, and not one "do not have enough free space to save file". (I do illustrations) It's heavenly!
Since I also work in a clothing store, I buy way way way too much clothing, but the new things are so cute, and I get such good deals... :rolleyes: (most recent- 2 vests and a variety of t's.)
For the rest of this year I will sending most of my "spare" money to my son at Ohio State. Study hard, kid.

I'd be interested in hearing it!! :D It has to be a good story...

For fun things, I usually buy pet stuff or trips!

Labor day weekend I'm taking Amtrak back to Iowa for my grandpa's 80th birthday bash. Evidently it's going to be big- I know at least my whole family will be there, even all the out-of-state people. This last weekend (Tues/Wed for me) Eric and I rented a cabin in the rockies with the pups. It was relaxing. :)

I'm so jealous! I really want to see Wicked, Alexa was able to see it a while ago when she was in NY with her family. It is coming to Phoenix next month, but tickets sold out the same day they went on sale! I guess I'll have to wait until the next time it tours. We saw the Lion King two weeks ago and I loved it, we were also able to see Avenue Q when we were in London.

I can say I am "obsessed" with "Wicked". It was wonderful. My husband agrees. I am having the poster we bought (which I protected all the way home) framed. Will hang it in a place of honor. Scott downloaded the soundtrack for me, too, so I can listen to the music. It really was fun. I have seen Broadway plays, the travelling ones, here in Greenville, but this was the real thing! And we loved it. We also paid dearly for it, but it was worth it.

My newest purchase was a van. YAY! you got your car! er..van:) lol

If the clothing was not worn at all it'd be a lil better for me as it'd feel werid wearing old worn clothing... and the size thing below!
Actually most things are brand new with the tags still attached. And they usually have the measurments listed with the description.;)

pretty sure that these plugs were the last fun thing I bought for myself Wow those are awsome! What size are you?

Recent purchases??? Hmmmmm, let's see...cat food, cat litter, human food, gas for my car. I don't have the kind of money you do Kay to splurge on stuff like that, sorry. I guess it's alot more difficult to splurge when you live alone and have the responsibilities of rent, car payments etc., as opposed to living at home rent free with Daddy and being able to buy extravagant things. Must be nice Wow that was very rude. And I dont know if its just me but it seems you lash out alot to the younger members on pt as soon as they do or say the slightest thing wrong..I'm not trying to start anything I'm just stating my opinion.

I am also pitching in some money for some flowers for my grandmother, who has advanced alzheimers. The doctors gave her about a week left to live, this was 2 days ago. http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/frown.gif
I'm so sorry to hear that:(

It's kinda funny.. when I go shopping for dog food, I throw anything in the basket without looking at the price first. But when it comes to buying things for myself, I'll go back and forth for a while before deciding on whether or not I should splurge and spend $5 on something. :p

I have stopped buying frozen food and junk snacks so we go through food a lot faster since I buy only fresh food. I tend to do that myself and it does save me from some unnecessary purchases. Sometimes my husband will just say, *Get it for Pete's sake!*

I rarely shop for clothing as I need to get rid of some of what I have, but today, I bought a pair of burgundy jeans and a blouse at Kohl's. This week I bought groceries, 20 pounds of Nutro cat food and about 60 pounds of cat litter. I also treated myself and bought 2 white t-shirts, a pair of brown capris, a pair of fuzzy sock, a pair of slippers all on clearance at Target for a grand total of $24.

Last week we did some home improvements and bought new light fixtures for the dining room and two bathrooms. We've been planning to do it for 3 years and finally found the lights we wanted. On top of that I went back in to Lowes where I got the lights and they had marked the dining room light down $20 and they refunded the difference - Woo Hoo!!!!

Next big purchase is a new entry door with glass so we can lighten up the foyer a bit.

Other than groceries to prepare some special meals for my family, we did a trip to Home Depot, on Sunday. We bought Portland Cement, Sand and some tools to try to make some garden crafts, Hypertufa, and concrete birdbaths. I know that sounds pretty boring to some, but it was something Scott and I had been wanting to try for a long time. We did it yesterday, so we'll see what happens!

Wellllllllll, we drove 2 hours to the mall today and I got LOTS of goodies!! I bought some baby clothes (warm onesies and socks) from LL Bean; $125 on maternity clothes (a skirt, 2 sweaters, and 5 long sleeve/turtle necks) from Motherhood Maternity; lunch at Bugaboos; some paint-stain to finish a window in our kitchen along with brush, sander etc.; and a children's book that made me get all teary in the middle of the mall (these pregnancy hormones :o :o )

We also shopped for baby furniture but didn't buy anything yet. But I really like the quality and choices from Babies-r-us, so I am pretty positive that is where we will buy them when the time is right.

So it was a lonnnnng day (we left at 8:00 and got home at 6:45) and I am totally exhausted and thirsty.

I now have 3 but am already wanting more, even tho I am still sore from this last one! My first tattoo took 45 minutes, my second took 2 hours and this last one took 2 hours and 45 minutes! I also really like that it has a radio on it. The gym I go to has televisions set up with different channels connected to a radio station. I have a feeling that 30 minutes on a treadmill will go by much quicker when I'm actually able to listen to the television :D

I spent forever trying to find that color, for some reason most websites charged more money for the green then the blue or white one. It made no sense to me since it was the exact same product only in a different color! I finally found it at a good price, I also wanted that color because Alexa's is blue and I want us to be able to tell them apart.

We bought a used washer & dryer, so no more going to the laundromat!! They clutter up the kitchen a little bit (they both didn't fit in the closet with the hook-ups) but it's still better than having to spend $20/week on laundry! :)

Yesterday was a good purchase day :) Alexa and I bought a new television set because ours didn't work very well. All of our channels came in fuzzy, but now with the new television all of our channels come in so clear :)

This is the tv that we bought, it's 27".

Then later in the evening we were bored so I decided to go to the thrift store, I found a brand new unopended 5th season Gilmore Girls DVD set! I've been wanting it for a while but couldn't afford it, I bought it at the thrift store for only $14!

We spent the rest of the evening watching my new DVDs on our new television.

I don't spend a lot of money on myself really. any spare cash i have goes toward something for the dogs.

I just ordered and received one of these for Raven: http://pamperedpoochcollarcovers.com/pet_blinkers.htm

I chose jade and pink. It is so cool! I can't remember how I stumbled on the site, I was looking for something else and ran across it. Raven is black and when I take her out at night I can't see her well, I also like to go for walks at night and this way cars that go by can see her too :). Even in the house I don't keep a lot of lights on all the time so when I'm walking into the kitchen or down the hall I know if she's almost under my feet or not.

I also got Raven a pretty new pink collar and leash yesterday and some clearance Christmas toys :)

The other day, I spent more money at one time than I ever have in my life! :eek: I went down to Babies-r-us (2+ hours from here) and got soooo much stuff including:

* travel system (stroller/carseat)
* bassinette
* crib sheets
* diaper pail and refills
* bottles,etc.
* baby clothes
* a bedding set
* changing table mat and covers
* baby towels
* and a whole lotta other stuff!!

Babies are expensive (especially when you don't have a baby shower)!!! :eek:

I think that is the site that has the t-shirt of the Batmobile with a flat tire. My husband loves that one. They have some really funny shirts. I like yours too.

Thanks to ESS (Emergency Social Services), we managed to buy a bunch of clothing and food. After the apartment fire, we weren't allowed to live there anymore. We weren't allowed inside the apartment for a week, so we got some money for clothes, food and incidentals.

All of this was given to the 100+ people that were left homeless. The more people in your family, the more you get.

$800.00 for Zellers - I spent this on clothing.
$400.00 for Safeway - This was used for incidentals and food.
$350.00 from a trust fund - This went towards rent.
$200.00 Gift Card for Superstore - For food and diapers.
$300.00 from the manager of the apartment that burned - Also went towards rent.

Without the ESS, we wouldn't have been able to move to a new apartment. They paid for our food, clothing, toiletries and diapers.

I feel extremely awful for spending that money, since I didn't work for it. :o

I finally found large dog clippers that were not so wide on the inside cut. They are like the guilatine ones made for smaller dogs- but big enough for a very large nail. The first attachement are the ones I had- and its problematic as there is a wide blade adding pressure on the back of the nail- making short cuts hard. I had been taking them to the groomers or the vet that uses a medical clipper to keep especially the show dogs nails short. Now I have a better set for my own!
I am not really a shopper so I am not sure how long this bigger set has been out- but it sure does give a great cut- closer to were I need to go without the pressure on the nail. Borzois have tall nails- and thick.
Old set http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod_Display.cfm?pcatid=334&N=2001+113909 ( the orange ones), and here is the new set http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod_Display.cfm?pcatid=790&N=2001+113909 ( the green set)..
And since it does go THUNK in noise- even Hottie tolerates it.. lol..

I just received a few GSD knick knacks I bought off ebay, wanted something that looked a bit like Layla. One of them is pewter, so with no color it looks just like her...Then there's the Fenton Art Glass cat I just ordered from QVC. I've been waiting for just the right cat. ;) ...And of course another order to Foster and Smith for rawhide bones, retriever rolls and some yougart drops. :)
