Wow, today was such a long day, but it was so much fun! I was in the schooling show @ the stables where I ride Garth. I rode in two classes, one jumping and one flat class.

I got to the stables at about 9:00 this morning so I could tack up and warm Garth up. To my surprise, his owner was there! I wasn't sure if she was coming or not, but I was happy to see her. She loves Garth so much and she is so good to him.

In our jumping class we took 2nd place. I'll try to post the video of us jumping later. I couldn't get him to canter at the begining, so the judge took off points for that. We did even better in our flat class; we got 1st place! I was a little nervous about that since Garth sometimes chases other horses or takes off while cantering, but he was perfect! (I think partially because his other leaser rode him in a different show yesterday and he was tired out from that, but hey, whatever works! :p )

Sorry there aren't any riding pictures, my mom said she just wanted to watch. I think his owner took some riding pictures, so hopefuly she'll e-mail those to me.

Hehe, he was trying to eat the ribbons!

I'll try to post the video later and if his owner sends me anymore pictures I'll post those as well!

Sorry for rambling on even more, but I just wanted to add that I am hoping to lease Garth for more than just this summer! The barn manager came up to me today and told me I should really think about leasing him long term. (I'm just filling in for his other leaser over the summer because his owner broke her leg) I told the BM that his other leaser might still be planning on coming back, but she told me I shouldn't worry about it, there are other horses that she leases, too. I'm hoping to make show team eventually, so I really, really want to continue leasing him! My mom is worried that it will be too much with school and everything next year (I got into all honors classes :/ ) Hopefully this will work out... He is such a sweet horse and is an amazing jumper (he loves to jump, can't go too high but never refuses) and I think I could learn a lot from him...

Many many moons ago I barrel raced and I have to admit a sorrel Quarter is my all time fave! He is beautiful and so are you! Many good years in the saddle with him. You look so relaxed and it shows in him thats a rare combo! I wish you well in your horsemanship.

Thanks everyone! :)

My mom was talking to someone else at the stables about show team, and some of the show fees are really, really pricey. So if I ever get on it I told my mom I wouldn't go to every show. My mom sometimes jokes that I had to pick one of the most expensive sports, and I sometimes feel bad that my parents pay so much for me to continue horseback riding. Next year I'm hopefully going to get a job at the stables over the summer as a camp counselor and I told my mom I wouldn't mind helping out with some of the costs. (I'm saving up to buy my own horse, but the boarding fees are so expensive!)

Dr. Goodnow - Thank you! Quarter Horses are one of my favorite breeds, and Garth is certaintly beautiful one! (Of course, I am a little biased :p )

You look great! We need to meet some time, perhaps at a horse show? Or the Lake County Fair? I'll be their all day tomorrow showing my calf and then saturday watching her.

Thanks!

I'm still trying to figure out how to get the video on the computer. Hopefully I can get it to work soon!

Yes, definatley! You don't ride at Wedgewood anymore, do you? Because it would have been easy to meet you up there. I know I'm busy this weekend and most of the next week or so, though. (Going on vacation soon) Good luck at the fair!

Thanks, this is the open show, all the big farms will be entered. I'm exited because a lot of times people have two cows that win and they need someone to show the other cow. I did that for a one month old Dutch Belted heifer, she was adorable!
No, I don't ride at Wedgewood right now. I don't have my drivers license yet and my parents couldn't drive me all the way up there, and the girl who I gave $5 to take me often could only go twice a month. Plus, Kristine was kind of confusing and she didn't realize how little formal training I'd had. I'm at Daybreak in Libertyville for the time being. Ariel is an amazing instructor but the very cheapest board there is $600 and I just can't do that. I think next spring I'm going to go back to Wedgewood and try to get Donna to teach me and perhaps shareboard one of her horses for the summer.

Yikes, $600! Wow.

I have a friend that rides at Wedgewood, Audrina. She owns Sweet Cheeks and Sneakers. I rode the old Wedgewood when I was 7. How long did you ride there for?

Since I was 11 until I was 15, so 4 years. I thought Audrina was trying to sell Sweet Cheeks? Is Sneakers the paint pony?

Sweet Cheeks is on a lease to Paige for a year or something.

Sneakers is her new pony, but he isn't a paint. :)
