Thankfully, my parent's didn't dress me quite so much during the winter.

haha so cute! You do NOT look happy in that first picture. Yes, my parents bundled me up so much in the winter that I couldn't even feel the snow. Remember "A Christmas Story" when the mom bundled the younger brother up so much you could barely see his eyes and he couldn't put his arms down? Yep, that was me!

I remember the snow suites... There are times I wish I had one to wear when it is winter.... Instead I have one of those one piece, insluated work suits that men wear.... It gets COLD on that river bank in the winter time.

Somewhere buried at my dad's house is a photo of me at about 18 months in a snowsuit that made my arms stand out perpendicular to my body. And I am STANDING on the couch, because I could not bend to sit down. Hilarious!!

Yes! My parents did... I have a picture of me in a snow suit way to big for me and it's white. I looked like a snowball!

My Gawd, yes! I was equally tortured. I hated the leggings most of all. Many layers that I looked like a blimp. How could I have fun in the snow when I couldn't move? Wonderful childhood, great memories, but this part sucked.

I hated the coup de grace, the long scratchy woolen scarf wound round and round and round and round my neck last of all. I couldn't bend over it enough to make a snowball and I felt strangled. It was the first thing that "accidentally" fell off while I was out in the snow.

My folks never did that to me. I just had a regular snowsuit, hat, mits & a childs scarf.. oh & boots heehe I remember running about playing, making snowballs, snowmen & snowpets.. & all the other fun stuff...

I also know what its like to walk through 4' of fluffy snow.. or as what i really did was play in it with the dog hehe.. I was swimming in it somewhere & the dog was bouncing through it & swimming in it.. oh the memories of playing in snow

LOL :D When I was about 2 years old, we went on vacation to the mountains. My parents couldn't find a snow suit of my size, so I had to use a huge one! I remember I couldn't move on it....

I'll try to find a pic ;)

Speaking of snowsuits.....yes we wore them. And one of my mother's favorite stories is that I bit my older brother while he was wearing his snow suit....left a mark too! One tough child! (and I am sure he had it coming.... :D  )

I enjoyed the snow suit stories!!!!!! As we used to say , during the 60's, these memories are a "blast from the past"

I hated having to wear those boyish corduroy pants with flannel lining underneath my dress . When the temperatures dipped well into the teens, my mother forced us to wear these elastic waist " boy cloths" !!! When I got to school, (I walked), I had to practically preform a strip tease act in front of the other kids.

One memory, however, concerns a very stormy walk to Kindergarten.

My Mother worked, so, she could not walk with me to my afternnoon Kindergarten class. She "forced" me to wear an adult raincoat!!!! It was huge!!! Oh no, I didn't have a cute little yellow rain coat like the rest of the kids, not me, I had to wear a transparent "HOT PINK" rain coat with silver snaps!!!! I cried , while running in the rain!!!!! Grasping the hem as not to trip on it!!!!! I have that same rain coat today, and, it fits me perfectly!!!!

Does anyone remember those rubber, over the shoe, boats with zippers? They usually had gray fur at the cuff. Wow, they were ugly!!!!!!!

Snow Suit??

Oh, yeah - every year! http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/rolleyes.gif

I started out in Orlando, Florida - remember Dad had a sail boat ...
He went in the Army - Mom & I went to Cleveland ... and I got a Snow Suit.

Dad came home - and got a job with J&L Steel as an Iron Ore Mining Engineer at
http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/eek.gif Star Lake, New York - where Winters were WINTER!

We lived in a "company house" - with a coal furnace at the circle end of a long,
gravel road - 100 feet behind the house was wilderness.
When it "snowed" at the Mine - it REALLY *SNOWED* at the house!
More than once we opened, and quickly closed, the first floor doors ...
then went UPstairs and left the house via a second floor WINDOW!
Then we'd shovel our way down to the back door.

New York Snow Suits were built for business ... thick and zippers everywhere!
And the "inner layers" ... flannel-lined pants, couple shirts, socks ...
and ALWAYS the "GO to the bathroom BEFORE I dress you!" reminder.
http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/rolleyes.gif

And i had all the "accessories", too! ...
* 5-buckle rubber boots (like Dad wore)
* the dorky hat with the Ear Flaps that tied together under your chin
* that darn ITCHY Scarf (I'd ditch that as soon as I got out of Mom's sight)
* and the wool MITTENS - with the STRING tying them together that ran
up one sleeve, across your back, and down the other sleeve ...

I managed to loose one of those Mitten Rigs once ... mittens had come off and my
hands were getting numb ... one mitten snagged on a bush and I didn't notice ...
kept goin ...
and pulled the other mitten UP one sleeve, across my back ...
down and out the other sleeve ... http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/rolleyes.gif

Mom went BALLISTIC!!
"HOW did you manage to loose BOTH of them!??"

Not to worry - we found em hangin on the bush a few weeks later when the snow melted.

Thanks for sharing your stories everyone. I'm glad I'm not alone in the humiliation from parents department!!!

I even had to wear my brother's old flannel shirts. Actually, that wasn't so bad. I love flannel shirts now and have a couple. They remind me of being a kid. :D

I'm sure I have a picture somewhere...... ;)

I'm born before snowsuits. But I know wearing those pants with a band under your feet, with woollen socks and with ski boots- which at that time meant that the socks went deep into the boots and there was one incerdibly cold and red and itching part of the skin where the woollen socks met icy snow :p I hated that.
BTW I also had that big fake furry hat with pom-poms- but when I had it I thought it was the latest fashion- so I was rather happy with it;)
What I hated were the hand knitted woollen hats with a pompom on top. My granny proudced them but to my opinion they were boys' hats only.

Aunt Amy, why am I so bundled up when you don't even have your coat zipped or a hat one?http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid162/p6e79c4d48b4bd7e2b26a23ba6bc6514d/f4b39063.jpg

Jasmine you are so cute!!! I feel your pain about being bundled up to your eyeballs though!

I am so jealous of those of you who had a hat with pom poms!!! I would have loved one of those!!! Here is what I got stuck with:
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d3/MOFF55/th_ourhats000_0778.jpg (http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d3/MOFF55/ourhats000_0778.jpg)
The weather didn't even have to be cold!
The fact that my brother looked like a dork too, was not much comfort!!!

WHERE DID MOM FIND THOSE HATS????

They kept appearing over the years in different colors but with the same icky brim!!! :D

Another one of my "fashion statements" was the suspenders!!!
HAVE MERCY!!!

:D Actually, I did rather like my hat with the pom-poms at the time. It was "the latest thing"! It's only with hindsight that I think of it as dodgy.

BUT ... MOFF ... that is some hat!!!

Yes, those suspenders!!! Sometimes they would end up in the toilet bowl if you un buttoned them to do your duty!!!!

I wonder what it was about our mothers and their hat fettish. Remember when you were a kid and attending a wedding? All the women wore hats!!!!! and white gloves as well.

Must be hats were a statement to them, as in, look at my little girl, she is taken care of, you can see by the HAT she is wearing.

Personally, I think you and your brother are purely adorable.

What is he holding up in the picture, it looks like a tea bag!!!

Heehee! I can't scan pictures: no scanner!

I've just been taking pictures of my pictures with my digi cam!
They aren't the best in the world but you can see them good enough to get the idea. The pictures aren't that great in the first place - really old b&w camera operated by a giggling mother most of the time!!! :D
