This is Emma, my mother's new little dog, Rocky's little sister. Today, she's 8 weeks old (she and my Luna are sharing their birthday, April 22nd), and she arrived in her new home today.

Her arrival didn't go too smoothly, because she ran into Dino (the 7 year old male cat) as soon as she came out of the car, and she was terribly scared. She screamed in a very high-pitched voice and disappeared under the car, and Dino ran away (and hasn't been seen ever since).

After this scary adventure, Reinhold carried her into the house, where she relaxed after a couple of minutes:

She then spent some time in a private place where she had some time to calm down. The breeders gave my mother a piece of a blanket that Emma had shared with her mother and siblings. Guess that felt a bit like home.

Peggy (calico cat) showed up to greet her, but again, Emma reacted scared and screamed, and after that, Peggy prefered to remain upstairs. Emma, after a while, started playing with her new toys:

She also decided that it's fun to chew on a shoe:

Eventually she got tired and took a nap:

When she woke up, we decided that it may be time for a little walk. It was the first time she ever walked on a leash, and she did great! But she didn't pee or poop when we were outside, she did it later in the house. LOL

Being carried around by my mom:

She was allowed to eat from Rocky's bowl, which surprised me. Normally Rocky doesn't like it at all when someone approaches his food:

Encounter with "big brother" Rocky:

http://www.catmom.de/pix/emma13.jpg

He was very interested, but friendly, and didn't act jealous. Emma was a bit scared in the beginning, but not too much. We went for another short walk with the two of them, and everything went fine. Now I hope she will also become friends with the cats.

Another thing:

I noticed she has a very strong scent, sort of like an old shoe. Rocky doesn't smell like that, his fur has a fresh scent. I was surprised that an animal that young has such a strong scent, but maybe it's from the kennel she lived in when she was still with her first family (she was also allowed to be in the garden or the house, but they also spent some time in the kennel.)

Well, I will post updates on Emma and Rocky, if you're interested in their story. :)

Oh my gosh.

That is the most precious baby girl, EVER!

How as Rocky reacted to her, and her to Rocky??

*edit* Hehe, it seems I was posting as you posted your last bit. What a good boy, Rocky!

Dogs usually are a lot more tolerable of puppies than adult dogs. They don't seem them as much of a threat. ;)

Yes, I heard that, too. I also think it's easier for Rocky to tolerate a girl than a boy. He usually loves girls, but doesn't get along with all males.

Emma is beautiful! I am not even in love with rotties, but, I do love her! She's got a great face! Rocky's so handsome, I like the photo of him looking down at her. The look on her face is priceless!

Squeeeeee! I can't stop looking at the pictures long enough to type a reply. :D Oh my goodness. She is perfect. I like Rotties anyway, but look at that sweet face, that perfect nose, those cute little pads on her feetsies, the look she is giving Rocky. Oh yes, she is just perfect. It sounds like your parents are doing everything right, with the right balance of rest, play, cuddles, and walks. Lots more pictures and stories please.

Thanks for welcoming Emma! :)

I will definitely give you an update. I'm going to visit her again tomorrow, and I wonder how she will spend her first night. Maybe she will get homesick and cry for her mommy? After all, she is just a little baby.

BTW, when she arrived, she was much more scared than a kitten that you have just brought home (or maybe cats are just hiding their discomfort better).

BTW, here's a close-up of the Rocky/Emma-encounter:

Absolutely as cute as can be! And doesn't she look comfy and smug being held by her new Momma? ;) She is a beauty!

Wait until Anna_66 sees this! You'll be glad you live on a different continent, or we might have a puppynapping on our hands!

Congratulations to your mom on her absolutley adorable puppy! Could the smell you are talking about be the "Puppy breath" I have not yet had the chance to smell? People on here talk about it all the time.

Are you kidding?! I for one am very interested:D

OMG she is totally adorable and I love those big paws and soft little pads of hers (yes, I love the pads too :o).

I was just on my way out the door to work and just thought I'd take a sec...good thing I did! This has really made my day.

I have to say your parents are very lucky to have 2 such wonderful rotties in their lives!

Looking forward to growing pictures (oh and I love the one of her looking at big brother...the best picture ever!)!

She is absolutely adorable, what a sweet looking pup! Does she have a full tail? Looks like she does in a few pics. I *love* Rotties with tails :)

Kirsten

Does she have a full tail?

Yes, she has. In Germany, it is illegal now to cut their tails.

Could the smell you are talking about be the "Puppy breath"

What exactly is "puppy breath"? I noticed that her breath is sort of "biting" (and yes, I remember when friends of mine had a litter of boxer pups, their breath was sort of similar). But it is Emma's fur also. Maybe she will need a bath?

I think the smell is probably a kennel smell. What dogs kept in groups
might smell like.Giving her her first bath should take care of that.I loved
the picture of your Mom carring Emma. Better do a lot of that now, cause
in a few months you might not be able to. :D She's just a beautiful little
pup.

That could be very well, at least she's smelling like an entire dog kennel! LOL I guess a bath would be a good idea! :) On the other hand, maybe that smell gives her some comfort, so far away from her canine family now...

She's absolutely adorable. Just wait till she grows into those paws. As for the smell, I thought all puppies had that wonderful puppy smell? Perhaps a bath is in order. And that picture - looks like her larger brother is imparting some very important information to her and she's listening oh-so-intently :)

When my RB boy, Cody came home with me, his previous owner gave me a piece of welping cloth, which smelled like poop and other puppies. so he would be comfortable. Of course he still cried the 1st 2 nights, but quickly adjusted. We gave him a bath the first week as to not shock him. Puppy breath, here, indicates a "sweet and fresh" odor, not changed yet by any outside influences like food stuck in teeth, or bad oral hygiene. it just smells heavenly! Emma is precious! The photos are awesome!

I am back to look again. Ooooohhh, if I lived in Germany I would definitely steal her. Does that sweet little girl know what a big commotion she is creating on-line? :D

Hehe, I thought the same thing.

Well, actually I had planned to take more pictures of her today and post a new thread with an update, but things didn't turn out the way I've planned.

Went on a walk with my mother, Rocky and Emma, but my mother was in a bad mood and wasn't very cooperative when I wanted to take photos; she called Emma every time when I just focussed my cam on her, or she walked in front of the camera. And when I sat down to take photos, she complained that this way, the entire walk would take too long. I was so annoyed by this that I turned around and left, and I saw Emma only a couple of minutes today. :(

What I heard from my mother before was that Emma had a peaceful night without whining, probably because Rocky was with her. The cats, Dino and Peggy, have already joined them on their walks, so I'm sure they will get along sooner or later.

Well, since I'm now on bad terms with my mother, I'm not sure when I can post another update on Emma. I have ordered a new digicam last night and was actually looking forward on new photos, so I'm a bit disappointed atm.

Kirsten, some times Moms just get that way, then just as quickly they forget they were that way and are confused why you're upset  This too will pass. Don't fret, it's just just life as we know it :) ups and downs when it comes to family.

Of course I can't say that I'm not disappointed that you didn't get any new pictures, but I'm sorry to hear that you and your mother are upset with each other:( But as Laurie said, I'm sure this will pass in no time. Until then lots of {{hugs}} for you.

P.S. That great to hear your getting a new camera...I LOVE new cameras!

Well, yes, you're right, a couple of hours after our argument my mother called and acted as if nothing has happened.

Today, I was finally able to take new photos (http://petoftheday.com/talk/showthread.php?p=1529848#post1529848) of little Emma, but still with my old cam. The new one arrived today, and I'm still testing and need some more practice. LOL
