View Full Version : Living up to my kennel name...

My kennel name is Wandering Spirits. This afternoon I brought home two more wandering souls. I meant to spend my lunch hour checking out the kayaking at a local lake, not far from my office. Instead, I picked up two husky crosses who were lounging on the side of the road...both males, both not neutered, wearing collars, but no id in sight. One is black and white and bi-eyed. The other is grey and white with brown eyes. The grey guy has a minor paw injury and is limping a bit. They are both just as sweet as sugar. They jumped right in my truck. The grey one sat in the front seat and pawed me every time I stopped touching him. The black one sat in the back and helped himself to a pig's ear Bandit didn't eat last time he came for a truck ride! They are currently residing in Pacer's pen. Pacer got moved to a different spot. They are very sweet and must be owned by someone. I hope they are anyway! I've called all the usual places to report such things--the shelter, animal control, the radio station, the vet clinics....Hopefully their owner will turn up.

I had to come back to work for the afternoon so I'll get some pictures of them tonight.

Oh those lucky boys. Little did they know when they headed out on their little adventure that they would end up at Camp Wandering Spirits. Hmm...or maybe that is where they were heading the whole time and just stopped for a rest. In any case I hope you find their home soon (although after spending some time at your place they may not want to go home). How long will you keep them if no one comes forward? Hope everything works out. Oh and give Pacer some big hugs for me when you get home for giving up his room to the visitors.

Oh, I love your signiture, and I enjoyed reading your post.

Those dogs knew that they got into the right truck when you spotted them.

I hope they belong to an owner as who is a wonderful person, just like you.

I'd consider listing them as fosters with the Humane Society, but they can stay if no one claims them. They'll be getting their little butts neutered in a hurry if they stay though! :D

LOL, Pacer hates that pen. He hates being in a pen period! He's only in there when no one is home to supervise his interactions with the big pack. He's been beaten up a couple times and neither of us feels like going through that again! Pacer is in a smaller pen right now. I'm sure he'll hate it just as much as the bigger pen and as much as he hates being in Sundin's pen or Goldie's pen or....any pen!

Well, I'll have to call them something if they stay more than a day or two! HEY YOU, just doesn't work for long! :p I bulk order tags with no names on them, just contact info and reward for return in big letters! No need to get special tags!

I left a message on Stuart's voice mail, just so he doesn't freak out if he beats me home tonight!

You have such a kind heart to pick up those boys. You are truly amazing, really. Having 23 dogs and taking in 2 more? Unbeleivable.
If nobody calls to say they've found the owner or they're his/her dogs, you could try FOUND DOGS signs.
If nobody does come... will you be keeping them and adding them to your 23? :p
I hope someone claims them though, dogs like them have got to have a home and an owner who loves them.
Good luck and keep us updated!

By the way, Phred, you are crack me up!

Not nessicarly(sp?) where she lives. Mushers just dispose of dogs like they are nothing.(err I guess thats not much different from here but..) I mean just cause they are nice looking and Huskies dosent mean they have a loving home. You did get sweet Buddy from a shelter hes adorable but didnt have a home.

Zoomer--I hope they have a nice owner out there somewhere. I know what it's like to have a furry friend "missing" and it's not fun. I wouldn't wish it on anyone. But lots of perfectly nice dogs end up homeless everywhere. Around here it's mainly husky crosses, just because that's the dominant breed in these parts. A lab or a shepherd gets adopted fast around here.

Phred...you is a funny one! Stuart is a big softie! He's brought home his share of critters too! It's not all me!!

Ok, on to the pictures....ah, maybe I"ll start new thread. I have more pictures than I first thought!

THIS One's doing just **phine**!!

That's ONE *bad habit* you've got ... starting a New Thread on the Same Subject ...

Doing that all the "old" thread gets lost in the shuffle ...

Once you START a thread, PLEASE "stick with it" ...

Ok, reposting some of the pictures here, just so Phred doesn't get too mad at me!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v38/Glacier1998/Dogs%202006/strays/looker.jpg
This little guy is a mushpot. Can't get enough attention. He would like to be a lap dog! He's very sweet. If he stays his name is Bauer.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v38/Glacier1998/Dogs%202006/strays/hasum.jpg
This one is more aloof. He's very confident, self-assure, reminds me of Muskwa actually, without the "i am the boss of the universe" stuff! He's friendly, but not as needy as his buddy. Should he stay his name is Jack. (Let's see who gets that!)

They are definately a bonded pair, very good buddies, obviously used to sleeping and eating together. They are very cute!

Yup! The show is one of my other obsessions! I told Stuart that if we ever got another pair without names(dogs tend to show up in pairs at our place), that I was naming them after Jack Bauer! He just rolled his eyes. We are doing some work with the shelter again. I want to name the next litter of puppies after 24 characters. :p

You had tremendous help in finding your own dog - and now you have been able to return the favor by taking care of two dogs that sound as though they are well loved and have been missed.

I did mention that and they apparently had tags that they have lost. Their owner assured me she would get some new ones asap. My dogs loose their tags all the time--that's why I order in bulk and without names, much cheaper! Somewhere in my yard is a huge stash of little engraved silver bones!

I also threw in a little lecture about getting them neutered, which she also agreed would be a good idea!

They were very happy to see their Mom. The little grey guy is two years old and his name is Finnegan. The black boy is six and his name is Four-By.

They were about five miles from their home. There's only one road in the area, otherwise it's all forest. They probably ran alot more than five miles!

Not sure exactly how they escaped, but it sounded like she had been near their home when they saw a squirrel and took off--huskies being huskies and taking advantage of any momentary opportunity to run!

Good job! If they were my boys, I sure would be glad to know someone found them & they were safe & sound! Can't think of a better place for those boys to "wait" to be found!

I'll pass on a little tag-secret -- Sherman kept pulling his off when he laid on the deck - they would slip between the cracks & he'd yank up so hard, they'd pop off. So JoJoe drilled each one so it has two holoes, and I sewed them flat, right onto his collar, with heavy thread. Haven't had to go "tag searching" yet!

You're truly a caring and kind person
I've heard many people speak about all the kind things they would love to do but to actually know that there's a kind and unselfish person like you actually doing it is beyond words. There are many dogs out there wandering and looking to find their way home. Many of them never do make it back. I wish I had someone like you here when my Milo was lost and wandering. God Bless you and thank you for helping a lost dog find his way home. You've really touch my heart with your act of kindness.
