help i need a martha stewart. my dishwasher smells bad. it's normally closed, so after i removed the clean dishes yesterday i left it open for the day to air it out, and it does smell better. there is no obvious decaying food on the vents and the walls look clear. can i run vinegar and baking soda through the vents? run it empty with hot water and lots of soap? i've never had a problem before.

I use just vinegar, fill up the cups as if you were using regular detergent, and run it empty. I try to do that once a month or every other month to clean it out good, and it seems to work really well. Good luck!

Cleaning the Dishwasher and Removing Odor (http://www.mrscleannw.com/tips/clean-dishwasher.html)

Yup, I use vinegar also. The above site is one I just found that gives some other ideas - like finding the debris around the door. That is pretty gross sometimes.

martha ;)

logan, thanks for the suggestion! alex and peanut will do "lab pre-wash", but another helper is more then welcome! the washer is running with vinegar now, so i'll update later...thank you "marthas" :)

I still think our method was better than vinegar. ;)

You can buy a special product in our supermarket here that is for cleaning your dishwasher , then you can put a special nice smelling deoderiser in it as well, if you prefer these to the other methods. you really need to put them through at least once a month for hygiene purposes as well.
