This beautiful girl was yet another throw away cat, struggling to survive next to a VERY busy highway. The people in the neighborhood fed her, but didn't care that she had already had 3-4 litters of kittens, many of which were smashed on the highway. They had named her "Monster" due to the fact that she had one eye left. After driving and searching the area several times, I finally located her kittens, and started setting traps for them. I managed to get all 4 babies without the neighborhood having a clue, as they had fully intended to take Delilah/Monster into the vets 2 days later (and expected a rescue group to pay the bill), and then the neighbors were going to throw her back on the street. I found an access route across a small creek behind their houses, and snuck back & forth as each baby went into the traps. It was nearing midnight, and the mosquitos had about sucked me dry, when I spotted movement to my right. I flicked on the flashlight just in time to see a coyote headed toward the mewing kitten that was being used as bait for mama! It got to the point that mama was NOT going to go into the trap, so I lured her over, and started petting her while she was on top of a rotting fence, and I was balanced on a rock wall with my other foot against the shed behind me. I uprighted the trap, and got a good scruff on mama and the darn door of the trap shut not once, not twice, but 3 times until I was able to get her contained (and yes..I was covered with blood, but not letting go) and drove off into the night! Beautiful sweet Delilah had her eye enucleated when she was spayed, and is recuperating in a foster home. Her babies are being socialized in another home...without further ado...Delilah! P.S...she was from Ila Rd., and had one Eye...so the name fit purrfect!

Easy snacks for coyotes if the cars didn't kill them first :-(

What a darling she is! And, her babies are just too cute.

It's probably a good thing that neither you nor I carry dangerous weapons, right?

Bless you for doing this.

I'm with Carla, she is beautiful! The babies are adorable too.

I have a hard time reading your stories and not getting the "I want a kitten" urge. Makes me wish I could help save them all. :( Of course I'm sure we all feel that way.

Just lovely!!! It is so good to read about your newest "catches" :) Glad that pretty Delilah has had her eye taken care of. How are the skeeter bites??

Her kittens are simply beautiful. How horrid to look at them and think of them ever becoming but a snack for coyotes.

(((HUGS)))) to you Jan.
