For anyone looking for a new friend, the Toronto Humane Society is the "Open Your Heart Adopt-a-thon" -- runs from today (friday) until Sunday, August 20. Adoption fees have been waived, and adoption includes:

- vaccinations to date
- six weeks of PetCare insurance
- a microchip identification implant
- discount coupon for Royal Canin Inc. puppy/dog food or cat/kitten food
- pet care information booklet
- unconditional love

This is because of a rescue that took place on Wednesday of 133 different critters (dogs, cats, bunnies, birds, reptiles, etc.) from an abandoned Pet Store, which means they need to make room at the shelter for all these animals. Animals already at the shelter are up for adoption, however, these ones are not yet ready for homes.

You can read more about the details here :

Note: Sorry about the duplicate post to the one in the Pets General, but its a really short running adopta-thon, so trying to get the word out :)

The "fee free" adoption makes me nervous. I know how badly these HS want to find homes for these poor pets, but fee free is looking for trouble. Anyone can come in and adopt a pet. Who KNOWS what lurks out there. :(

Hopefully as long as they're still screening the potential adopters lots of animals will find loving furever homes.
