Hey everyone...I've been a bit absent lately because well...I'm puppy-sitting hehe. I wish I could say he was mine! He's my sister's dog. She lives in an apartment so I'm keeping him until their house is built. I didn't want her to get a dog because personally I don't think she is resonsible enough, she has a young child, and I swear she and her husband hate Reggie and Smokey. But well...she did. I also told her not to get one from a pet store...which guess where he came from? And his breeder is from Missouri...and I swear that I read that the majority of puppymills are located there, could be wrong. :( But he seems healthy, so far, I just wish that she wasn't donating $300 to a puppymill...if he's from one.

Anyway, he is just adorable! He was born in March, and he is a west highland terrier, or westie. I was surprised how good Reggie and Smokey are getting along w/ him! He likes to pounce and attack the old boys, and they put up w/ it...sometimes even play back. Although occassionally Reggie barks at him and gives the little whipper snapper a "good talkin' to." lol. He's half parrot and loves to climb clear up your shoulder onto you back. ;D

I think I have him almost trained to sit already, he's quite smart. But there's a problem w/ the pottty training. He does not like to go outside, he actually *prefers* to go in his box or kennel. He held it almost all day once b/c I had him outside playing. The second we put him in his box he pees. I think he was trained to do that at the pet store. We tried putting a box w/ no bottom out on the grass and he'll usually go in that. It's the only way he'll go outside. Any ideas?? I've never trained a puppy before. I was too young w/ smokey and I was young when we got Reggie too...plus my sister mauled him to death and I never got to see him.

Ok well I'll send pics now. He is such a sweetheart! I'm gonna miss him (and I really think the old boys will too). At least I will see him sometimes...I just hope my sister still thinks he is cute when he's full-grown! Or he's definitely MINE! lol

Gee that looks like Sadie who lives behind us and torments our dogs when they go outside!!! It's really hilarious to watch because she hunkers down in the grass just far enough away that our dogs go nuts!! lol She is just adorable. At least she has an aunt that will take her if her mommy doesn't want her anymore!!

McKinney is a doll and I just love that name! My brother has a female Westie named Millie but I don't have any pics to share.

I don't think I would worry too much about the potty training just yet. McKinney is still only a wee little one so he has some learning to do and it won't happen overnight. :) I have always wondered about those poor dogs in the mall who sit all day in the cages with the wire bottoms. Of course they have to go potty in the cages since there is no other option for them. :( How do they learn NOT to eliminate in their crate when they go to their forever home and their new 'person' tries to crate train them? It must be so hard. I don't even want to dwell on those poor sweeties, but yet when I am in the mall I am compelled to go visit them. It leaves me with a very sad feeling when I walk away.

I am sure McKinney is going to be a terrific little guy for your sister (that is if you ever give him back! ;) ) His behavior is a little odd, but I'm sure that in time with lots of love and coaching he'll do just fine! Thanks for sharing him with us!

Ahhhh! Amy, I wouldn't want to give him back either! He's such a cutie pie! Oh how I would love to have a little dog that wanted to climb on my shoulder, can't do that with mine, they would squish me!

McKinny is so cute.. I still can't believe your sister would just buy a puppy while she is in an apartment that DOES not allow any dogs.. and her house isn't even completely built! How stupid. How's the little guy doin' now? :) Pet him for me, eh? Anna and Rosie says hi to him ;) - Rachel

Hey Amy<~~ My name's Amy Too!!! Anyways, My parents have a westie and I am absolutely in love with him. His name is Richie. He's such a wonderful dog. Westies are a wonderful breed- they are a bit mischievous, as well with any puppy. I hope your sister enjoys her new westie!
Here's a picture of Richie:

Pam expressed my feelings perfectly. Those poor pups have no option but to go potty in their cages!:( Sweet little McKinny doesn't know any better yet, but will in time, I'm sure! What a cutie pie!!! We know that you'll be keeping an eye out for him. And what good pals he'll have in Smokey and Reggie!!

Thanks everyone! Richie is cute!! How much does he weigh do you think? I'm just wondering how big this little guy will get. I've seen adult westies a few times, but it's been a while.

Lol right now he's asleep down in the kitchen. He's been attacking the dogs all day. Reggie and Smokey don't mind him most of the time. He likes to follow them around in the yard, pretending he's a big doggy and sniffing around. Smokey even started playing with him earlier, well at least trying to chew on his toy. And Reggie was laying by him a lot last night. But this morning he was REALLY hyper, was running in circles all over the family room. He was playing and biting his toy, and he bit me a few times, and it kind of hurt. I knew he was just playing, but he ran up to Smokey and bit his back leg, Smokey yelped...Reggie comes roaring out of nowhere and goes after him. That one gave me a scare. So I must keep them separated if he's really hyper or something, because Reggie just doesn't know how to deal with a wiggly little bitey thing.

He's so smart, he already knows how to sit and I taught him to lay in about 10 minutes. He still needs a bit of practice to get it all down though. He doesn't like any of the doggy treats we have, even those bacon things. The only treat he will eat is lunch meat lol. Anyway, here's some more pics! Sorry hmm I'm a little camera happy....I probably have over 100 pics of him so far, I'll try not to post them all lol.

Awwww........he reminds me so much of my Richie when he was a baby. Richie weighs around 25 pounds, but he's over-weight! Adult westies range from 18-22 lbs. Richie was soooo hard to poty train. It took my parents 6 months, but Opie, their yorkie, caught on to potty training quicker. Hang in there with McKinny! Thanks for the pictures, theyre grrrrrrrrreat!

It's pretty late. I put the pup to bed, after he had eaten, done his duties, played, etc. I came upstairs and he's barking his head off. So I went down and got the little spoiled brat and had him on my lap. He was instantly tired and tried various positions to sleep. Suddenly he jumps out of my arms and crawls onto the keyboard. Apparently it's more comfortable then my lap...he fell asleep the second he put his head down LOL. Thought this pic was cute (ignore the messy desk...and by the way, I was chatting w/ Rachel (Countrywolf07) in the pic )

O my gosh! I saved that last shot of the pup sleeping on the keyboard. It is now my background for my monitor at home. How sweet.

I can see the potty problem. I bet if you reward that little monkey for "going" outside, with a little treat, he'll get the message. It may take awhile.

We had Scotties when I was a kid, and boy were they difficult to house break. Don't know why, but they were. Once they figured it out, they were fine, but it took up to a YEAR for them to become totally trained to go outside. We did have them trained to a paper by the door, but that grew old quickly too.

Keep us informed about the puppy!

Thanks again for the GREAT pictures!!!
