Jasmine finally had her baby! She had a boy, unfortunatly. There isn't much you can do with a male. She is won't sell him, because she knows he'll end up in a slaughter house, but at the same time, she can't keep him....:( She will raise him, but it's uncertain what will happen to him when he is older. I know she won't let him end up in a slaughter house though.

His name is Flash Gorden. He was born on Sunday and is a purebred Jersey.

I guess it's a little unusual for a young cow to be so calm. Most are skiddish, but he is very friendly and social. He let me pat him and everything. What a sweety! I really hope someone will take him as a pet....I would hate for him to end up as meat :(

Awww he's so adorable! I hope he ends up as a pet too.

I know this may sound a bit odd but I've heard of people teaching their cows/bulls to be rideable. There suppose to be easier to ride than horses, so a lot of people put beginners on them. You could ask her if she wants to do that.

My riding instructed started riding on a cow ;) He used a stick to tell it what way to go (like, tapping on its head or something)

However, that's not really the problem. The problem is she doesn't have room for him. He will be a very large animal sometime, and she already has 1 large cow and 5 llama's in one spot. She was hoping for a female, she had a buyer for it and everything.

What a sweet little thing!!! How can anyone look in those eyes and think of sending him onto slaughter.

I hope he finds a great home.

I remember I was visiting the Bill Wilson House in East Dorset, VT. Their goat was in labor but was having difficulty. I went into the barn and assisted the mama in delivering the baby. What an experience!!

I know. I'm glad he was born where he was, because I think some people would only think about themselves, and not the sweet baby. I honestly can't see that she will let him be killed...she said she is trying not to get attached to him, but he is so friendly, how can you not?!

When I was 15, I went to my friend's father's dairy farm in upstate New York. A baby cow was born the day before I got there. He had the same beautiful eyes that this one does. I bottle fed him and pet him while he fell asleep with his head in my lap. One day I was out in the barn when this guy came in with my friend's Dad. He was carrying a burlap bag with him. I had NO clue what was taking place. They put the calf in the bag and the guy left. I cried buckets!!! It wasn't until afterward that they told me where this precious baby was off to. I never forgot it.

How sad!! :(:( That would be heatbreaking. I know Judy would never let that happen. I know for sure we will be allowed to grow up and be spoiled rotten...if someday he will be meat, it will be humane atleast, and he will have had a great life. Judy seems a lot like me though, and I can't see how she will be able to do that to him, even if it's humane.

I love your farm pics! And Flash Gordon is just beautiful!! I'm totally in love with his eyes, they look so friendly and already full of wisdom.

It's beyond me how anyone could be able to kill creatures like this. But I'm a veggie, and it always breaks my heart when these things happen.

Hope Flash will have a long and happy life! :)

I agree, but there isn't anything she can do with him. I hear bulls often become agressive when they're older. She has no where to put an adult male cow. She can't sell him, or else he will be meat for sure only likely he will be tourchered. I don't have the heart for that sort of thing, but I guess she needs to breed the cow so she can continue getting milk from her. I'll keep you updated on what happens with him

Wow. The chicks have gotten so big. :) I loved all these new pictures.
I know very little about farming but, can the calf be neutered and used
for heavy pulling (logs & stuff) on the farm? He is so cute.
