Some of you might remember the threads I made about my cousin's dogs, Cheddar and Rolley. Cheddar passed away a little over a year ago, and sadly Rolley had to be put to sleep a couple months ago.

My cousin just moved back to IL from Portland, Oregon this summer. I beleive this was the first time he had been dogless for a long time. (He had Cheddar for 12 or 13 years, and adopted Rolley quite a few years ago) He must have really been missing having a dog around. He was going to wait until he had his own place before bringing a dog home, but he found a golden mix puppy up for adoption at the rescue he is volunteering at and fell in love!

I knew he was bringing the puppy home today, but my mom didn't tell me that we were going to get a surprise visit!

So, I'd like to introduce everyone to Sassy!

My mom had a little gift wrapped up for her, and she went and opened it herself. She grabbed the chewy from it and ran off to go play with it.

I asked my cousin if he was really sure he wanted a puppy and I told him many times I would gladly take Sassy if he ever changed his mind!

Hope you enjoyed the pictures!

What a blessed puppy and great pics too. My best ever dog was a golden/lab mix named Sam and she was the dog of all dogs. She was very friendly yet protective and she adored my 2 children and nobody but myself or my husband could ever touch them. When my son was born, my brother came for a visit and we were all sitting outside and he jumped out of his car and started to run towards the baby to see him and he had to jump back though his car window until I let Sam know that all was OK.
Tell your cousin congrats and I too can't imagine life without
my furchildren.

Wow, Sam sounds like a great dog! My cousin's dog Cheddar was a golden/lab cross.

When my cousin was trying to think of a name, one of the names I suggested was Sammie. :) (He wound up keeping the name Sassy, though)

My mom talked to my cousin this morning or last night, Sassy has settled in pretty well and is doing great! I'm not sure if the plans are definate, but on Sunday we might go up to Silver Lake and bring the dogs. Hopefully Snowy will like her new cousin!

I'm a little worried about how Snowy will react, though. When she was just a puppy she was attacked by a bigger dog at the dog park, and since then she as been terrified of them. If a dog jumps on her or gets into her space she does snap occasionally. Does anyone have any tips on what to do? There has only been one large dog she has ever gotten along with, but even just a month ago the other dog got too close and Snowy snapped at her. If Snowy shows any aggresion towards Sassy we will definatley keep them apart, it isn't worth any of the dogs getting hurt. (Although Snowy has never bitten another dog when she is scared, I'm worried that it could happen with Sassy being a playful puppy and all)

Take it slowly, keep both Sassy and Snowy on leashes at first, and have them meet, say, out in the yard. Because the pup is so little yet, Snowy may be fine with her.

Thanks Karen. I'm hoping if they meet at the lake it would serve as neutral ground for them so then neither one of them is protective over it. Even if their first meeting is only 10 minutes or so, as long as it ends on good terms I'll be happy. :)

Ok, instead of starting a new thread I thought I'd just give everyone a little update on here.

First off, there has been a name change! My cousin decided that Sassy did not fit her personality at all, so for now she is being called Sandy. She spent the day at a beach in Michigan yesterday and loved digging in all the sand, so he though it was an apropriate name. ;) It's not official yet, so we'll see what happens!

The introduction went great. Snowy behaved herself and Sandy was really good, too. A little bit too playful for Snowy, but Snowy was very good and just walked away when Sandy started to get too rough. We wound up going hiking in the woods instead of to the lake and both dogs had a great time.

Sorry, but no pictures! I forgot the camera in the car during the hike. :o
