i'm going with my partner to her bosses' retirement party. the man is very well to do, and every holiday party has been very, very nice, very dressy. the invite for this retirement party is cocktail casual, so what does that mean? floaty skirt, heels? maybe a chance to shop? advice please!

I picture a sleeveless black dress, no hose and strappy sandals.

Cocktail casual means NOTHING. That is such a made up term. I would go with palazzo (sic?) pants, a fitted top of some sort, and strappy sandals. OR, a flouncy skirt, fitted top....I always prefer to dress up, rather than down. Rarely does someone say, "Geez....she looked TOO nice"...where the opposite could be said.

Go shopping! :D

Here is a site with all the definitions and how one should dress. Hope this helps you out in time.
